What is the best Racing wheel to get with $ set aside?
Degree turn on wheel?
Best feel, leather ,Plastic...?
Most Realistic feel?
Accessories?
Pedals?
Anything else?
I am aiming for Thrustmaster txrw because i think it has a 900 degree turn... and seems to have a good feel. I have seen th 920 and 29 most played... thoughts on all people that own their wheel.

Best racing wheel, best feel, most realistic feel is a DD wheel but that is probably not what you are considering.

Maybe you could have a look at this thread before you decide? https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/two-new-wheels-come-from-logitech-lets-predict.388619/

Almost every wheel has a 900° rotation. I have no idea if the Thrustmaster TX is a good wheel but I had a faulty T300RS after only three months and I don't trust Thrustmaster anymore.

The DD wheels have unlimited rotation.

Accessories?

  • Buttkicker
  • Button boxes
  • Motion sim from 2 DOF's to 6 DOF's
  • Triple, beamer or a VR HMD
  • Good quality headphones

Pedals?

Get at least pedals with a load cell. @Fanatec... has good pedals. Or get a load cell brake kit. >> https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/ricmotech-sim-racing-equipment.309992/

If you want the best get high-end pedals like:

Degree turn on wheel? They are all 900 minimum these days many are 1080. DD wheels unlimited rotation subject to the fact some have a connecting cable for the rim.

Best feel, leather , plastic...? Alcantara! Plastic and rubber easier to maintain. Natural and suede-like materials are nicer but a little harder to care for.
Most Realistic feel? Very subjective but generally more $, better feel.
Accessories? Most of the big wheel manufacturers aside from Logitech have a broad ecosystem of add-ons etc.
Pedals? In terms of driving speed pedals are even more important than the wheel so don't skimp on the pedals.

Best wheel on the market... I think that depends on what you are looking for. There are some $4,000 wheel base setups out there. That $4,000 and no steering wheel, pedals, wheel stand or anything else... just a base.

I break it down into these levels

0 - $200 = Budget Wheels (They can be OK, but are filled with compromises)
$200 - $500 = Lower Mid-range Wheels (This is the bulk of the market, with these... you can truly be blissfully unaware of the levels above you)
$500 - $1500 = Upper Mid-range Wheels (Noticeably better than the two previous levels and separate component choice become an option)
$1500 + = Unlimited Class (Never driven on these, but they look to have insane levels of real-"ness" at the expense of your bank account/credit)

If you are looking for the best mid range product $500 - $1500 it depends on what you play, console or PC... or both?

What i mean by realness is how much the wheel turns per side like a regular car wheel, so like 720 to 900 Degrees per side?
The shake of the wheel when traction is added but i think they can all be adjusted? but mainly the turn per side...
i just now found out about Brush/Brushless, gear..
and as for the DD i dont mind it. Car Steering Wheels dont have an unlimited spin...
Spelling not what an English teacher would advise,
So as for rn my choices are G920,G29,Thrustmaster tx rw.

DD wheels have an unlimited rotation but that doesn't mean that the rotate unlimited in a racing game. Serious racing sims have a soft or hard lock preventing a DD wheel to turn more than the car you are driving in a sim.

Soft lock = taking care of ingame automatically or by changing the steering wheel settings
Hard lock = is a physical lock at the steering wheel itself.

The soft lock also works with any multiturn steering wheel.

If you are looking for something in that $200-500 range, I've only driven the G29. I thought it was great right until I upgraded to a Fanatec CSL. Now I can honestly say I drive the CSL wheel better and enjoy it more as it is SIGNIFCANTLY smoother, stronger and more detailed in its feedback. But again, if you never drive on that next level up you'll be more than happy with the G29, TX or G920 (I'm told the Thrustmaster TX is similar).

Direct drive wheels offer a few things the belt and gear driven wheels can't, so realism will go up a notch. The biggest thing people rave about is the feedback being super detailed, very accurate and quick to communicate. This feedback helps to catch a car that is sliding or hopefully keep it from sliding. However, the only DD wheels that work on consoles right now are Fanatec's DD1 and DD2 (DD2 will only work with a Xbox using an Xbox compatible wheel), but start at $1200 and $1500 just for the wheelbase (no pedals, or steering wheel). So those can get close to or over $2000 really quick.

Lastly, the steering lock option is kinda tricky. On paper, the 900 and 1080 degree wheels don't seem like much to worry about... and they truly aren't. However in practice, the rotation is very important but not so much in the regard of spinning the wheel to that extent. I've found the integration with the games you are playing is the most important thing. This is where the Logitechs and the Thrustmasters are a leg up on the more expensive wheels. As they have tons of support on the consoles, they simply integrate cleaner in more of the games. I've been lucky with the games I play and my Fanatec has no issues with wheel rotation. I leave it in Auto and it is well programed in the games I play to adjust to each car's optimal degree of rotation (or sensitivity). But you should definitely look for reviews of the wheel you choose on the games you play. If you Sim on PC this shouldn't be an issue, as they are more adjustable in the games.

For me best means:
  • Direct Drive (never experienced it myself but everyone is saying it's where it's at).
  • Play Station compatibility that spans at least two generations (4 and 5 today).
  • PC compatibility (normally this is THE most supported platform).
  • Quality and durable hardware (long service, can withstand thousands hours of use).
As I understand, Fanatec's DD1 is the only option out there that meets these requirements at least partially, right?

The DD1 is for PC/XBone. The "Podium Racing Wheel F1" is for PC/PS4.

Yes it is a little confusing because of Fanatec product lines, but I believe one of their reps said the PS4 Podium wheel is a chipped DD1 with some PS4 optimization. So largely, its a DD1. The Xbox can use the basic DD1 or DD2 because compatibility is determined by the attached wheel.

You can also use the "Podium Racing Wheel F1" on Xbox if you buy or have a separate Xbox rim. That will be my next purchase along with the V3 pedal set. I know this doesn't quite answer the op's question, but if you want the "best" wheel to suit/fit all options, this is the best way to go.

On another point, I know money can be hard for some people. But look at the pic below and adjust the amounts any way you like. With some patience and planning, you can get the wheel set up that you desire.

For myself i have find out, playing with a direct drive on consoles(ps4pro/x1s) is like playing a 3000€ guitar on a 10€ speaker, driving 255 wide tyres on a fiat panda, suite a smoking to go shopping at wallmark, grill steaks on electro grill.....
A direct drive wheel is no advantage on consoles, you will never get the full performance a dd could give like on pc games.

Best price/fun combo would be a non direct drive wheel for console.
If only GT-S on ps4, the T-GT from thrustmaster is best choice in price and hardware. If on xbox a fanatec wheel. If pc, save money for a direct drive.

Could you elaborate more on this? Are you saying that on consoles DD wheels produce less torque or is it something else?

The torque is the same but the information that's sent to the wheel is sent at a different rate (I think it's approximately half), so games like Assetto Corsa and PCars will feel a lot better, and be more precise, on PC than PS4 with a DD wheel. This may (hopefully) change for the next generation of consoles.

This is true but LFS with 100Hz FFB rate feels much better (at least for me) compared to AC with 333Hz FFB rate, so the FFB rate is not everything.

A better wheel is just that... a better wheel. No hiding that, period. But, I do agree, the improvement might be diminished if a certain level of adjustability or support is not available on the console. In this case, I think the PS4 Podium wheel would be better than what I got, but I can't say for sure. Honestly, I was very tempted to wait for the next batch of Podiums to ship, but I was without a working wheel so I bought what was available.

I wish I had background on the T-GT, but I don't think it is as good as Fanatec's Clubsport or CSL lines, but again I'm just guessing. The smoothness in the Fanatec wheels is simply amazing, and the smoothness opens the door for subtle nuances that normally get muddied-up. Additionally, I believe they are both capable of a little more torque than the Thrustmaster even if you don't use it all.

That's the thing really... if a game has poor FFB to start with, it doesn't matter what wheel you've got it's still gonna feel like crap :sly:

Edit: Not that I'm suggesting either of those games are crap, far from it in fact!
