The rules are as follows:

  • Entries will accepted until 11:59pm (GMT) June 9th.
  • Each competition's voting will last for one week. The winner of that round will choose the next theme.
  • All entries must have been taken between within the last 6 months and preferably after the announcement of the theme.
  • Entries must be posted as a thumbnail no larger than 700px on the longest edge. Full sized images may be as larger as you'd like.*
  • You must submit only your own photographs, do not post anyone else's work.
  • Only one photograph per person, marked with Final Entry. You can change your entry, but must remove your current entry first and clearly state that you have posted a new entry.
  • You must not vote for your own photograph when the Poll is up. Only vote for a photograph taken by another entrant.
  • The photograph must be submitted with the following information: Subject, Date and Camera used and, if you'd like, the major camera settings - shutter speed, ISO, etc.
*While full sized images may be as larger as you'd like, you should try to limit them to approximately 1200px to enable viewing the entire image without scrolling. It's much easier to see the full effect of the shot when you can view it all at once and not have to pan.

Current theme, chosen by Week #1 winner Boffin:
I'd like to see Monochrome entries. Could be in B&W or other colours, its up to the entrant.
Good luck, everyone!

Did not have anything for the money theme in the end :grumpy: Do have something in store for this one though 👍

Final Entry
Ash Clouds
Its an older picture, from like 2007; during the fires. This is a picture of the ash-clouds that were covering everything. Click the picture for full-resolution. It's huge.

Dang! Not a snowball's chance in hell of winning with the likes of you.

Still, not going to let that turn me off. Will be downloading my monotonous submission as soon as I upload it.

Cancelled my entry. Decided to enter the next time when I have time to get a good pic :)

Unretouched. Lightly cropped.
Camera Make: Apple
Camera Model: iPhone 3GS
Date/Time: 2012:06:06 22:30:53
Resolution: 640 x 391
Flash Used: No
Focal Length: 3.9mm
Exposure Time: 0.100 s (1/10)
Aperture: f/2.8
ISO Equiv.: 1016

When I think of monotones, I think not just in shades of black or sepia, but also in varying tones of any other chroma, i.e. one may for instance consider an arrangement that spans shades from the palest pink to the deepest crimson. Finding that in nature is actually hard though paradoxically plentiful; e.g. a forest may be every shade of green, yet will not provide enough interest in itself other than as a monotone picture in shades of green. For the moment I will submit this. I may play another card later. ;)

Also - throwing this in for your consideration, TB, (not to make you work too hard) but while it is most obvious that the Submission and Archive threads of the Competition are more appropriate in the Photography section, there may be more interest generated, and also more votes placed, if the Voting thread was displayed in the main drag, our Village Square (Rumble Strip). This will also get more views, too, to, I bet, the gratification of our competing lightscribers.
There are some intense, and very memorable shots submitted this time around - would be a shame if not as many members as possible had the opportunity to see them.

Cheers, and Thanks again for all the work you do to keep things going.
Harry. 👍

Wow, some really nice shots from the latest submitters here. It's going to be a good one again :D

I think we all know who is going to win this round, but here goes anyway:

Additional foot traffic is really no reason to forgo the fora sections. There's enough ambiguity in parts of the GT5 section. We don't need that spilling over in the Rumble Strip because someone wants more views/comments, either, and there's really no defense when the objection "But TB did it" inevitably comes up.

Still amazes me what you manage with a cellphone. Very good eye for composition.

Thanks. My birthday is a month away, so NEX-5N should be here at least by then. I'll be like that dog doing chemistry. I'll have no idea what I'm doing.
