The rules are as follows:

  • Entries will accepted until 11:59pm (GMT) Wednesday 26th February
  • Each competition's voting will last for one week. The winner of that round will choose the next theme.
  • All entries must have been taken within the last 6 months and preferably after the announcement of the theme.
  • Entries must be posted as a thumbnail no larger than 700px on the longest edge. Full sized images may be as larger as you'd like.*
  • You must submit only your own photographs, do not post anyone else's work.
  • Only one photograph per person, marked with Final Entry. You can change your entry, but must remove your current entry first and clearly state that you have posted a new entry.
  • You must not vote for your own photograph when the Poll is up. Only vote for a photograph taken by another entrant.
  • The photograph must be submitted with the following information: Subject, Date and Camera used and, if you'd like, the major camera settings - shutter speed, ISO, etc.

*While full sized images may be as larger as you'd like, you should try to limit them to approximately 1200px to enable viewing the entire image without scrolling. It's much easier to see the full effect of the shot when you can view it all at once and not have to pan.

Current theme as chosen by week 41 winner, Azuremen:
Well, the colors thing seems to have worked out well, so lets just go with "White"

@Cale - amazing shot; but, I'm curious: aquarium? Fish tank? And your lighting source?

@wfooshee - impeccable as always, but that combo of 1/500 @ f:18 on a long lens boggles my mind. Great capture - well executed; I can feel the tailwind.

Must point camera at white stuff soon. I'm surrounded by it right now anyway.

Shooting shutter-priority to make sure of no motion blur, and spot metered to try to minimize blown-out whites.

Yeah it was The Aquarium of The Pacific In I think Newport Beach, CA. There was no extra lighting source, just the light in the top of the tank.

That makes a lot of sense; I was actually wondering if you were using a tripod - but the 1/500 made me somewhat bemused - and the f:18 confused me further. This is what I love about photography - we have a problem, and we use one of several possible solutions, juggling aperture/shutter/ISO (or speed of film)and all the other factors affecting the environment (light, dust, humidity, etc, etc) to get the effect we want. Fascinating.. . . .

Thanks, Cale. I myself was wondering what the effect would have been if you were got that overhead shot but with lighting from the sides that would have given a whole new angle to the translucence. What makes the overhead shot stand out, though, is the amazing visual compatibility of the gravel; the perfectly 'rough/grainy' visual foil to the soft silkiness of the jellies themselves.

That was actually from the side of the tank. I have no idea what was floating around in the water.

FINAL ENTRY

Hi Guys,

I'm new to this so please give my feedback as to if this is within the rules.

Porsche 911 turbo @TT-Circuit Assen (NL) during Race against cancer
alakart7_700px.jpg

The Porsche was parked at a pittbox in between taxi drives. The taxi drives were meant to give families who have to deal with cancer a good day at the track.

Canon 600D
Canon 18-55mm IS
Exposure 1/100
ISO 200
Aperture f 3.6
focal length 18 mm
As I said I hope this is within the regulations

I like the shot really well lit and razor sharp but, you have some dead space on the right side , a lower angle if possible would be preferred and oh my - you cut the reflection, oh noes.

I like the cut off but would have gone for a vertical shot to cut out the mess on the righthand side AND include the whole right rear light, you've cropped it (in camera?) a bit too much on the left.

As mentioned this is MY take on these photographs - both very good efforts though!

Hey AMG.,

Thank you for your feedback! The reason I made this in Landscape is that I'm also and filmmaker and won't change to portrait if it isn't absolutely necessary. and the sail in the back didn't bother me to much. but your absolutely right on the part of the rear light

I'll be able to post something up when I get home today, which will be in a couple of hours...
