Braking habits

how you do brake when you corner?(mostly)

sequence:
1) brake> shift down>gas
2) shift down> brake> gas
3) braking while shifting down>gas
4)shift down> using gas padel and brake padel simultantously>gas
5) all of the above
6) depents on the situration
7) i go by my own style (tell me your way)

If I brake down to the perfect speed, this is what happens before, during, and after the corner:

Brake -> continue braking as I downshift as necessary -> release brakes (usually with light taps to soften the weight transfer) before turn-in -> turn-in -> no throttle, no brake, just coast -> apex -> throttle

The light taps on the brake are about the best digital equivalent of a slower analog release... started developing that habit as I got used to tapping onto the throttle in higher powered RWD cars to avoid wheelspin... ended up helping nicely.

I hit the brake, but let go briefly while down shifting, then back on until next shift. You'd be surprised how well this works.

There is no clutch so taping the gas to rev match wont work, the game does it on its own so its all good forget about "heal toe" shifting, however it feels like I get help from the tranny at the same time it kinda pumps the brakes.

The end result is a controlled slow down with minimal lock up and shorter stopping distances

Brake, shift down, then gas. My typical style of driving. But when it fails, mostly in new york, I tend to.......

6) Depends on the situation:

Mostly its brake and downshift->turn-in and tap brakes if any braking is necessary->apex->gas

Sometimes if I just need to get a weight transfer for a fast corner I tap the brakes without releasing the throttle.

For a low power FF car I sometimes do this:
brakes and downshift->turn-in->gas at apex.

Of course without the clutch -_- Just place upper portion of thumb on brake (Square for me) and lower on accelerate (X)

>brake+Heel and toe(with shift down)>e-brake>counter steer>accelerate then switch. If you drift on this game you would know what i mean.

You cant heal toe in GTPSP because there is no Clutch, heal toe is for rev matching & can only be done with a clutch.

The heal is supposed to bleep the throttle to rev match while your braking/downshifting for a corner.

In GTPSP with NO CLUTCH, the throttle ALWAYS accelerates the car, even if your pressing the throttle & brake at the same time it's not rev matching. your just apposing the acceleration by braking. Get in an automatic car and press the throttle and brakes at the same time THAT is what your doing, and This isn't close to "heal toe" You simply CANT bleep the throttle to get the revs up for the next downshift if you don't have your foot pressing on a clutch.

While downshifts actually do give you some tranny braking. So letting off the gas for the split sec it takes you to hit the downshift button can be useful and is as close to heal toe as you can get in GTPSP, that is NOT AT ALL.

I just tried doing the heel-toe again in GTPSP and it actually works.. I did it on manual transmission cars.

Btw, HEAL is different from HEEL.
And BLEEP is also different from BLIP. :)

Oh and if you really insist on heel-toe being impossible in GTPSP, I respect what you say.

OMG a misspelling <O_o> Soo sorry, English is not the only language I speak....

Unfortunately this might be something that wont be understood by everybody who has never done any "heel toe" shifting in a real car.

Its IMPOSSIBLE in GTPSP, for reasons Vee can't or wont comprehend.......

Hell, Vee, I don't think you understand what Heal (hahahahah) oh yeah "Heel" Toe shifting is or why its even done, beyond slowing the car down.....

Sure, you're so good at it I don't even care what you say.

I bet your looking it up online RIGHT NOW!!!!!!! lol

Yeah, that's what I though.........

Me, I'm too busy tuning the gear rations for my Cars in GTPSP & giving them more powerful engines....

Okay, I see.

Believe me, when You got a 900+hp R34 that hits retarded speeds in the straights, you neeeeed to have your braking techniques down. Ive built cars that are fast. I have a few cars that will smoke the F2007. That's harder to do then it sounds without getting ridiculous on the horsepower.

Its not that holding the brakes and tapping the gas wont slow you down (its only a tap of the gas) your still holding the brakes for the most part. The question is does it slow you down at a higher rate then when you don't tap the gas, and taping the gas ALWAYS reduces the rate of deceleration, & doesn't increase it. If you want to really see for yourself, go to the Test Track and do some braking test.
