Right well I’ll start by telling you I wasn’t exactly giving this film my complete attention.

The plot is very simple, Djimon Honsou’s character finds a “blood diamond”, hides it, and ends up trying to get it back with the help of Leo Dicaprio after he here’s it being spoke of in a jail. And somewhere along the line they meet Jennifer Connelly. There’s lots of violence and lots of speeches.

Its very easy to separate the good things & the bad things in this movie. Djimon Honsou is brilliant, an excellent actor that well deserves his Oscar nod. Even if it’s for the wrong category (should be lead actor, he’s in this just as much as Dicaprio). Bad thing, Jennifer Connelly. Now don’t get me wrong, she’s a great (& beautiful) actress, but is completely & utterly wasted in this, her character is almost pointless. And then there’s Leo, at least he is playing someone different in this, he isn’t bad, but his accent is. It’s not off-puttingly bad, just bad, I can do a better accent.

Right that’s the actors dealt with, now the rest. The action scenes are ****ing excellent!! Sorry but they are. One in the middle is very “Heat” style, it’s all very loud (but not to loud like The Departed). Also it is very hard to spot the stunt-men in this (although I wasn’t watching that hard). Then there’s the bits in between the action that are just boring. I think there’s suppose to be some political message in here somewhere, “diamonds are bad” I think, not sure, don’t care.

Basically, this is a good pop-corn flick, for the bits that it’s a mindless violent pop-corn flick. When it’s trying to be serious its just quite boring. I will say this though, its 140 odd minutes, but it went pretty quick.

Vioent bits - 9/10, other bits - 4/10.
Overall - 7/10
 
The political message is blood diamons are bad, not diamonds themselves. And that anyone who exploits situations like the one in the film to get these diamonds are bad too. Personally I enjoyed the whole thing, even the bits between the action. I didn't find any of it boring. Overall it's a 9/10 for me.
 
I might find it less boring if i see it properly (i saw it on a date). So i wasn;t concentrating to much.
 
This is not the kind of movie I thought I would enjoy, but I really did. I also never realized how terrible it is over there and whats involved with these dirty diamonds or blood diamonds as they are called. Sad but, good movie with lots of action and a great ending.
 
I don't look at movie reviews on Internet forums often because come on, but you're dead wrong. This film was really, really good. I completely wasn't expecting anything out of it. I too saw it on a date and it was the only thing that made the night salvageable. In fact my date asked me to skip the movie and just "hang out" with her; I told her I wanted to see the movie and I'm so glad I did because it was good and she's probably not that good a kisser.
 
Really, really, really good imo. The best film of the last 12 months by far.

Well I mean it was either the movie or make out for a couple hours and I wasn't that into her, and I had planned on seeing the movie, so yeah, I guess. I think it was a better movie than she a hookup.
 
Hah, you've definitely got your priorities straight.

I need to check this one out, but I've got the other Leonardo DiCaprio movie to check out too, then another long list of other ones.
