That's right people. The 2008 Season didn't even finished (two races to go, Tarumã and Interlagos), and a lot of announcements have been made for 2009.

The big one is the new car, showed to the press today, features lots of significant changes from the one been used for the last 8 years.

Developed by the Brazilian engineer Gustavo Lehto from JL (formet ZF Racing) and Italian engineer Nicola Scimeca (ex-Dallara), the new chassis was created thinking mostly on improving security, technology and low cost, making the Stock Car Championship more modern.

The chassis has, on it's majority, noble materials, such as carbon fiber, magnesium and aluminum, lowering the total weight of the car on 50Kg. Other new items are the new Xtrac clutch, imported from England and installed on the back, and the new OZ wheels, fast cube, that will make changing tyres easier during the races.

On security, the drivers will have a aluminum seat with head protection, the same being used on Nascar. The drivers position will be more central, with the sides being filled with impact absorption materials ( This was planned after the death of Rafael Sperafico, on the last round of 2007 Vicar Cup).

Both the front and back parts of th cars will have a crash box made of carbon fiber, to protect and lower the impact of crashes. The Gas tank, protected by a aluminum case will be inside the car, beside the driver, improving the weight distribution.

To end, in case of accident, the car can be opened by the roof, making easier for the medics to remove the driver's helmet and making imobilization easier as well.

X-Ray of the car:

Model: JL G-09

Chassis: tubular, made of molybdenum without sewing

Carroceria: Carbon fiber

Wheels: OZ, imported from Italy, 18'

Clutch, Xtrac, imported from England, six gears

Differential: Xtrac, imported from England

Brake Clamps: AP Racing, imported from England

Brake Disc: Fremax

Clamps: Ecopads

Engine HP: 480HP

Torque: 63 kgf/m

Tyres: Goodyear, slick radials, with 25,5 x 10,5'

I guess by the look of the new car, JohnBM01 can now call it Brazilian DTM.

Other news

- Brazilian driver Max Wilson, that have been driving in Aussie's V8 Supercars will race at the Nextel Cup next year.

- Conversations already started for a International race, already in 2009. Estoril and the new Algarves circuit, both in Portugal were visited by Carlos Col (Stock Car owner / organizer). Plus the French government wants a race on Le Mans!

- Also, two new circuits will receive the Stock Car next year. Velopark, a new track built on South of Brazil and Salvador, Bahia. On this it will be a street course.

- On 2010, the cars will start to use Brazilian Ethanol as fuel.

- Peugeot is confirmed to continue, with the 307 Sedan. Still the car will look a lot different with the new chassis and regulations. No word on Mitsubishi yet, or a new model on the championship.

- British driver Stuart Turvey (FIA GT3, British GT, Britcar,... ) tested a Brazilian V8 Stock Car on October 16th 2008. He tested a Chevrolet Astra Sedan from HotCar Competition, that races on Vicar Cup. He is set to compete in the final race of the season, on December 7th at Interlagos. There are rumours that he already signed with a team to race the full 2009 Vicar Cup season.

You called, Johnny? :D The new car looks great. I always wondered what would happen if we had such a supertouring series like the Australian V8 Supercar Series here in the States. What cars would be used? How would they look? Anyhow, this is a nice series. You know that I have full respect for you and the Brazilian Stock Car series (which I've lovingly called "BTM"). Pretty sure next season will be a lovely one with great cars like these.

What's the Portugese translation of "Car of Tomorrow"?

"Carro do Amanhã"

By the way, remember i said there was a possibility for a race in Le Mans? No news about that, as it seems to be just talks for now. But check the Le Mans website 2009 calendar

An international event to be designated

:dopey:

Still nothing confirmed yet (i actually heard that a race in Estoril or Algarves will be more probable.

I think if anything, maybe it would be interesting to see some inter-promotional racing. Like...

* Brazilian Stock Car vs. DTM
* Brazilian Stock Car vs. Australian V8 Supercars

...or maybe even take on the 24 Hours at the Nürburgring. Or how much would this series want to try to market itself? I say any fan of DTM or Aussie V8s should check out Brazilian Stock Car.

As far as a past comment went, someone noted that the Pontiac G8 would be cool for our own Supertouring road racing series (not the fail that was the NATCC in 1998 or 1997), but a DTM-style road racing series. There are Lancers in Brazilian Stock Car, and the Lancer is 4WD. I think I even seen some Peugeots in this series as well. If ever there was a proper series, there would have to be some of the best American or American-sold sedans. Only that these racing versions would be exclusively front/RWD. So they'd have to be like the latest Malibu, the Fusion, your choice of the Avenger and Charger, Camry, and cars like that.

Keep the news coming, Johnny. Great series.

Funny you mention that inter-promotional event.

From what i'm reading, that is the plan of ACO. Not series vs. series, but an event with lots of races.

Again, nothing confirmed.

My money is on a DTM Round for that weekend. :idea:Though a "Supercar Weekend" involving those series wouldn't be a bad idea either.;)

I'd say 'I believe we have something like that in the SPEED World Challenge GT Series', but I think that's a different kettle of fish altogether.:embarrassed: Still it would be cool to see a Supercar-styled series for the US and Canada.:)

I heard a rumour that the "international race" will be on October 4th 2009, on the new Algarves Motorsport Park, in Portugal.

It would be the preliminary race for the GP2 series.

So this "international race" will involve some of the Brazilian stock car teams? Who are some of the star racers and teams in Brazilian Stock Car? Like how NASCAR has stars like Jimmie Johnson and Carl Edwards...

Well, i know that the plan is to take all cars and drivers.

Unfortunately, it seems this will be the final season of the superchampion Ingo Hoffmann.

The 2008 Season will be decided on Interlagos (final race). Ricardo Maurício has 286 points and Marcos Gomes, 285. Yes, it's close. :dopey:

Best teams?

Medley/A.Mattheis, Eurofarma RC, Vogel Motorspot, WA Mattheis.

Best drivers?

Ricardo Maurício, Thiago Camilo, Marcos Gomes, Cacá Bueno, Valdeno Brito and Giuliano Losacco

So in a sense, they'll be racing with a tiger in their tank. Right?:sly:

And will Mobil be the primary sponsor of the #1 car?

As for the number #1 car, i don't know. That would be a good idea.

Still, all drivers have their numbers, but the champion decides if they want to use the #1.

The previous champion, Cacá Bueno, never used the #1 after he won two championship. He keeps the #0

And i heard Ricardo Maurício, 2008 champion, will keep his number #90

Not so great news...

Not yet confirmed, but Mitsubishi is out of the Nextel Cup.

According to the rumours, it's because (guess what?!) the economic crisis.

Probably they'll keep the L200 on the Webmotors Pickup Racing Championship.

For now, only Chevrolet and Peugeot are going to race on the Nextel Cup.

Intersting, but I don't think the idea would stick. Brazilian stock cars, DTM and the V8 Supercars are all built along different lines, and so there's likely to be differences in performance. You'd be like to get one series completely dominating the other. The only thing I can think of is putting all the drivers in a Brzailian stock car and racing aroud a bit, and then putting them all in V8 Supercars and doing the same. And just to make things interesting, run all the races in the Brazilian cars on Australian circuit and all the races in Australian cars on Brazilian circuits (hopefully that would negate the advantages associated with racing at home a little).

Eurorfarma - RC Competições presentation.

The champion team of 2006 and 2007 (with driver Cacá Bueno) presented the 2009 car and it's new driver lineup.

Ricardo Maurício, who just won the 2008 Championship, left Team WA Mattheis and joined Eurofarma RC.

Max Wilson, who has been driving on Australian V8 Supercars, is back after 12 years withouth racing in his home country.

The team will race with the Chevrolet Vectra

-

The rumours about Barrichello signing with Vogel Motorsport are getting bigger...

#0 Cacá Bueno (2006 and 2007 Champion) left Eurofarma-RC and joined RBR. #29 Daniel Serra, continue on the team where he's been driving since 2007.

Johnny, a little question... how is Brazil and Brazilian V8 Stock Car fairing in this tough economy? Have tracks been sacrificed or had changes to overall testing and racing?

(OFF-TOPIC) By the way, Johnny I made a little reference to you in one of my most recent YouTube videos. Listen around 2:06 to 2:21 clicking on this video link:

Brazil is actually not facing much problem on this economic crisis. Car sales are on the rise again.

Still most multinational companies are doing some layoffs

On the championship:

Mitsubishi left (Continues on Pickup Racing with the old L200).

Velopark track won't be finished this year (So, they'll have to race at Tarumã)

Sponsorship is an issue, making the 32 seats of the Nextel Cup still not all taken.

As for testing, they are limited by Vicar (organizer). There was going to have two days of free practice last week, but Vicar cancelled it due to not all teams have finished getting sponsors and drivers contracts.

Is pratically confirmed that the British driver Stuart Turvey will participate on the VICAR Cup ( access series, that will continue to use the 2008 cars ).

The Stock Car Brazil love from me continues. "John Talks Stock Car Brazil" here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SrYxeVAlAO0

Have a look! This is an effort to try to educate people a bit more on Stock Car Brazil and the four classes that compete in this series (Copa Nextel, Copa Vicar, Pickup Racing, and Stock Jr.). Of course, you can see the related videos (you know, before most of the "how the hell did this get there?" Related Videos) to learn more and see more Stock Car Brazil action. I got some YouTube fans from Brazil, so I hope this makes me a little more popular in South America's largest country. :D
