Hello!

Based on this thread, right here (https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/your-real-life-car-in-gran-turismo-6.292707/) I've decided to open up a time attack challenge for GTPlanet users to test their own, real life cars against the clock.

How well can you drive your real life car? How well does it perform?

Rules:
  • You may only use your real life car - the car you drive in real life.
  • If asked, you must provide proof that it is actually your car... No exceptions
  • If you own a Lamborghini, or another expensive car, you'd better see the step above.
  • You may only do modifications that you have fitted to your real life car
  • You may only use Driver Aids that are equipped to your car - SRF disallowed
  • Your cars should be broken in
  • You may only use the type of tire fitted to your real life car.
  • Run 5 laps at GT Arena Layout A forwards
  • Then run a lap of Nürburgring Nordschleife
  • Post your lap times, with information about car and parts
Tires:

You may use the following guide to match the tire on your car to the in-game tires:

Winter tires: Comfort Hard

2005 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS Sport Wagon (custom replica)

Real life:

  • Continental ExtremeContactDW
  • 22mm Perrin rear sway bar
  • Whiteline 22mm rear sway bar bushings, bushing mounts, and endlinks
  • Tsudo N1 cat-back exhaust
  • -1.8 degrees front camber, -1.9 degrees rear camber
  • 173 hp
  • 4WD
GT6: (using 2001 Subaru Impreza WRX STi Sport Wagon as the base for replica)

  • Sports hard
  • 173 hp (detuned)
  • 4WD
  • Roll bar: 3F/5R

Times:

  • GT Arena: 0:31.000
  • Nürburgring Nordschleife: 8:43.842
  • Total: 9:14.842

Sounds like fun, the game lacks a Chevy Tahoe.. so is my Skip Barber MX-5 alright?

Yes, actually. We have documented proof that the Skip Barber MX-5 is actually the car you drive. Now, go do the best replica you can - and remember that you still use street tires on the S.B. MX-5. :P My Impreza might actually be fewer than 30 seconds slower.

I'll do my best to join you on this, looks like fun. I can nearly exactly replicate one of my autocross cars ('68 Beetle), and can actually use the RUF BTR with power set to 50% to come very close to replicating another autocross car (see avatar at left). Unfortunately I will be unable to replicate the car I now use most in Autocross as there is no way to reduce the power of the BTR to the appropriate level (It's a Porsche 912E, basically the "poor man's 911" - a 911 Chassis with a little VW-based 4-banger in the back and a vinyl interior).

That will be great fun. :) As I said, for my own car, I also needed to limit HP to replicate my own car. Taking a car down from 276 hp to 173 hp does make quite a difference in performance, but I don't want to compare what my car would be against what someone else's car would be. Feel free to try - as much as possible - to match the suspension, brakes, gearboxes, etc. that you have between real life and in-game as well. It's a simulator, after all, so it's basically a virtual reality. :)

I've got an RX8 R3. Gutted that there are 50 rx7s but not my rx8 :grumpy:

I've taken the '07 RX and fitted inch up 2 alloys and sports hard as I've got some fairly grippy summer rubber on it. But the hard sport suspension on it as it has bilstein shocks on it. It's had a k&n induction kit and a decat so have put the intake kit and sport cat on it too.

At work at the most, but will post a PIC of my car and times etc when I do this this evening

My real life car is a 1989 Toyota MR2 Supercharged. They don't have an 89 but there is an 86. I added the sports exhaust and catalytic converter as my car has a headers back exhaust system. I had to add 60kg ballast to bring the weight up (the later model had power options, increasing weight). Using sports hard tires (probably should use comfort soft as mine are bald).

GT Arena (Layout A):
Lap 1 - 34.821
Lap 2 - 34.149
Lap 3 - 34.708
Lap 4 - 33.673
Lap 5 - 34.610
Average - 34.392

Im going to do Nürburgring Nordschleife after dinner. How is everyone doing the time on this? Best of 5? Only run one lap and post it?

Real life: 2012 Ford Focus Titanium
  • BFGoodrich g-Force Sport COMP II's
  • Magnaflow Cat-back Exhaust
  • Steeda Cold Air Intake
  • 170-ish horsepower (could be more since guys have dyno'ed cars with a similar setup as mine anywhere from 170-190hp).
GT6: (using 2013 Ford Focus ST as Base)
  • Sports hard
  • Sports Exhaust
  • Intake Tuning
  • 170 hp (detuned)
  • Stage 1 weight reduction then ballast added to make 1,395kg (the approx weight of the Titanium)
  • Ballast moved forward to make a 56/44 weight distribution (real car is closer to 58/42 but I couldn't get that)
Times:
  • GT Arena:
    • 33.348
    • 32.815
    • 34.332
    • 33.553
    • 32.321
  • Nurburgring
    • 9:14.612
Total: 32.321 + 9:14.612 = 9:46.933

And just for kicks I ran my virtual counterpart in "winter mode" using comfort hards to simulate winter tires.
  • GT Arena:
    • 37.335
    • 36.830
    • 36.529
    • 37.613
    • 35.526
  • Nurburgring
    • 9:36.956
Now if I only could find a way to simulate the Neon, the SRT-4 and PT are to different to really get anything accurate.

This is really interesting. I'll have to give it a shot.

Off-topic question for the OP: How do those Continentals treat you? I'm torn between those and the DWS for my next set.

My real life car is a Ford Mustang V6 Deluxe Coupe '08, but since a V6 is not present in the game, a detuned Mustang V8 Premium will have to do.

Ford Mustang "V6" V8 GT Coupe Premium '07

SPECIFICATIONS:

Weight: 3300 lbs - 1497 kg
Horsepower: 210 HP
Length: 187.6 in - 4765 mm (Same as GT6)
Performance tires (Sports Hard)

TIMES:

GT Arena: 32.997
Nurburgring: 8:38.489
Total: 9:11.486

I absolutely love them. I mean, there are faster tires, and there are tires that will wear (longevity) better...

But they are the best all-around package I've ever heard/felt (for comfort) while still being good with track use.

Personal review:

Comfort: 9/10 (the strong suit)
Wet grip: 8.5/10 (surprising)
Dry grip: 7/10 (could be better)
Snow grip: 3/10 with AWD...

@Joey D, nice! If I didn't have the Conti tires, I'd probably be below the 10 minute mark, so don't feel too bad. To be honest, my 31 second lap was after* running some test laps for settings for coilovers... I'm sooo going to get coilovers in the summer, if I can afford them.

Edit: @MustangCobra95 on top of the leaderboard now. My time on top was shortlived.

Real life: 2006 Acura RSX Type-S
  • MB Drifter 17x7 / Cooper Zeon ZPT 225-45-17
  • Function And Form Type II Coilovers 8K/10K
  • Greddy Evo II Catback 2.5 Inch
  • Injen Cold Air Intake
  • Comptech Race Header
  • Dyno'd at 201WHP using a Dynocom with Eddy Brake.
Roughly comes out to 234BHP http://www.mk5cortinaestate.co.uk/calculator4.php

GT6: (using 2004 Honda Integra Type-R as Base)
  • Comfort Medium
  • Sports Exhaust
  • Isometric Exhaust Manifold
  • 234HP
Times:
  • GT Arena:
    • 34.489
  • Nurburgring
    • 8:49.387
Total: 34.489 + 8:49.387 = 9:23.876

About as accurate as GT6 would let me go appearance wise.

First off, what a cool idea for a Time Trial event! My own personal car is a bone stock '09 Chevrolet Malibu with all-season tires; so I had to find a proxy in-game, a front wheel-drive family sedan with similar power. I eventually settled on the '07 Mazda Atenza (6) Sport 252 as fitting the bill best.

  • Comfort Medium Tires
  • 176 HP (with virgin Oil Change)
  • 1470 KG = 3241 LB
Managed the GT arena with Lap 3 being my best at 0:34:727, while I was able to lap the Nurburgring in 9:38.722 for a combined time of 10:13.449. I knew I wouldn't pose any threat of breaking lap records going in with my ride, but driving the Mazda 6 through this challenge was very similar to driving my Malibu up Pikes Peak and the Tail of the Dragon, it's genuinely fun to take a slower car and hustle it through a challenging road.

Real life:

Times
Nürburgring Nordschleife: 7:27.474 (cold first try no warm up lap)
GT Arena: 0:28.64 (crazy oversteer and tire squeal) 29.0 average on 5 laps

total time 7:56.11

I like it! But, @MCNAGTROC, could you post a picture of your beautiful GT-R with your username on a sheet of paper, please? For something like a GT-R, we'd like to see the proof because not just anybody can actually afford one, and lots of people like to pretend.

If you can prove it, more power to you, you're on top of the leaderboard. :)

@JackRyanWMU, it's not important to be the fastest. Enjoyment is the goal for this.

If this is still relevant in a couple of months, I wanna see how my car does with the upgrades I have in store. >.>

Also, I live in California, so I'm mainly worried about tire wear for the Continentals. I can't seem to get any straight answers on how long they should last >.<

Depends on your driving. I could* go through them in a matter of minutes, or I could make them last for four years.

*it's all about whether you drift or not... And how many track days you attend.

Opel Omega/Vauxhall Carlton 2.0i

GT6 equvalent: Lotus Carlton

Modifications:
"home made" turbo setup @ 0.7 Bar (Put on low pressure turbo)
New exhaust (did not put this on, as the Lotus already has a similar one)
Lower springs (again, not put on as the Lotus has almost the same)
Small rear wing (Lotus has a similar one installed)
Bigger brakes (Lotus has the same)
Limited slip differential (Lotus has the same)

Detuned the Lotus as far as it went, leaving 206 BHP. My car had an estimated 180 BHP+, so I won't consider it too far off. I also threw out some weight, as the Lotus weighs almost 300 KG more than my basic model.

I also bought an adjustable transmission, since the ratios were off. Adjusted to the 5 speed I had in the car, tops out at 220 km/h.

I ran on Sport Hards, as they are almost identical as the tires I used to drive with.

GT Arena times:
33.723
33.546
33.004
32.621
32.537

Nurburgring time:
8:36.576

Total Time:
9:09.113

Second place! :)

Also, since the Lotus Carlton and its rebadged brethren are among my favourite cars, I would love to see that car! Please post a picture if you have one! :)

Well, it's rather the Lotus that used the base of an Omega/Carlton when GM told them to make vauxhall known again. I only have one picture of it unfortunatley, and I won't be able to get any more since I've sold the car by now. Was a mighty fun car though. I couldn't replicate the turbo lag either on GT6, since I needed to keep the HP down. On the RL car, the turbo wouldn't kick in until about 3-4k RPM.

Edit: Oh, and disregard the 1.8i badge, I basically put it on to fool people. Look at it and you will see that the 1.8i isn't an original badge what so ever.

 Sneaky sneaky, you must surprise some people. 👍

There was one time when I was waiting at a traffic light, when a Renault Laguna station wagon was beside me. I saw that he wanted a bit of fun, so I was happy to oblige. When the light turned green, he kept up with me through 1st gear, since the turbo didnt have time to properly kick in. Then a shift to 2nd, and away I went. He followed me until I got to the highway, then I just got over to the left lane, and motor'ed away. Quite fun those turbos. I have already decided that I want one in whatever car I will buy next.

:P I'm slightly biased, but Impreza WRX wagons are good cars. Anything with WRX or STi will have a turbo. And, if it's a GC8 2.5RS, it may have a turbo.

My friends boss had a white STi (the same body as the 22b, but not a 22b if I remember correctly). He had it tuned up to 550 ish HP, and man that goes like hell. And the good ol' boxer sound from STis are just to love.
