Ok, here's the deal... For all you Audiophiles out there, if room size and money was not an option, what would you build for the Ultimate Home Theatre System?

Now, don't just post a cheezy response, put some time and effort into it. Treat as if you were proposing this to a client or a contractor. Crossovers, EQ's, management systems, Remotes, particular wire... It's all about the details, so what say you? You up for building the UHTS? :D

 and have fun...

Oh and, pictures or diagrams would be nice...

What kind of room would you like to build? Ok, sometimes it's easier to know what to put together if there are some boundries to follow, so I'll layout some limitations.

Size of room: 3,000 sq. ft.
Volume of room: 45,000 cubic ft. (15' ceilings)

Assume that all acoustic treatment has already been placed. Seating will be stadium type of seating. Carpeted furnature, with heavy drapes on all the walls, as well as diffusion material on the ceiling. There is suffencient tracking in the floors for running any wires, as well as suffencient crawl spaces in the walls for equipment installs (you were thinking ahead). There's also conduit run throughout for running cables and wire.

As far as budget goes...., consider this, your putting this together as a high-end theatre that has a seating capacity of 500 people. Depending on what you charge per head, you would like to be able to pay for the equipment in three years. The building itself is fully depreciated, and is mearly no cost to you (The rich uncle finally kealed over), your job is to just furnish the equipment and pay it off in three years.

I hope this helps a little...;)

500 Lazyboys (black leather).
Monster Cables all around for speaker wires.
Umm...yeah...thats it for now.

I thought it was a home stereo theatre (i.e. seating for about 5.)

:) Might as well go large and make some money on the deal, eh?

I don't know much about home theatre crap. Surround sound would be a must though. Big pumpin' sub woofers, biggest flat screen television I can find connected to the big pumpin' sound system...

a dolby digital procesor (one procesor able to take every single frequency and convert to any other (4.1+5.1+6.1+7.1 and beyond)

a few amps one (may be two) for each channel.(i want every
single channel (and speakers) able to be in theyr owm signals and frequency)

a few speakers selectors (one for each channel with capacity of 5 speakers or more (according to what i need in the moment)

ergonomics seats (for all the room)

a few remote's controlls one for every room.(one or two seats with remote integrated for the entire HT system)

a pop corn machine(this optional)

heat level display(on the pc too) a cooler system for
the all system (fans or a/c whatever he shoose)

I don't have prices handy, but we're deep into six figures just for the electronics here....

ok...I'll ditto what Risingson had to say. It's been a few years since doing a room that large, so I'm antiquated with the equipment. I can note a few of the reflected names from above. One thing you need to worry about (ficticious or not) 3,000sf is not enough room to seat 500 people comfortably. Your looking more at seating 200 people in that area.

While the building may be there, you'll have to bring it up to code for an auditorium or theatre. Here in Massachusetts that's a bit of a cost. You've also got to provide neccesities (bathrooms...food...)

Are you looking into hosting Video conferences? telenet connections? Weddings and receptions? (Yes, star Trek themed weddings...)

While the above mentioned systems work excellent for the home theatre, the sound proofing and room tuning (sound reflection and reverberation you will get) is an added cost.

Throw in a lazboy a piece for 200 people, and you're already over $200,000. New carpets and sound deadening under the carpet.

Out fitting a 3,000 SF room can easily run you $200/sf for outfitting it. With additional up charges and associated costs, I hope you rich uncle dropped you and extra 1.5 mil to hook it up.

Now... Outfitting a 600sf room, you can pick out the Denon equipement, and some B&W speakers to tip you into the $10,000-$20,000 range. A nice projector for another $5k, and you can run GT3 on a screen 10' wide. That Aston Martin revving will make you wet your pants.

Good luck
