Well, recently i'v been wanting to purchase a racing wheel. Have the cockpit all setup and everything. But i was wondering which one i'd should buy. (For PS2 and if works with PS3/XBOX360 as well thats a plus) I'v been hearing alot about the G25 but i just wanted to make sure.

Thanks đź‘Ť

Just upgraded from a Driving Force to a G25 myself and the 900 degree steering is absolutely worth having. I haven't used the Driving Force Pro (also 900 degrees) so I can't tell you if the G25 is worth the additional cost over a DFP when playing GT4, as you can't take advantage of the clutch and gearbox set, but I also play some computer racing games that can take advantage of the extra controls, and for these the G25 is fabulous. If GT5 takes advantage of it, then I'll be very happy. I just wouldn't want to go back to a simpler system now.

I don't know if any of these wheels are X-box compatible.

EDIT: Oh, and for a G25 (and I guess DFP) make sure your cockpit is nice and sturdy, and your driving position is particularly good. I could get away with odd driving positions with the Driving Force (plank of wood sitting on two cardboard boxes did fine) but the G25 has made it obvious that I need to invest in a proper dedicated cockpit to get the most from the wheel.

I love my DFP and would never change it, but if i did it would be to a G25. I like the idea of a clutch and H-Shift. If all you want it for is quick drive around a track every now and then go for the DFP because of the cost, but if you are a real dedicated racer go for the G25. I havent used a G25yet but what iv heard of them, they are one of the best. Hope this helps.

can i ask here, which steering wheel has a handbrake with it (not the lousy one) and is there a way to put a handbrake on the g25?and 1 more thing,if im using a g25 for ps2,do i use a controller port and/or a usb port?and can you use the g25 for both the ps2/ps3 and pc?

I don't think any wheel has a "hand brake" they all use buttons. As for handbrake on a G25 you would have to modify it.Not sure asbout using G25 on PS2 Works on PS3 (usb port). If using the G25 on a PC you can change the handbrake to where it's on the hand shifter and use the paddle shifters to change gears. I think that since the PS3 is suppose to be a (super computer & gaming system) that you should be able to load profiles from any gaming wheel but I guess SONY doesn't look at gaming like this. I mean you can use a keyboard and mouse a headset, why not be able to program your wheel.

The G25 is compatible with PC/PS2/PS3 and it uses a USB port. As for the handbrake im not sure if you can fit a frex one to it. Its possible but it may only work with a PC (not a expert unfortunatly).

Microsoft was negotiating with Logitech before FM2 got released, but their talks broke down when MS ran out of time and Logitech wheels won't work with an XBox, for now.

Cheers,

I just bought a G25 after having a DFP for a couple of weeks. The difference in actual performance is minimal, but the G25 FEELS a lot nicer. The leather steering wheels & shifter are really nice, & the pedals are heavier & absolutely solid with a very distinct feel to each pedal. The biggest difference (other than the H shifter & clutch , which I haven't been able to use yet) comes from the feel of the larger steering wheel & the fact that the shifter has a positive (almost) real feel to the shifting, unlike the DFP shifter which feels very unrealistic & toy-like.

I would say definitely buy the Pro, playing GT4 without it is missing 50% of the experience. The G25 is a nice upgrade, but not essential.

Personaly i dont think the G25 is needed, its only really for the hardcore games who like the real deal (no offence to anybody).

That's what I thought, but if you try one, you'll find that the larger G25 wheel makes a huge difference.

I had 30 gold license times in GT4 using the DFP. I've just started a new game using the G25 and I've now got 45 golds....

So even for PS2 use, its a much better wheel, and you've got the added bonus of the clutch and shifter for PC use. DFP pedals have issues too, and don't seem to be put together that well. The G25 pedals are fantastic and have a great feel to them.

Don't get me wrong, the DFP is a great wheel and is light years ahead of most other wheels, but the topic is about the "best racing wheel" and that is clearly the G25.

I bought the DFP just because I didn't have the money for the G25. It's nice, i'm happy :) Maybe if GT5 or any other upcoming game that comes out with clutch support on the G25 i'll buy it.
