bottoming out

I bought a ford mustang (the new redisigned model). I was wondering if anyone can give me any tips to see if my ride height is too low and i'm bottoming out. Also with that same car my wheels are spining all the way to third gear. The only way i can see to fix that is to put the TCS all the way up.

Also on a side note what does everyone think of the soundtrack. I like it, althought the oddly placed James Brown song is kinda weird.

This car has a lot of power, you can turn TCS as high as you can but it’s no use if you can’t control the gas, learn how to drive without the aids and you will get better times.

The ride height must be set in accordance with the springs and suspension, and never be set to the lowest values.

Search in the forum for how to setup you car and you will find a lot of useful tips and guides.

I don't have GT4 yet, but in GT1 and 2 when I was tuning my cars I took them to Trial Mountain to test if the suspension was set too hard or the ride height too low. I knew if I got it to drive ok on the bumpiest track in the game, it would work ok on the others too. I would start out at the hardest and lowest settings, and then try it out, and if the car shook like crazy and wouldn't get up to the highest speed possible, I would raise the ride height a tiny bit or soften the shocks/springs/dampers/etc. a little bit and try again until I got it feeling the way I liked it.

Bumpiest track in GT4 is easily the Nurburging. I find a soft suspension with a slight oversteer bias is best for the Nurburgring.

I'm not sure what symptoms to look for in GT4 when the suspension compresses to the bumpstops. In real life, it generally results in an imediate loss of traction at that end.

I CAN tell you that GT still doesn't react whatsoever when the tires themselves hit the fender.

Not funny, not necessary, not helpful. Take it somewhere else.

Agreed. This is no place for personal insults. There are plenty of online forums where you can treat other members like crap; GTP isn't one of them.

What I remember hearing on the TV news was there's now a certain grace period (don't remember how long) but after that they charge you for the entire purchase price of the game.

sebring is bumpier than the 'ring which btw is designed for sport production cars, which shouldnt have any problem with suspension trouble.

ps if your using the controller pretty much every high horsepower car will need at least 5 in TCS, my cerbera speed 12 i have it on 8, and it still spins till 5th gear... thats what 1100 hp and 1000 ft/lbs of torqe do lol. ill be getting my DFP soon as i finish welding up my cockpit

sebring isnt in the game, nurburgring is a bunch of german roads formed into a track, so hell yes it bumpy lol. i think the record is 11 times airborne in one lap. done in a porsche 908/2..... :dunce:

Haha, then either one (or both) of the following is broken: a) your gas pedal, or b) your brain.

hey, some other people may not think that's funny, but i do :). learn how to drive without traction control on and your times will improve for sure ! hit the gas pedal gradually ! this isn't smokey and the bandit. this is racing 👍, gradual, smooth, and controlled = good times. floor it floor it floor it = bad times. if you are using a PS1 controller shame on you, go buy a DS2 or DFP so u can drive cars in GT4 like they are supposed to be driven ! later dood !

like Mustang_4_eva said, Sebring isn't in the game.:ouch: But it should be. :( Back on topic, you could try putting your new 'Stang on Circuit de la Sarthe I not II to try some high speed braking and cornering.💡 That seems to help me out alot. Also, try toning down the power a bit. I haven't actually driven the new Mustang, don't really care for it.:indiff: Try a Corvette Z06, it's awesome.Toning down the power always helps for 600 HP+ cars. Either that or softer tires. Glad I could help.:)

I got another spring question. When I'm in a turn I notice a slight bouncing movement. Would could be the cause of this?

Your damper is too soft. Try lowering the damper to something like 3-4

Also, which mustang are you talking about? I have one of every 'stang in the game. Say the specific one and I'll post my settings for the car for you to try out.

Also, the Nurburgring is that bumpy in reality. I saw it on google map and followed the track the whole length.

Let me know the mustang you are talking about and I'll try to help you out...thanks :)

Ermac, he said it was the New '05? Mustang.

Sometimes its hard to know if the car is bottoming out or not... Nurburgring is really the best place to test this in GT4, the car will behave really unpredictably and skittish when the suspension bottoms out and upsets the grip levels, making everything become less than smooth, causing a sudden jolt and an over-excentuated fast change of direction/grip levels... Not cool Mr Magoo!

Just ask this guy who bottomed out his pushbike (in a manner of speaking)! http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-162891478515007486

hmmmm...I was thinking of another 'stang

Meh, whatever.:indiff: Were you thinking of the SVT CObra R? Its the Red one. Personally, I would get the Shelby G.T.350, just because that car is INSANE!

lol, the SVT is what I was thinking of, lol....the shelby is ok but to me it sometimes doesn't turn when i need it too, lol

I hear you totally. That's my only drawback withe the G.T.350 :ill:

If his damper's too soft then he has to raise it! 10 is hard and 1 is soft, no argument.

Bound is when the spring is being compressed, rebound is when it is extending. Word is you want rebound a touch harder than bound, but that's probably a personal taste thing.

(...) nurburgring is a bunch of german roads formed into a track, so hell yes it bumpy lol (...)
This has to be corrected, even if I'm a bit late. Nürburgring Nordschleife is not a road course, it's a purposely built race track built in the 1920's to show off the superb German engineering and to make the best race track in the world.

umm, isn't it easy to see bottomoing out 3rd person view, all the sparks flying about 'n such?

Every car sends out sparks. When you jump and land hard the chassis touches the ground.
