Biggest letdown in the game...

The Shift game and the people who play it remind me of when I first got bit by the motorcycle racing bug. There are people who ride motorcycles and enjoy the wind in their face, people who ride motorcycles and try to go fast and never will, people who race motorcycles because riding isn’t racing but they will never be a pro, and finally people who race motorcycles at the pro level and are able to see the difference between the groups. In other words until you have given what it takes to understand what it takes you will never have what it takes to do what it takes to have any success with what it takes.

If you meaint I wasnt pro in any way, Or that I havent played it long enough,

I Dont know Why You Think I haven't played the game, Or even gone far.
I Own it, Ive unlocked all tiers, and I know how to play the game.
Infact I think I myself am a very good driver in gran turismo, Ive almost gotten gold on every class A and B races (In gt5.prologue) and I find myself pretty well rounded on other sims. So I think I can go to an arcade racer like shift, Pretty easily. The fact is, Its harder to move from an arcade racer to a simulator, than it is to move from a simulator to an arcade racer.

If I got it wrong, Make your post a bit more clear.

Easy Mani I was just talking in generalities as to the way people relate to the reality that the game designers use to make a Sim, there are people that have never done the real thing and only have a Sim or arcade experience to try to make their point.

No one would ever make a game that was just driving at the posted speed limit. There isn’t anything exciting about that so the obvious is, the peddle down experience, and how far those players go to find parity in the real world. You could be the best Sim driver in the world and never be able to beat that old man Mark Martin.

Biggest letdown for me is there is no "real-time" or "on-the-fly" tuning during game..need to quit,go to menu, tuning...blah..blah..blah..restart game..sigh..time consuming...

no test-drive? WTH!!

yes this was a nice feature in pro street..

Not much for me to say, but when I played the demo, I don't know if it was the car, track, but something made the driving experience blow away from the beginning. Is NFS losing its taste?

.... Sort of..
Well If your referring to GT5.prologue's driving force gt, on the fly car settings.. Then that's a luxury of a feature, not really standard in most games.
Im kind of used to it from GT games to go back to the racing menu and switch my settings there, but I guess its annoying that shift doesn't have a race menu.. So yeah, it sucks that you need to go all the way back to the main menu settings.

The removed features from the codebase of GTR2 they started off with and the features they obviously had working but cut from the release.

Nothing stopping there being flag rules, false start disqualification, tandem drifts, ghost laps, pitting, fuel consumption, whole-car damage with onscreen display, working mirror & window & tcs & abs & esp & hazard/fog/main lights, cd player, wipers, ignition switches, a dedicated server package, night/rain/snow races, etc, other than that they either disabled it or removed the assets it needed.

Black Box doing the UI and making it incredibly tedious to use for anything rates up there too.

I had fun with this game, until I got to works/supercar races, now with the sense of speed involved with the game I can't make out what is right in front of me.

The biggest letdown(s) for me, is:

1. As mentioned, the contols that can't be set to something more traditional. X is for gas, Square is for brake. End of story. Honestly, at the end of a "Endurance" race (Yah right, 20 laps of Laguna Seca is very endurance-ish!:odd:) my right hand is somewhat stuck in that hook-ish shape.:scared: The only other option you have, is to have gas and brake, on the right analog stick. What a joke.:dunce:

2. The stupid computer. I got my PS3 last christmas, along with NFS Shift. And as usual with my family, my dad insisted we opened our presents at 12PM. After I fainted when I saw the PS3 logo sticking out of the wraping, I hooked it up, put NFS in and started carreer. Being tired, I set the brake assist to Light and the steering assist the same, thinking that in the morning, I can switch it off, and continue like I do on GT4. God in heaven. I was wrong.:grumpy: I'm now stuck with the computer braking FOR ME, in all the wrong places. The AI (If you can call them intelligent:drool:) must be thinking "Who is this clown?". My only hope is to pass them on the straights, or to simply bash them out of the way in the corners. If you know of a way I can switch the assists off WITHOUT restarting my brilliant carreer mode, please help.

3. Like I said. Endurance events? 20 laps of Laguna Seca and Road America? Really?:odd: I do that for warm-up on GT4!

So far as I can tell, the only plus points, are the details of the cars' interiors. That is something, if the only thing, they got right.

Theres an options menu you can go to from the main menu, and there is also a racing options menu.. Im Sure I have set assists on and off before (when I still had it).. just Try them both.

Biggest letdown(s);

No practice, no qualify.
Non realistic AI, they don't race

I do prefer more serious titles (like Superstars V8 Next Challenge), However, I still like my occassional run with this game, It has some nice tracks and I think reasonable good sounds. Great for some on line fun in a private session with my brother and 10 AI’s. And today’s price is well worth It.

Yeah mate. I tried that, but the two assists I want off, are always blacked out. Can't change them...:indiff: I'll try again later today perhaps.

You probably have the master handling mode switch set to 'casual'. At casual the steering and brake assists are forced and you're driving with 28% lower centre of gravity and 21% extra grip as compared to 'pro'. At every other handling level they should be active.

if you change the control mode to pro in those options, i think you'll find you have full control over the assists on/off 👍

edit; yep, what he said as i was writing my post :D

The biggest letdown for me is that it's impossible to put bodykits on Tier 4 cars, like this model had me believe before the game came out:

The biggest let downs for me were...

The RIDICULOUS car hopping issue.

The annoying stright cut gears sound. Even with a stock transmission.

Still felt very arcade like. (even in with all driver aids off)

Cars handled too good sometimes. (hence the arcade feel)

This NFS was TOO serious. I'd rather go back to a NFSU2 style game.

To say the least i was pretty disaapointed with the game. Once i beat it, it got boring pretty fast, and the online didn't entertain me any longer...So it went twoards the pre-order of GT5 👍

Let's see... There's a lot. Bad ai. Rewarding you for crashing. 10 laps is enough for an endurance race. No night time in that 10 laps. No pit stops. No weather. Most of the people that play online bump you off the track. The damage is bad. The cars drift through corners even on pro handling. But I still find this game fun

The livery editor is slow to use and just is a bit crap..
The AI just seems a bit thick, I played Grid for ages before i got NFS and the AI in that is agressive and just fun to race against, whereas NFS...
The steering when using a controller. No matter how much i turn, the car just slides, regardless of speed or angle of turning. I just go to overtake and it slides.
The damage is really quite pants
Loading times are stupidly longg
The layout of the menus is boring and rubbish
Lack of split screen

It goes on and on and on and on.... Ah well. GT5 will be here soon :)

The control settings in the games pissed me off!!! I was really hoping that I would be able to change the layout to a more GT style layout (x to gas, square to brake and l2r2 for shifting). There is no preset layout that even comes close and mapping individual buttons is out of the question.

I dont have a wheel so I am stuck with this setting, the wheel makes it allot more pleasant. Even with the wheel I still cant map the buttons (no camera turning button and the nos is on the shifter console with the g25).

I still think the game is really fun and the crappy mandatory control schemes is the only thing that pisses me off.

The beauty of racing games on the ps2/ps3 is the pressure sensitivity that all the buttons have, I think it was a shame, its my only major gripe with the game. The limited car and track selection is not as big a deal to me (its not like its gt5p minimal lol).

ANYONE WITH ME?
ANY OTHER COMPLAINTS?
ANY DISAGREEMENTS?

The control scheme is your biggest complaint? Really? Not the countless bugs and glitches? Everytime the replay is running and it jumps back to the menu, it glitches. The rumble effect is a little broken, too. Why does running over cones feel like your driving over a washboard? The glitches are worse than Forza, but not as annoying 'cause they really don't effect your career or the gameplay that much.

I have a G25 wheel and it's fustrating that i need to reach down to the (o) button when I wish I could make it a button on the wheel itself.

As regards the steering.,,, I think all My cars steer well ..No probs

As regards the Bouncing ,, Try to stay on the track LOL it helps you know
My Zonda is great,,,as long as you stay on the Track,,,, which is most of the time LOL

I just hate starting the game, I don't think I should have to select a language and read about autosave every time I put the disc in.

Haha it's stupid isn't it? I really HATE any video game that doesn't let you change the controls. In this day in age, it's totally rediculous to have mandatory control schemes & many shooters I will never play bcuz I use a unique control set up (aim inverted, right stick- move/strafe, left stick aim ). BUT, by far the worst part of NFS SHIFT IS THEY ONLY LET KEEP A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF CARS @ONCE!!!!!!!!!!!! limited garage space is totally stupid & no racing game should ever do that. IT'S RETARTED!!!!!!!

The PS3's controller is not the best for the default botton option there should definatly be more layout options

Also why did the devs dicide that the reward cars are only accessable on quick race and not career???

P.S. has anybody seen where you unlock the Maserati MC12??
it doesnt come with uping your driver level nor is it in thye car lot

go on PSN & download the TEAM RACING DLC. It's free too

My only complaints are; Cars feel like they're on hydraulics. Long loads. Blah menu. The physics are so inconsistent.
Other than that. This game is real nice, especially sound.
