I just rented the game and let me say its great! Its got good graphics for an acadey game. Good choice of cars and tracks. Music sucks though and some races are really hard while others are well to easy. This is my thought on the game. Put your input in to.

I thought this was a really good arcade racer. I'm still unlocking some of the custom cars, but I really enjoyed the game thus far. The graphics are excellent, especially for those of us that can play in progressive scan. :D

I know the original got a fair degree of criticism, but I still play it - for me at least it's a real 'bum tightener' racing down the freeway into oncoming traffic - haven't been able to get quite that sort of thrill from too many other games.

Tell me - the original Burnout was Logitech compatible, so is Burnout 2?

Yes it is, I just fired it up and played with the wheel (didn't even think of it until you mentioned.)

Progressive scan? Explain.

Click on interlacing on the left side and scroll down a little for an explanation.
The benefit if this on the Ps2 is a cleaner picture.

The main thing I like about Burnout 2 Over 1 is that the 'Checkpoint timing' isn't as tight. I could never get off the first 'level' on Burnout 1 (and so it got old real fast), in Burnout 2 I am actually progressing through the game. The Background music is a bit repetitive though, But with the sound FX you hardly notice it.

I know what you mean on the original re the timing - once I managed to win the roadster and learnt how to corner it while sliding I was able to get under the times a lot easier.

No - 'sliding'. The car is in a slide - therefore it is sliding.

The local video library finally had a copy of this to rent - I can't believe how much better it looks than the original Burnout!

The extra tasks in the game are a nice addition - Pursuit is good value, and the Crash missions are hilarious!

It seems to drive a little bit better (well, the Roadster, anyway). The Checkpoint times are a bit easier - I think it's been set up to be a bit easier initially - the original had a pretty steep learning curve, which made it pretty hard to get into.

The 'Boost' function seems to be of more benefit too - I love that 'rush' effect you get.

In summary - pretty damned impressive. If you're looking at the new Need for Speed game, I'd definitely recommend checking this out.

I just think that the game could have been longer. I was disappointed when it ended. I wanted more cause it was a lot of fun to play.

I have played both parts of Burnout and I can say I am burnt out on both. Indeed 2 has more perks than 1 but I liked the NOs effect in 1 better. In 2, I feel no diff between regular racin' & w/ NOs. I am not sure how far I am in 2 but I just fininshed winning the 5 race championship. No, I didn't buy either one of them because there is nothing realistic about 'em, but than, they are arcade games, per se. The best part, of course, is the oncoming traffic.
