I have the bmw m3 csl, the bmw m5 and the m3 gtr roadcar. Everytime I fly down that nurburgring track at over 130-140 the damn suspension starts bouncing like a moda****a! I need some damned help with suspension tuning these cars! The csl is dropped all the way and has dampers set double the schock absorbers methinks. HELP! THis bouncing causes me to end up in the grass or wall. Plus I have a stock ford gt and the damned thing understeers like a *****, its like "ohh im bout to make a turn, press brake, car goes straight when I try to turn" wtf is with that cars suspension! 💡

I have a csl. i've lowered it only slightly, and have fitted racing tyres & a rear wing.

Check that you have near 3/4's downforce front & rear.

You need some travel in the suspension for the 'ring, as its very bumpy :-)

I can take nearly all the circuit flat out as much as possible. No bouncing involved.

Good luck with it.

haha i know it, i was talking to myself almost about his driving (being amazed at the balls he has) the entire time...good thing i was alone. anyway the vid inspired me to run my M3 GTR Race Car around the ring on N1 tires, i ran a 7:48 (went off the road once; small incident). i expect that the fact that i have no fear for my life and that the car probably has more power than it does in real life caused my better time than Stuck's (8:00). But damn is it fun.

For some odd reason, i dont recognize that first part of the track. Was there a section open in that video that we don't have access to in game?

that guy is W A C K E D ...
I was afraid while I was only looking at it :s
he gets everything out of the car at anytime possible
its just crazy

Hi, i'll post my suspension setup for my M3, which sends the car around corners like its on rails.

Springs: F 14.5 R 13.0
Ride height: 94mm all round (all though it can be raised more to cope with the bumps)
Dampers: 9 for bump and rebound, front and rear.
Camber: F 6.5% R 3.5%
Toe: F zero R -3
Stabiliser: F 6 R 6
TCS: 2
Medium racing tires.

Although its by no means perfect, this has given me some good results and was good enough to lap the Nurburgring at 7.29. The bumpy track at the 'ring can still catch you out!

The first part of the track is the current Nurburgring F1 circuit, which isnt on GT4.

about those camber settings....the stiffer end of the car needs to have LESS camber, besides 6.5 (degrees) camber is just absurd.

Does anyone have any setting for the M5?

It's making around 700hp, which I think may be a bit too much, because all it want's to do is understeer.... i've read M-specs tuning guide, softened the front end up, but it's still just wanting to understeer off the track, even at very slow speed....

I'm at a loss. I find GT4 is pretty un-user friendly when changing suspension settings. I recall in GT2, things like toe and camber had a visual background, showing which way the wheel is moving when you adjust. none of this in GT4, and you can only adjust camber one way, 0-8, no negative, and no indication what it's actually doing to the car. 👎

Anyway, does anyone have a good high-power M5 suspension setup?

Works fine for me! Virtually eliminates understeer. In fact the only problem i have found with this set up is that it is too stiff, so a little bit of adjustment is needed on the spring rates.

OK, so I want/need to buy an M for the 'M' club race. I know these questions can bug some people, but the M3 CSL and M5 are both exceptional cars, and cost about the same. Since you can't buy to test drive (CURSE AUTOSAVE!), I ran the normal M3 against the M5 in arcade, and compared my times. The M5 laps were faster by about 3-5 secs , and held about 0-3 mph faster through some constant radius turns(yes, of course same tires). Plus you can use it in the supercar race, too. But it is tons heavier, and I wonder if the extra weight will end up biting me in my (big) butt. Will lightening the M3 will get me a better power/weight ratio than the M5 would get with similar weight reductions? Will some suspension work and mass reduction (plus the CSL's additional power over a stock M3) give me better times than the M5?

P.S. Kirium, you did lighten your M5, right? A heavy car sure would explain understeer that defies suspension tuning. Just a thought.

the m5's power seems to destroy all the other M cars in that championship, as stock. its not a very hard one to win i think. if you want a challenge use n2 tires and go with the m3. with all lightening stages on the M5 mine still weighed about 1400kgs...which is absurd and it definately shows its weight in many of the races. tuning the csl to max makes it drive like the m3 GTR race car, but faster.

Yeah. Stage 3 done. Still no real joy. My CSL just turns so easily with no tyre squeal and plenty of bite. it's a joy to drive. The M5 is just a pig. it's climbing my regret list along with the Caterham.

^ :embarrassed:

Heh, I'm glad ppl liked my CSL settings. The CSL is by far the most balance of all the M3. I've been able to beat the GT cars with those setting and some extra power. The M3 GTR is probably the fastest. It gives up a slight bit in cornering and gains a bunch of horsepower compared to the CSL.

I'm tinkering M3 GTR settings derived from my CSL settings:

Spring rate 8.6 9.1
Ride height 84 84
Bound 9 10 (alternately bound 5 7 rebound 2 2 works more stable)
rebound 3 3
camber 2.0 1.0
toe 0 0
swaybar 1 3

downforce 30 30
All driving aides off

Full custom limited slip
init 5
accel 25 (Put this setting higher if you are roasting the inside rear on corner exit)
decel 5

stage 3 lightening
Around 400 hp
Medium Race tires.

EDIT: when this car is tuned to over 500 hp, tcs 1 limits wheelspin just the right amount
