WTF is wrong with the brakes on this thing?

quote: MarsSpork
Amendment to vehicle description:

"The Schwimmwagon uses a reverse-ABS / reverse-traction-on-demand system. Even under mild braking, the system recognizes that power should be disabled to all but one tire (the one under the heaviest load) so the 'Vagon instantly spins and nosedives into walls."

The "more realistic answer" can be found by changing to chase-cam and watching the weight transfer as you brake hard in a corner. True to its name, it sloshes around like a toddler in a bathtub.

The brakes do exactly what they are intended to do - stop the wheels. The fact that the wheels are not in contact with the ground does cause some minor handling issues, but certainly adds to the hilarity of the replays.

^ I read that but was looking for a more accurate and realistic answer.

It's early here but I will hazard a guess and say it has something to do with it being an 80 year old amphibious vehicle :banghead:

Standard gearing limits top speed to the mid-50's which in my experience isn't enough to keep pace with the leader. The fully customizable transmission is a must.

You can actually win this challenge on Comfort Medium tires. 64 bhp (most power adders, sans intake manifold... which does nothing, and no irreversible mods) and a fully customizable transmission give you lap times in the 2:16s.

Probably not as cheap as the Stage 3 turbo + Sports Soft only, but there's a lot of challenge to be had in sticking with Comfort Mediums... you need to drive much more carefully.

Oh... FC transmission is a must. The 5-speed close ratio tops out at 100 km/h, which loses you 30 seconds a lap no matter how good your tires are.

With the FC Tranny, a 160 km/h top speed works with Sports tires and higher, as you can carry more speed around the sweepers. On stock Comfort Mediums, you want to lower it to 150 km/h, as this allows you to maintain speed uphill in 4th gear better. This makes a drastic difference in laptimes on Comfort tires.

Ahh they like their slow cars, well at least I have an excuse to buy the thing now.

Just too bad we can't go off on Trial Mountain and make it schwimm, that would be fun.

It's surprisingly fun to drive I must admit, as long as you don't slam on the brakes too much 👍

I dont want no freaking Schwimmwagen! 625000 credits, the hell! Is there even any profit left once you buy the horrid thing and mod it? :yuck:

Not in terms of money but you will gain some XP and save yourself some grinding I guess.

👍 But check your math, I was born a year before this car and I am not yet 70.

Funny thing to do with this car on this circuit:

Go brake realy hard for the jump and you make a flip over !👍

I slapped a racing suspension on it, lowered the ride height, and tightened the springs and dampers - as well as the racing tranny and turbo. Worked like a charm - no more "reverse ABS" spin-outs. It was actually pretty fun to drive.

So I start the race, get to the first bend.... now I understand what you are all laughing about re;the brakes. Hit restart with this setup and then won with no problem, Niky, thanks for the suggestion it saved me some work.

a little off topic.....

Do you get the paint chips when you buy one of these? i kinda like that army sand color....

Not sure if they do give you a paint chip but the correct name for it should be dunkengelb if they did!
