Building a cockpit for GT5 release

finally I can be accepted in the GTplanet community. For some reason I couldn't sign up.

So I been working on this racing cockpit, using PVC pipes, woods, and screws/bold etc. It's near completion. Note, that's my older wheel on the pix. I upgraded to a G25 recently. Couldn't wait for the G27. Haven't really use it much.

So here the first look of it. Feel free to commend on it.

Looks good... does it need all the cross bracing and flooring ? Can save some weight by shedding that.. less weight means better cornering of course :)

That other thing in the picture looks pretty impressive too... Im sure you put it there just to show off a little, but I reckon its hot... really hot. In fact I cant recall the last time I saw a pinky-purple pushbike with white tyres that looked so damn good :D

Indeed - sweet ride...er I mean stand.

Liking the front quarters. It needs a CF hood (but that's probably already on the list) and I don't see any slots on them disks, tsk tsk.

As for the stand, yeah, not many people I've seen have used PVC pipe as part of the framing, but I guess if it works, use it.

Coming along well. 👍

Here is a pic of my old pvc cockpit I made which was extremely strong and durable

Nice..I'm sure it would be - and I'm not saying its a bad material....just that not many people use it - probably because of the round surface being hard to get a sqaure joint (or something).

Actually I need more weight up in the front due to the pvc pipes and design of it was light weight and gets very shaky without the cross woods. Now it stiff as a rock. Ain't gonna fly anywhere now. Tried to take off the seat off of my car last night, but man was that a *7$%# to get off and still couldn't get the bolts off of it. No luck, gotta get a new seat for my cockpit.

I like your design, I'm sure it look pretty stiff. I kinda regret about my design earlier in the process.

Yes it was pretty stiff, the only thing I didn't like about it was how difficult it was to move out of the way when i wasn't using it. I have a different cockpit now but I plan on building a new one soon and make some improvements like adding a keyboard deck and such.

I like what you're doing with yours.

You're correct there were some concerns I had with mounting points,, but as long as I drilled the hole first instead of just screwing through the pvc which led to cracking I didn't have any problems.

I'm attempting to create a local sim league using about 4-5 pvc rigs whenever I get it completed I'll post up pics.

So here's the update on my progress. Finally got the seat off the car and onto the cockpit.

Still got a lot more things to do on it. Can't wait to see how it'll look when painted all black.
Got on the wheel with GT5 Prologue up and running. I was pleased with the result. It felt more real. I'm loving this new G25 wheel. More testing and building continue on another day.

More to come... Race on dudes

Well done.... with the seat on it looks even better..and the colour? im thinking of building one and if i do the colour will be....yellow and orange! well done again.💡

did you just screw all the ABS plastic joints or did you glue them also? cause the glue actualy melts it and will take a cow load of flex outta the rig

Great job. Been following it for a while now. I do have a question for you.... How do you have your shifter mounted in the last picture? I mean the piece of wood its mounted to, how is that connected to the rest of teh pit? Do you have a better pic of it and how sturdy is it?
