Big Problem with GT4

Hi.

I read some Threads about People having Problems with their Version of GT4, but I didn´t find a solution for mine.

I was playing today an raced a Tournament. Between the Race my PS2 already makes some bad Sounds.
After the Race I skipped the Replay and then there was the Loadingscreen, but this spinning circle was red and it didn´t load.

So I turned it off and tried again... Same Problem again.

After that I looked at my GT4 DVD. There are only some little scratches, which were also there before.

Is my PS2 Laser maybe broken?

I hope you can help me.

(sorry for my bad english)

Hello, -Darkness-. Your English is much better than my Deutsche, so don't worry.

Try searching for "disk read error" or "DRE" in this forum. Also, look in the threads that are at the top of this board. There are answers to common questions listed there.

Guten Tag -Darkness-!

Try having a read through this thread!

There's some useful links in there regarding cleaning the lens and laser alignment, as well as disk cleaning and repair suggestions.

A simple thing to try if you suspect the laser is at fault is to use a different PS2 game disk. If that loads OK then your PS2 and laser are fine, and the problem lies with the GT4 disk itself. If the other game won't load either, it's time to take your PS2 in for repair, or follow the links in the thread above and break out your screwdriver. Be careful and remember to unplug the mains lead before you remove the covers though! :scared:

Thats what I dont really get. The Game loads and I can start a race. But after the race it crashes and I comes that red spinning s... :ouch:

EDIT: Seems like I have to clean the sensor. I´ll try it tomorrow and let you know if it works.

It's well worth the effort, I have just done mine and it's loading perfectly now.

Did you have the same problem with the red loading marker (spinning thing, you know :dunce: )
Yes. It's best to Google the instructions for dismantling the PS2 as there is a very fragile ribbon cable between the two halves of the case. If you accidentally damage that = big headache.

Ok, thanks. Opening the PS2 should be not a problem. I already got my friends one open :dopey:

I have the same problem, but only at arcade and sometimes at GT mode too. :ouch: First time it happened I thought that problem is caused by overheating, but it seems to be a disk reading error. :nervous:
...
Strange, my GT disk is fine no scratches at all......and other games work flawless.

I cleaned the sensor, but It didnt help.

HELP! :nervous:

Ich cleaned my sensor with alcohol but there is the same problem again. Now I think its this litte white gear wheel behind the sensor.

Does anybody got an "How to do" tutorial how to set this wheel? :scared:

Alcohol is very weakly acidic and is highly unlikely to have damaged the lens in any way.

Perhaps try a Google search for "ps2 disk read error" - I know I've read a procedure for physically adjusting the laser, but I can't seem to find the link where I found it.

[edit] YES! That's the one, below. Thanks, Scaff.

Here is the one I have used before and found very good.

Just follow the steps and take your time.

With alcahol?:dunce:
Alcahol is acid, maybe it screwed up the entire surface of the sensor!

Alcohol is one of the best cleaning materials for disinfecting or clearing up glass, I think. But it has to be the alcohol that you put on cotton balls to clean cuts so they won't get infected. I can't remember what it's called, I think it's isopropyl alcohol, or something like that :irked:

But -Darkness-, just follow the link that Scaff gave and you should be alright. I've only had the red wheel error once, and that was after my disc got a little bit dusty and I forgot to clean it off.

Another thing that might work could be to take the PS2 apart and gently vacuum out the inside for dust. I saw a link around here somewhere, and I'll try to get it to you.

Your English is very good though, for someone who knows it as a second language. Hopefully though, Scaff's link will help out for you. :)

EDIT:

About the vacuuming option, I was actually the one who suggested that you put a vacuum up to the fan of the older PS2 and suck the dust out. More people like <_Spike_>, Pink_the_Floyd and others than said that Modik should open the PS2 since his warranty was expired and genlty vacuum it out.

Which PS2 do you have?

I got the 30004 R.

But again to my Problem. What I dont get is, that the game loads and I can start a race. But at the point when the CPU stops to drive and I can controll the car, then the disc spinns like its crazy.
When I quit the race, THEN come this red marker.

So I dont know if its maybe the DVD.

But I try the white wheel positions at the moment, and will tell you when I´m finnished.

DID IT!!!!!!!!!

Oh my god. Finnaly its running.
But the laser wasnt the only reason. Believe it or not, it was my Savegame too, which makes problems.

Thank you for all your help and have a nice evining.

Now I need a few beer to realise this :D

Crazy thing happened tonight:

My PSP fell on the wooden floor from my desk really hard(approx. 1,5 metres high!); I thought I broke it but guess what happpened! :dunce:

The problem is fixed now! No disk reading errors anymore! No problems at all!
A console fixing itself....not every AI is stupid, I got the first CPU that repairs itself LOL. 💡

As you can imagine Iam very happy now, good luck with your PSP problem fixing, but I dont suggest you to drop your PSP on the floor too! - You may have even more problems after that.:ill:

I owned a PS2 where bashing it HARD would make it work for a few days or so. After a month or two, bashing it eventually didn't work anymore, so I had to get rid of it completely (didn't want the fuss or costs of repairing it. It was on its last legs elsewhere too as it was 4 years old).

Fingers crossed the same won't happen with your PS2. :)

I used to own the very 1st PS2 that came out. If you play GT4 for a couple of hours. The system won't be able to read the CD anymore and if that clock on the screen turns red, it'll take FOREVER for it to load or not load at all. Best bet is if you just take it in and trade it in or buy a refurbished 3rd gen or so PS2 or buy yourself a slim PS2. I had hookups with EB Games so I was able to get a slim PS2 for free and the other 3 slim PS2 that I went through.

My PSP is less than a year old, hope its not on its last legs too.:guilty:
Looks like the PSP has a built in self destruction device to make you buy another one for some $$$$. :
