Why is it, I am racing a seasonal event, I take the brakes like I normally do and the car just spins out of control instantly....
(200hp event, I'm driving my GTI, didn't have this happen before...tried different balance...no dice..)

ah figured it out.. my abs was off, now the big question....better to learn how to drive with ABS off? And if so...how can you!?! I tap the brakes the car just spins out of control! (using wheel)

Just like when you drive a car in real life, don't mash the pedal when you brake. I don't play with a wheel but when i apply about 75% pressure to the brakes, it's usually enough to bring the car down to speed. Try dong that for awile and if it doesn't work i'm sure someone will be along shortly to give you other advice.

Thats how I drive, but I just find that when its at 1, or 0, even a slight press on the brake yields a sliding back end.

Any good reading for this?

Practice, play with brake balance; try 'tapping' brakes and using downshifting more to slow down; also depends on car and horsepower; play with Limited Slip Differential settings; etc.

ABS off; you have to be extremely sensitive on that brake pedal

p.s. try googling: braking finesse, race car braking..............

I think the term you're looking for is "threshold braking". It's tough enough in a real car without ABS, I'd have no idea how to do it in a game with no brake pedal feedback.

I can accomplish this some times with 'tapping', or 'stabbing' at the brakes; but hard to be consistent; and again depends on the car: NASCAR heavy beast versus super light Lotus for example; I never use ABS with NASCAR on ovals 👍
