I'm a massive fan of the Shelby GT350R, it handles very well for a muscle car and can get down to 1055KGs. It's only real downside is it doesn't get more than 600HP (mine only has 579HP, but the engines not fully broken in so we'll see.)

'69 Camaro Z/28. Love that car through and through. Sounds wicked when fully tuned and just looks awesome. :-)

Depends on what you define as a muscle car.

If you count anything with a big american engine in it from the 60's and early 70's then it's the '66 Cobra, if you're looking for a traditional 2+2 coupe...

If not then you should consider the Dodge Challenger '70 and the '69 Camaro Z/28 because both of them can be RMed (700hp+, 500hp+ respectively)

Without mods though, the GT350R is a race car.

My favorite car of all time is the '66 cobra but by no means the best to drive in the game. I do have a 600+ hp Chevelle in my garage though. Handles like a brick though.

Just because the car was made in the US doesn't mean it's a muscle car. The Mustang, for example is the very definition of Pony car, as is the Camaro. And the Ford GT, really?

Question on the Z28. Mine was great fully tuned but not race modded--600-700hp range. One I RMed it, it got lighter yes but dropped to 334hp and wasn't competitive against anything. I guess modding it from the start (without full tuning) yields better power?

RM the Z28 first & then buy your mods. Mine is close to 600 HP(just off the top of my head) & you can beat the Chapparel 2J in American Challenge with it. Great car & looks really cool with the NASCAR style steel wheels.

Corvette and Camaro.. ZR1s especially... destroy any other super car stock with the ZR1, then hooligan on it as you please... GREAT fun

I think the SVT is a Muscle car, but it's base is a pony car. If you buy the Ford GT40 race car it certainly sounds like a Muscle car!

Plymouth 'Cuda is a very good Muscle car, it's a shame that GT5 doesn't like wheelies (they're possible but need very fine tuning). That was probably the only good bit about NFS ProStreet, pulling wheelies during races!

This.

Period.

To me, and by definition, a muscle car is a 2 door small to mid-size car with a powerful V8 engine. The '64 GTO was named the first muscle car when Pontiac put one of their most powerful engines into a mid-sized Tempest. Some say that you could classify some of the earlier cars as muscle cars because they had similar configurations (big engine in mid-sized car), but the GTO is still arguably the first muscle car. Over time, the muscle car has changed its ways with technology (mostly more efficient and fuel injected), and I call them modern muscle cars, like the new Challengers, Camaros, etc... Also the new Chargers, 300s, Cadillacs, etc... are classified as modern muscle in my book even though they don't have 2 doors, but that is also something that changed over time. The 5.0L Mustang in the late 80's is what brought on what we see today as far as modern muscle. I would classify the 5.0L Mustang as the first modern muscle car, and it should be in any "Real driving simulator". A pony car can still be classified as a muscle car, because of the definition of a muscle car, so to me, the early Mustangs, Camaros, and Challengers are still muscle cars because they had the option of a powerful V8 in a small to mid-sized car.

*Edit* The Shelby/AC Cobra is more classified as a widow maker. I mean come on, a small light weight British aluminum bodied car with the most powerful engine that Ford had to offer at the time. I would call it the first Hybrid Widow Maker LOL.

The RM 69 camaro is wayyy too sexy not to own, surprisingly capable as well if you know how to use the throttle to turn it.

Hugger orange anyone?

The Old GT350R is a muscle car no doubt.

I like the Challenger RT and the Camaro Z28/SS '69.

Both can be Rm'd, both look awesome and drive pretty well for muscle cars

Not too sure that the Cobra is actually a muscle car if we're talking born and bred in the US

It was originally designed and built by British company AC.

I fell in love with the 1969 Camaro, mine is fully tuned, white and blue with no aero modifications except the rear wing.

Love the sound of the fully tuned engine.

When you RM any cars, the upgrades you already have installed are removed, but they are still in your garage. Go back into your RM Camaro's tuning garage and just re-equip them
Edit: this was meant for Socal's question, didn't realize I was on page one

Carroll Shelby is a native Texan, and grew up in the south where we do love our horsepower. His Cobra is definitely a muscle car.

Agreed,
Pony Cars by definition, slightly smaller than a intermediate/medium size car:
Camaro
Mustang
Challenger
'Cuda

Muscle cars by definition are intermediates:
Charger
Superbird
Super Bee
Chevelle
GTO
also, the 1987 GNX/Grand National is considered the last true Muscle Car in North America. But it does not stop with North America, Australia has been putting out Muscle Cars for 40 years with the Monaros and Falcons.

The Cobra, Corvette, Viper, or any other Monster Powered 2 seater is not a Muscle Car by definition, they are powerful 2 seater cars. The Murcielago SV is a Supercar, not a "sports car".... Understand?

Yes, many cars are called Muscle Car , but the true definition goes back over 45 years.

As for the question, my best racer is a well tuned Chevelle.

I'm still unclear about what makes a car a muscle car, & what would exclude a car from that category. But the antiques in the game are my favourites!! Anything pre 1990 interests me loads more than newer cars.

My favourite is the Mercury Cougar, just because it looks so funky! :D
But it's probably the least competitive among muscle car type classic cars! Even though I think it handles better than some of the other boats.

Including competitiveness, I'd vote the Cobra too, just because my bf seems to do really well with it - it's his favourite. But I agree with the other posters that indicated that it does seem to be in a different class. Which is probably why my bf likes it - as a general rule, he doesn't seem to like muscle cars at all.

I hate the Chevelle, in every possible way.

This could be debated. Many will say it was an 80's muscle car but could you really classify a car with a turbo as a muscle car? Personally I would regard a V8 as a requirement for muscle car status.
