Are you kidding?
Which teams do you think should be in the btcc, but aren't also, which cars do you think they should run? I vote for Mazda Running the RX8 or the Mazda3:drool:.

Wasn't Nissan in it with the 'Primera' a couple years back?

I'd like to see Skôda give it a shot with their Fabia, or maybe even the Octavia. As much as I like them being in the WRC, I can't see much of a future for them in the rally scene.

The RX-8 would not be an option, because of it's rotary engine. It would be nice to have some RWD's in the main class again though. In 2001 they had an IS200 which didn't do too badly. The Mazda 6 would be nice though, although Ford might want to run the new mondeo instead. Skoda would most likely use the Octavia (Isn't that the saloon? in WRC?) but I doubt they'd enter.

The Primera seriously owned for a few years and then they changed the reg's and nissan dropped out.

All the original super touring teams again, would be nice.
E.g:
Alfa Rome,
Volvo,
Nissan,
Ford,
Honda,
BMW,
Vauxhall (still in there)
Pergeout (still in there)
Lexus (even though they were in there in 2000)
Renault and I can't think of any more. :)

Volvo first entered the BTCC in 1994, with one aim: To win the championship within three years. This proved to be a little optimistic, taking a further two years than anticipated to realise their aims. Tom Walkinshaw's firm TWR were recruited to run the team, with drivers Rickard Rydell and Jan Lammers piloting the rather unusual choice of the Volvo 850 estate. The Volvos were only just ready in time for the first race of the season and consequently the 24 strong team, with little 2-litre touring class racing experience, had no time in which to test and shakedown the cars prior to racing. After an unremarkable first season the saloon variant of the 850 range was chosen for the start of the 1995 championship, with '92 champion Tim Harvey replacing Jan Lammers. Unlike '94 the team put in more pre-season testing than anyone else and were fully prepared by the start of the '95 season. Rickard Rydell showed the new cars potential from the start of the season by taking pole position in the first two races at Donington Park. After finishing fourth in the first race, Rydell gave Volvo their first win in race two with Tim Harvey coming in third. The '95 season was a huge success for the Volvo team with both drivers doing well, Rydell finally finishing the championship in a creditable third place.

lol.

wee_man's list is quite complete, except he's missing Toyota, who were also sponsored by Securicor Omega, and had the ignominious distinction of their drivers taking each other off whilst running 1-2, and heading for the marque's first BTCC victory. I don't think they ever quite go over that.

Lancia pulled out of the UK because their cars were all either rubbish or unreliable (in which case they were rubbish anyway).

wee_man Honda are already in the BTCC :)

Most companies could and should enter the BTCC! as the series next year will be letting in ETCC cars which already has BMW's, Alfa's, Volvo's a few Seats and some CTR's so it's looking good for next year!

Apperently there is also talk of a privateer team entering that very Lexus IS200 that Eurdos used to drive back into the BTCC next year!

GO MG!!

Yep my bad I forgot to mention Honda are still in there. I also missed out Audi (who ran the A4 which went like stink) and I'd also maybe like to see Mercedes as well come over from Germany. That'd be kool. And yea I forgot Toyota. I think wasn't it the early 90's they ran and quite well as well with James Kaye :) .
Exige Excel: I think that was Matt Neal who ran the Primera I think you're talking about. He sure did scare some of the works teams.
WELZ: I soo hope that's true. That Lexus I thought was the best looking and meanest car on the 2001 grid. Shame it didn't stay. I think it had potential.
Also I think the BTCC needs some more manufacturers to come into it if they are going to want to fend off the new rivalseries next year which looks like it should be good. The SCV8 championship.
I heard rumors some where that MG were pulling out of the BTTC and switching to the SCV8 funnily enough. Can anyone back these up?
And the Volvo's...What came over them to have the idea of 'hmm I know, for the BTCC the best car for the job is a hurse. Yes that's it we'll block the road and then no one can get buy, HA HA HA HA (laughs evily)'.

LoL well as i work for MG Rover, all i know is that we are going to be entering the BTCC next year as it had a massive following and has improved sales of our cars. To be honest i think that rumour is aload of bull***t but you never know! :D

👍
That's good to hear.
Then can you tell me why they pulled the plug on the LMP 675 project at Le Mans. Only two years they ran that. And after the second year they looked like they could possibly win out right with the pace of the car?

Im guessing it was far too expensive and as the company is still in debt they would probably rather put the money into developing new production cars. However privateers are still running the cars in the ALMS and Le Mans!

It was because MG and Lola couldn't get on. MG wanted Lola to do all the work, but weren't prepared to put in any money, or any time trying to get sponsorship. It all imploded in about September last year, if memory serves.

This is such an unrealistic idea, but imagine Nissan entering a Skyline into the BTCC...... but i agree with the SuperTouring makes should come back. BMW 3series was a good runner.

If welz2002 is still here, the MG 385 sounds nice...

If he isn't, it sucks.

Lol only joking

Its a MG ZT with a ford V8. It has roughly 385BHP and should be out sometime next year if all goes to plan. Only prototype models have been made so far, but all looks good (and sounds  )
