Not like we didnt know it was going to happen:

Volkswagen has increased yearly production of its Bugatti Veyron supercar from 50 cars to 70, due to increased demand, reports Automobilwoche. U.S. customers have also reportedly pushed for earlier delivery. A total of about 300 Veyrons are expected to be built. A Volkswagen source also said that boss Bernd Pischetsrieder is likely to approve a smaller Bugatti model with about 300 horsepower, as well as an immediate successor to the Veyron once production is complete.

I'm interested in the sub-Veyron model. Is it going to be related to the R8 or Gallarado as well?

At 300hp I wouldn't think so; perhaps VW's Boxster-sized MR concept will be put into production, and there'll be a Bug version?

I would think it would have to have 400hp to be related to the Gallardo, but not sure on the stats of the Audi.

This is no surprise though.
Many places are offering Veyrons on faster waiting lists for a bout a $1 million over the MSRP.

I like the sound of the smaller car.

While it won't be an absolute rocket, but I'd love to see Bugatti return to manufacturing in the future.

Maybe this is the car for them to mass-market?

The mini-Veyron must be using the new 3.6L VR6. The cars do have to make somewhat of a profit, so the smaller engine and overall smaller car are there just to make money. Hey, if they can match a 911's performance with a V6, I'm sure they will sell plenty of models.

I think Murcielago matching power would be a better use of Bugattis time and effort.

LOL VAG dont know what to do with bugatti because any3where under the veyron and they will be competing against themselves.

Doubt we will see a 300hp bugatti.

I reckon it'll probably be a large 2+2 GT if they make another car, something top highlight the luxury.

I'd love to know what speeds they'll expect from the 'next veyron'.

I fail to see the point of this, with the the Audi R8 is coming and VAG also owning Lamborghini. I though they'd get a clue from great ideas such as bringing VWs in Audi territory...

Since when did cannibalism become a good business strategy?

Toyota's about to take the #1 spot... with Toyota, Lexus, Scion and Daihatsu. Bizzarely, there's not much overlapping in their respective product ranges. Perhaps other should start taking notes...

Keep in mind its not the next Veyron that will have 300HP, its their baisic model that will be the money maker. The next Veyron will likely be an evolution of the current model, not something brand new.

I know, I'm just wondering why the heck they don't do it as a Lamborghini. Bugatti's image is built on ultra high-end supercars, not 300HP sports car.

I agree with the ultra high-end part, supercar. Not really. Sure they have made supercars, look at the EB110, but the Bugatti's that made the name for the company were big luxury tourers. I think the next Bugatti should be aimed at Bentley buyers.

a 300hp small sportscar would make a lot of sense...

VAG has invested tons of money in the bugatti brand, a small sportscar could sell on the pedigree and would not compete against lamborghini.

I read Audi is supposed to be making a small sports car as well. From a business sense, and right now Bugatti need a car that will make money. Bugattit didn't losea penny from the Veyron, but VAG did, and now the Veyron is out and has set the standard for Bugatti's quality, Bugatti need to start reaping the benefits of that. From the point of view of a Bugatti fan Bugatti have always aimed at prestige and the top bracket of whatever segment they're going for, so a cheap Bugatti goes against the grain. But, and this is a big but, building top level super expensive cars and nothing but top level super expensive cars has seen the brand dissapear, twice.

Perhaps I should have mentioned the touring cars too, but Bugatti had several road cars derived from succesful race cars. Besides technology, racing is what made Bugatti famous in the first place...

Even if they did something ala Audi TTRS with double the lux and double the good looks, they could probably turn a good profit. Of course, having a $40-60K car based on a Golf may not be the best idea, but Audi has been able to move plenty of TT's and A4s built on the same platform.

I'm much more interested in the Veyron replacement. The old one is a huge loss in economic terms, so I'm confused as to why the would want to build another one.

On the other hand, I can't wait to see what they will do with it. As if a quad turbo 16 cylinder engine wasn't powerful enough...

A4's are on a seperate platform.

Then it was the A4 that was related to the Passat, but now that has changed, no?
...(I mean, the Passat to MKV pieces)

AFAIK, yes, the A4 was related to the previous-gen Passat, though now all the core VW models (at least over here in North America) are based on the same basic platform.

The only way I see a 300hp Bugatti making sense is if it's some sort of ultra-fast Elise with a "minimalist luxury" interior. At that power level, a smooth GT just wouldn't make sense, and I don't see something in the TT/350Z/M3 class coming from Bugatti either, as that's too downmarket for them.

No, they built the Veyron as a technical project and to re-launch the Bugatti brand. They spent over $1.5 billion on Veyron development, it's more than just on a technical project, it's setting the standard for Bugatti's built within VAG.
