Black screen on my Aquos LC32D43U...

My sharp aquos LC32D43U (2 years old) just stop working today after 2 minutes. The power and opc green ligths are constantly blinking and the screen is just black. The remote doesn't work at all, I have to unplug the TV to switch it off. I plug it back, can watch TV, but 2 minutes after I switch to my PS3 screen, the TV stops working.

I looked on the internet, it seems to be a common problem with these TVs. I am really disappointed.

Who knows about it ? What to do ?

EDIT: After countless and unsuccessfull tries to make it start correctly, I've found out that this problem happens only several seconds after I start a game in HDMI, with HDMI cable. Normal TV is working well (good old antennas). If I put back in 480i resolution (with white, red and yellow cable) it is working well...
I really dont know what's going on.

I have search the Internet and found it is a power supply issue(might mean the connections are weak and can't handle the amps needed for the HDTV signal). I have also found a solution here. If you still have the warranty then you can hand it in for a replacement instead of fixing it yourself.

I have the LC32D41U and it exhibits similar problems. For me when the screen goes 'blank' it really is just the backlight of the screen shutting off. In a well lit room you should still see the image faintly on the screen if this is the case. It seems to be a common problem on the Sharp Aquos lineup unfortunately, and from what I've read it requires a circuitboard replacement to fix.

For me it started out to be a pretty rare problem, but now its pretty much every other time I turn the TV on. Its a real pain in the ass..

Here are a few ways to resolve the problem temporarily that I've noticed works:

A) Unplug the TV for 5 mins or so. This seems to stop the backlight shutting off after startup for a few days...

or

B) Make sure OPC is enabled. Switch the TV on, once the backlight goes out, cover the light sensors that control the OPC so the OPC starts adjusting. As it is adjusting power cycle the tv quickly while still covering the OPC sensor. Once the OPC settles you can uncover the sensor and it'll re-adjust back to normal and the TV will work again. It gets old quick having to do this every time you want to use the TV :grumpy:

Well if it happens to be under warranty you will not have to worry much about it. If it's not, then you will have to either pay to get it fixed or you fix it yourself. The last option would be getting a new TV but if you can get the TV fixed you will be saving money.

Try the link I posted before. It might help.

After many other tries, it is still doing the same. On top of, nobody called me back yet from the local Sharp repair service. And as I can see on the internet, it seems to be a VERY COMMON problem on all these kind of Sharp TVs. And worse, in most case, the repair has to be done again and again... I am just amazed by this situation.

Did I said to you it is only 15 days that i use this HDMI device on my TV ?

Surprizigly, it is still working well with my Samsung home theater DVD player on HDMI input. But not at all as soon as I start a game or a movie with my PS3.

So I highly retain from selling it like this, not mentionning about the PS3-HDMI problem, for a correct amount of money that will be used on another TV like Sony, the only brandname that always satisfied me.

Very sad situation and very frustrating that Sharp refuse too admit there is a big problem with their TVs...

Amazing diagnosis there...

Are many people really that ready to dive into the back of their $500 HDTV and start soldering?

Well it would be the last option if you can't sell the TV, low on cash, and really need to play some games.

I manged to fix my tv.. took off the power inverter board, resoldered some of the inverters (could see a bit of heat damage on them) and its now working perfectly again :)

and sharp wanted to charge me $100 for a 'diagnostics' fee just to figure out what was wrong with it.. it was out of warranty so i figured i had nothing to lose..

Hi,

I've scoured the internet for all solutions for this problem, and have tested all the home based remedies without success. I've found that the only thing that works is:

1. Time. Turn your TV on and wait about 20-30 minutes. This will warm it up. Then turn off the TV and turn it back on again, if your TV is completely warmed up, the screen's picture will come back on. If not, keep it on for a bit longer. For my sanity I often turn it on about 30 mins before I need it, then mute it.

2. I have recently found another solution which has worked 4 out of 4 times. Get a hair dryer - and blow hot ait into the back of the television. Usually about 20 seconds will do (while the TV is on). This must warm up the necessary parts, as the picture returns afterwards. Yes, it's a little strange having a hair dryer near your PC, but it works.

Good luck.
