BIG problem with Windows XP

Ok, I got my new computer and Windows XP with it a couple of months ago. After using the computer for about 3 weeks a problem ocurred. When starting the computer I got to the point when windows says "welcome" and then it restarted. It did this a couple of times and then it started normally. After a couple of weeks it did this again, only this time I closed the computer for an hour and tried again. It started normally. Now we come to the BIG problem. It happened again today. This time I had real trouble starting the computer. When checking the BIOS I noticed that my primary boot device was a Cd-rom, so I thought "This probably won't work but I'll try it anyway" and took the cd out. The computer started. The odd part is that most if the time I have a cd inside and the computer still starts normally. This is the problem log that I got when Windows opened...

When starting my computer I used to get a message that said that an IDE cabel wasn't connected (it had some more precise info too but I can't remember it). Today I opened my computer and checked the cabels and then the message said that the cabel was connected. Is there any chance that THIS is the cause for this bigger problem (remember, before connecting the cable properly it started after trying a couple of times)?

I also did a google search and I found an article that said that a problem with slightly different log is caused by drivers that aren't compatible with Windows XP. So I updated my drivers.

I'm thinking od changing the primary boot device to hard drive, but I don't think that this is the cause of the problem.

So please help.

Go ahead and change it to hard drive, this won't have any effect whatsoever, it just swaps around the order in which the computer looks for an operating system; as I'm sure you know.

Local Settings is a hidden folder - choose to view hidden folders, go into Local Settings > Temp > WER76c0. dir00 and delete those two files.

As for the disconnected cables... I've never heard of those triggering problems with the software, usually if an IDE cable's disconnected it simply won't run the piece of hardware it should be connected to.

Do you still have the original Windows installation disc? Set the boot priority to CD-ROM, then throw the disc in, and after it automatically checks all your devices (you know, the bit that takes almost eight years...) You'll see the "set up Windows now" , "repair" , etc. Repair Windows, this should fix the problem.

Oh, and you might think about running various antivirus and malware programs in your possession, just in case.

If your IDE cable was loose, that could have caused the problem. I had that happen and it caused big boot problems.

But then again, when I connected the IDE cabel properly, the computer still didn't start....


I guess I have to do the repair trick.


PS. I really hope that this thing will boot properly next morning.
