The Calsonic GTR definately wouldn't be Gr.4. It's far too modified, built for JGTC regs. If anything it would technically be Gr.2 (Which appears to be solely SuperGT machines, of which JGTC preceded), but it's age would mean it'd get minced by the others.

Not really. It was built for Group A, a couple years before JGTC existed. Group A were production based cars. Then it raced in JTCC and JGTCC which became inaugural JGTC. Upgrades made along the way, but it was still a glorified R32 road car with 550hp.

As a production based racer it would fit best in Gr.4, except it’s way behind in Aero. So we would have yet another top-speed-only Meta like all the other groups have.

This is the proper “JGTC” Calsonic R32 as it was. Which oddly enough, is very similar to the R32 Race Mod from GT5:

Even this couldn’t be hamfisted into Gr.2 because as you said, it’s way too slow. Gr.3 would work.

I never got to play Midfield on GT6 so I hope it makes a return. It's a shame it wasn't available on GT Sport at launch, but then again nothing was.

There are a plethora of cars I'd love to see added, but I mostly prefer Gr.3 and especially Gr.4 and it isn't as if those will be improved with the addition of more vehicles to upset the balance. That being said.... here's a list of Gr.3 and Gr.4 machinery that will absolutely upset the balance.

Snaeper's Improbable Content Pack of DOOOOOM!
  • Porsche GT3 Cup [Gr.4] - This is the most prolific racing machine ever made and is responsible for putting thousands of butts in the seat of racing cars. I daresay it's the most quintessential GT machine on the planet and any version should be enshrined in the annals of Gran Turismo
  • Subaru BRZ GT300 [Gr.3] - I'm going to agree with Noisy on this one. It'd be nice to see the awesome Gr.3 Impreza paired with the very non-fictional BRZ in Gr.3
  • Toyota Prius GT300 [Gr.3] - Since these things tend to happen in pairs and the Prius has the distinction of being the only other JAF-spec GT300 machine on the Super GT grid and is also a bonkers crazy V8 hybrid, it'd be great to see it included as a successor to the "Thanks, I guess" Prius TurtleCar from GT6.
  • Diablo GT2 '98 [Gr.3] - Because the Ford GT LM Spec II Test Car and Mclaren F1 GTR were not enough to throw things for a loop, lets throw another V12 monster into the fray! I see this one as being likely to happen!
  • KTM X-Bow GT4 [Gr.4] - For when you want to drive circles around Bugatti's
  • Lexus LFA SP8 GT [Gr.3] - Likely wouldn't show up until after the road going version, but I've sat here and thought to myself that Lexus and Toyota need more Gr.3 cars so this should be welcome unanimously throughout the community.
  • Nissan Silvia S15 specR Aero Gr.4 [Gr.4] - Naturally, the only old TC that should be revived for PS4 is this one, simply because it was my favorite car in GT5 and the fact that a highly modified old Nissan racing against fancy new Gr.4 devices tickles me.
  • Gr.1 Cars for the brands that don't yet have Gr.1 cars (yet have Gr.3 and Gr.4 cars) - Never mind balancing the glorious chaos that is Gr.1, down with all who call for parity in the fastest class! Throw more cars to the fire and dance my brethren! VGT vs LMP vs Group C FOREVER!
  • Lexus IS F Racing Concept [Gr.3] - That's right Gr.3. No PD, adding an even slower car to Gr.2 would suddenly make the '08 machines pace acceptable. Besides, it wouldn't be Gran Turismo if we weren't mixing an old DTM machine in against newer GT cars, and with the loss of Opel (likely forever!?), this will have to do. Besides, does Lexus even have a Gr.3 car? Shhhhh! Don't look. Shhhhhhh. Let it happen.
Either DeltaWing [Gr.X] - This car is a treasure and I'll fight anyone who hates it.

Track: Midfield Raceway

That's all of my nonsense for now

EDIT:Actually no, it's not. I decided to do a rundown of the brands that have Gr.3 and Gr.4 cars yet lack a Gr.1 car and deduced the likelihood of them getting one.

The brands are, in no particular order: BMW, Lexus, Subaru, Mitsubishi, Renault*, Volkswagen, Lamborghini, Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Ford, Aston Martin, Honda, Chevrolet, and Citroen.

Prologue
I put an asterisk(*) next to Renault since Alpine is a thing and they have a Gr.1 that (along with Bugatti) is orphaned of a Gr.3 car. So we'll count Alpine as Renault's Gr.1 car and add them to the list of "Never going to get a Gr.1 Car".

Very Well Likely Could
  • BMW - V12 LMR - It's been in the game before and could see a premium update to give BMW a prototype attack. However, BMW has been bullish on sportscar programs and want people to see the cars they sell being the cars they race. "What Formula E program?" they asked when I mentioned it. Otherwise, they could pull a Peugeot and yank another VGT car out of their hat that follows along with Audi's awesome petrol VGT Gr.1 car.
  • Aston Martin - AMR-On-... Just kidding, the DBR1-2 - It wasn't that long ago that AM was full enough of themselves to think that their GT success would equate to prototype success, and they were not entirely wrong. The DBR1-2 (it's easier to type than the Lola B0609021O) had shades of brilliance and I think it could make a nice caboose for the Gr.1 field. Not to mention they've been making some absolutely bonkers concept cars lately that could also be Gr.1 cars with a little bending of perceptions.

They Could (But you'd probably want their VGT instead)
  • Ferrari - The 333SP is fondly remembered but from an era that would likely mean the DeltaWing and certainly the Nissan Zytek are faster around a circuit. The digital realm means anything is possible, but there's only so much you can do before you're redacting history. I'll wait for a Ferrari VGT if it happens. Until then, I've slapped a Ferrari logo on my Gr.1 Tomahawk to make sense of the world.
  • Honda - Like Aston Martin above, Honda (HPD) caught a few rays of success whilst playing under the massive cloud that was the Joest Audi program. However, at least in the US, Honda treated their LMP1 program like a red headed step child once the Acura badge came off, so I doubt it's HPD cars will be enshrined in Gran Turismo any time soon. A fancy VGT is far from the realm of possibility given their presence in Formula 1 and Indy Car, as well as real life fantasy cars like the HSV-010 GT.
Likely a VGT
  • Chevrolet - GM loves sticking their fingers into every motorsport pie they can, but only in America. Since Cadillac is unanimously loathed by PD (or by GM's licensing team for that brand), the only Chebby prototype's we're likely to see are old and outdated, or... well.. yeah old and outdated. With a new mid engined Corvette on the way, Chevrolet could commemorate the occasion with a Mid engined VGT that isn't powered by friggin' lasers.
  • Ford - The old Ferrari fighters have also followed Chevrolet's trend (to a lesser degree, albeit) in finding their way into as many motorsports scraps they can here in the U.S. Ford's have powered Grand Am DP's but those would have difficulty keeping up with Gr.2 cars even at full wick. As Ford's GT GT program winds down, they have been rumored to move to DPi, but we'd want a VGT instead. I also doubt the C100 will be resurrected in digital form anytime soon.
  • Lexus - Another brand that has Daytona Prototype routes as their last link to any kind of prototype sportscar program. They're a flashy, tech-centric brand but Toyota runs the LMP program in this marriage, so a VGT it is.

Probably Not (aka The "Never going to get a Gr.1 Car" list)
Citroen, Subaru, Mitsubishi, Renault, Volkswagen, Lamborghini, Alfa Romeo - The two Italians on the list might have the best chance, and Citroen, Renault and Volkswagen have been willing to stretch their brands to the limits of the imagination especially with Gran Turismo, but they all have very little prototype histories (Renault's Group 5 car and Alfa's historical artifacts being all that come to my mind) and thus, little to leverage with even a VGT car. That being said, all the more reason for them to make a Gr.1 VGT car? If [REDACTED] Dodge and Hyundai can do it!?
