If I'm honest, I was hoping for a ginormous turnout due to the camera phone theme but 17 is still damn good! 👍

As usual, good luck, everyone!

I have a few recent ones done with a point and shoot, I could add in if you like, can't get phone pics online because I am so old school cheap phone

Late to the party, arora. This is the poll thread. You should have posted something earlier in the Week #6 thread. Sorry.

You could submit a shot for the Week #7 comp, though. 👍

I don't actually know who I voted for, but it was the shot of the reflection in the spin dryer.

People tried to take/show (via editing) the photo's they'd have taken with a DSLR, but since the theme, or at least the question at the top of this page, who best represented a phone camera.. is not who can take a shot like DSLR shot, I wanted to go with the quintessential camera phone shot... one with a reflection of the snapper holding up his/her phone.. and this one fit the bill, along with being visually interesting.

Absolutely agree with this, which is why I went for the street shot with the bicycle. My second choice would have been Azuremen's spin dryer one.

The rest, while nice photographs, are just emulations of shots that you'd expect from DSLRs. There's no spontaneity to them.

That's not entirely true. In regards to my shot, I was in my kitchen, looked out the window, saw the sunlight coming through the clouds, grabbed my phone and took the shot - I wasn't planning anything and it was well less than one minute start to finish. It wasn't until a week later that I finally sat down to do a bit of editing. :)

Being emulations of DSLR photographs while being taken by something having the portablility to fit in a pocket and make calls, surf the web etc etc still makes them more than worthy to be voted for. There was nothing in the brief about spontaneity, snapshot genre or, dare I say, lomography type styles. It was photos taken by a phone. I would say overall aesthetics are just as good a reason to vote for in image you like in this poll..

Well, personally, I like that some of the shots visually reference the topic, as well as just being aesthetically pleasing and fulfiling the theme - which was a technical requirement of being shot using a phone, rather than anything to do with the subject.

That's not to take anything away from the other shots, they're all pretty good, but a visual tip to the topic is a nice touch that gets Azuremen's a couple of bonus points from, hence I voted for it over Darth on Moped (which definatley made me crack a smile and would have been my second choice).

Lucky I voted on my own criteria and didn't suggest everyone else did the same then, right?...

Yes. Lucky. ;)

A matter of second-hand perception. May not be entirely true, hfs.

Same with me: I was fishing with my son, when I suddenly realised I wanted to capture his first cast. Out came my phone.

I was swung between all the shots - as photography, all examples of good photographic craftsmanship. Programming myself as much as possible with last week's winner's criteria, I had to go with the shot on the mo'bike. Taking such a good shot at that speed is surely dangerous. The choice of phone for that shot is judicious.

Absolutely. But I can - and should - only judge the photograph itself. If the shot is indistinguishable from something taken on an SLR that's no doubt an impressive technical achievement, but it just doesn't shout "phone camera" to me.

Nor - before anyone says something - am I suggesting that a shot should be deliberately crap to match the theme. I just think the beauty of a phone camera is that it can be whipped out in an instant to capture something that you might not normally capture when there's an SLR slung around your neck.

People are welcome to not like my opinion and free to interpret the rules how you wish. Just don't be indignant if I'm not that arsed on your shot...

I tried my hardest not to because it's not the case. My work and ideas and the way I shoot, interpret and express through the photographic medium is constantly being criticised as I am a uni student, so its no problem. I guess where I was coming from is letting some of the more 'swayable' members know that while your opinion is founded and reasonable, it shouldn't be seen as the only set of criteria. You don't see anyone saying "I voted for so-and-so because their shot looks the best technically, aesthetics wise", but its as just a valid opinion, as I am sure you would appreciate. It was an open theme and some people took it in different ways, which I think is great.

Congrats, Cale. Well done! Damn, when GTP votes, they do it in droves, don't they? Was a great shot, though a bit too painterly for me. However - the masses have spoken - and you have earned it.
Looking forward to another good challenge. 👍
