Has anybody ever seen the Bob Earl Racing seat? I've been considering getting one of these instead of trying to make my own. This is the cheapest decent setup I could find. I already have a car seat I want to try to fit on to hear, but I'm worried that the steering wheel will be too close to my lap.

If you want to sit that close to the ground and plan on running F1 cars, go for it. Otherwise I personally wouldn't consider it.

I have a Bob Earl VRC. Its wonderful and easily one of the most moddable rigs out there. Yes the chassis is near the floor but the newest version has a car sport seat, instead of the F1 type seat.

There are several ways to raise a VRC off the ground, all it takes is your imagination. I raised mine about 6 inches and added a suspension to give me inertia during braking and accelerating.

I say go for it if its your first rig. You can add the shifter adapter on both sides and have a flight cockpit for Hotas.

I loved mine. And Bob is a great dude. His monitor stand is wonderful.

The seat and frame does look great but I would say a bit costly. I would suggest you take a look at the FK Automotive seat and frame that I placed on the forum recently.👍

How is it costly though? It way more comfortable than a Playseat, has much heavier grade steel, and a MUCH better seat and its about $150 less.

Do you have any pictures of your setup?

At 6 feet 4 inches and about 225 lbs, I have the seat streached to it's limits. It's low and you can not do heal and toe (if your into that I am not) because of the center support.

The seat that comes with the unit could be a bit better, but overall it's not bad for a first seat.
I do think I'll be wanting a more upright seat later on.

I'm only 5'11". I'm mostly concerned about the wheel steering wheel being too close to my lap when I try to put on the car seat I already have that I posted above.

Sorry, but the center bar of a Bob Earl is up near the seat, and I heel/toe fine. I have some pics I'll post when I get to work. The newest one is even better. I'll post pics.

Just looked at the site. The upgraded seat look a million times better than when I got mine. That seat make that a real good buy.

You are right Mayaman. Because of the length of my legs and feet it just hard for me. Also, you can offset the pedals to one side of the other. And the seat is so much better on the new model.

Rock on

Awesom seat dude. Does it mount without too much fuss? Hate to be welding or doing too much drilling. But the seat is worth doing some work for.👍

I've been wanting to buy a Bob Earl seat for as long as I can remember. The new version on the site with the better seat makes me want one more, but the money just hasn't been there. There's never been a really good review of one or detailed impressions so I'll be watching this thread. I'm hoping to get one for the CSW when it comes out, but I have no idea how the center bar will hold up to the stronger FFB of the CSW.

I picked mine up from his house last year. Really nice guy. I got to try out the new design as he was testing it. Besides the new seat on the MKII it looks like he added another knob to help keep that center pole more stable. Overall I enjoy it. I'm waiting for the adaptor plate to become availble early next year so I can change my seat.

The center bar should hold up fine. My Turbo S had thousands of miles on that rig and I never had a problem and I had the older model from years ago. He's made several improvements since then.

here's my bob earl seat.. dont have any complaints.. middle bar is not far enough where you couldn't do heel toe. plus adjusting pedals to the left or right will eliminate any interference with the bar.. as far as the middle bar being stable? don't worry it will hold. i've had mine for over a year and it has held up pretty well.. i also have the butkicker attached to the seat and if that doesn't jostle the wheel nothing will. and very moddable.. hence the custom built rig, for reverse mount pedals.

Here is the suspension. The springs have 2 inch wood inserts to keep the springs from swaying to much.

Its a real decent rig and like I said extremely moddable.

I have a Bob Earl v1 bought in 2009 and love it. The seat itself is pretty uncomfortable for long sessions, but it's solid and very functional. Good immersion from using it as well. Just bought a shifter arm recently to add to it. Very satisfied with the seat overall.
