The BMW M1 made it's rallying debut at the 1983 Tour De Corsica, the same event as the Lancia 037. It was powered by a 3453cc Inline 6 producing 430HP and weighed just 1150KG. It retired in its first event but scored 2 second places, one at Lyon-Charbonnaires and the other at Antibes. It never competed in a gravel rally.
