GTPlanet, time to get your race on!
I'd like to present this thread as a year-long look at the Bridgestone Presents the Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford's 2004 season. Newest addition to the series is the "Push to pass" system, which allows up to 60 seconds of boost for an added boost in horsepower. But you have up to 60 seconds available. It is like having three timeouts in American football for a certain half (college and NFL football). So, come on in to get your Champ Car fix.
I'll start with a simple report.

R1 - Toyota GP of Long Beach
Weather: Mostly Sunny, with clouds
Location: Long Beach, California, USA

It seemed like Bruno Junquiera was on pole for the 2004 Season of the OWRS-owned Champ Car Series. A turn one indicident took out three drivers, but the most notable of the ones involved in the accident was CART veteran Jimmy Vasser. Others include Tarso Marques and Sperafico. Paul Tracy led most of the way, all the way to a victory, and the first victory of the 2004 Season for the more than 10+ year veteran and defending chmapion, Paul Tracy.
The most surprising thing about this is that Spike TV will be showing the races. So we'll have to put up with male-oriented, sometimes chauvanistic material (if you are offended by this sort of thing, that is). The most disappointing aspect is Bob Jenkins calling the races. Yet another American braodcaster that cannot pronounce names effectively... ho hum. Looks like Bob Varsha or Leigh Diffey would have been better assets. But since Spike is an all-American network (even though acquiring Champ Car is not a bad asset at all), some may like the coverage, some may not.
Round 2 of Champ Car can be seen at 4PM Eastern from Laguna Seca on Sunday, May 23rd. But to me, the Laguna Seca race isn't the same anymore. I remember in 1999 and 2000 with all the different engine manufacturers, then Juan Pablo Montoya, Michael Andretti, Tony Kannan, Dario Franchitti, all them. And the race was run around September. But the next race is... next month. See you then!
