BreakbeatMusic

This has always been one of my favourite genres. Usually I rate Breakbeat above most of the other types of electronic music which I also enjoy. My playlist says it all really.

Also, I can't post here and not mention Hybrid:

These can tecnically go in the dubstep and Drum and Bass thread....

The General Iron Maiden Thread could, technically, go in the metal thread. You're not a mod, why do you even care ?

Also to call any of these dubstep or d&b would be a stretch, except for maybe the Skream one.

Some of my favorites. I should inspect my music collection more for some gems.

Iron Maiden is a band with a huge fanbase. They deserve their own thread. As for EDM genres, if we were to create a thread for all of them, we'd have a million threads from liquid to jungle to Garage. Also, the breakbeat videos posted so far sound (at least a bit) like Jungle and DnB, The Prodigy, and some sound like UK Garage, so putting them in those respective threads would be appropriate.

As for why I care, is because it would be easier for people to look for what they want. Breakbeat isn't as much of a genre, as it is a style.

For example. This is breakbeat:

So is this:

And this:

and this:

I'm not trying to be a 🤬 here, but I'm just saying, its very broad, and kinda cannibalizes other threads.

I can sort of see where you're coming from. The tracks you posted are closer to D&B, Trap, Garage and whatever that last one is, i.e. they use breakbeats but the use of them isn't what defines the tracks themselves.

What would you say the Evil Nine track is then ? It certainly isn't dubstep, d&b or trap. It's what I intended the thread to be about; tracks that use breakbeats but aren't dubstep etc.

Also the other threads hardly ever get posted in anyway so I don't feel as though it's detracting from them.

So I guess we shall call a song that doesn't fall into any breakbeat category just simply breakbeat? Sounds good. I see what you mean by your Evil Nine point, and I quite frankly can't think of any genre. UK Garage, maybe but still no. Oh well, I'll contribute to this thread after all my troubles. I present you:

My Current Alarm Tune. Smashing.

1. Drum and Bass
2. Trap
3. Hardcore - this, only of the videos you've posted would fall under breakbeat category
4. Hip hop

when you say breakbeat, i'd imagine stuff like this

I agree with the first 3. The last one is a bit tricky, but it sounds more like downtempo Dubstep with a bit of R&B thrown in.

These tracks are a more clear example of Breakbeat, although they tend to share elements from other closely related styles like D&B and Big Beat:

that's totally irrelevant to the matter. by that logic 70 percent of modern music is breakbeat, because it contains a sampled drum hit.

where are the breaks in the second tune you posted btw, i can't hear any?
