Top 100 Global Brands Scoreboard
The table that follows ranks 100 global brands that have a value greater than $1 billion. The brands were selected according to two criteria. They had to be global in nature, deriving 20% or more of sales from outside their home country. There also had to be publicly available marketing and financial data on which to base the valuation.

1st ranking is this year's. Then the 2004, until the last one(closest to the company name) is from the 2001 list. Followed by the brand names are its' parent company names, nationality, 2005 brand value(in $Million), 2004 brand value(in $Million), change in brand value(%).

I don't agree 100% with this list, but it sure is interesting. As far as the video game big 3 goes, Nintendo and Sony has been falling last 5 years. Microsoft has been in the second place behind Coca Cola( ) ever since the list started.

Edit: Wow. Are certain words censored automatically? I just noticed that part of Panasonic's parent company name, Matsu****a got bleeped out. Did it again!

McDonald's? My stomach just turned. :ill:

I'm impressed to see Google and Amazon on the list. I guess world domination isn't too far off for them.

he he... Matsu what now? :sly:

I'm surprised that Microsoft are not number 1...

I don't think they were number one last year either. Not 100% if it was that far back, but I heared thay wern't number one before.

Well, that's impressive. But I don't think sony or nintendo especially should be compared to microsoft.

It scares me to see as many beer companies in there as there are.

The list started in 2001, and Microsoft has always finished #2 behind Coca Cola(my favorite drink). Yesssssssssssss!

Ditto; I still don't have any idea how people can eat that stuff.

But aside from that, interesting list. It's certainly interesting to watch Nintendo decline steadily over the past 4 years, and Hyundai has made it onto the list, just one place above Nissan. They deserve it though; they are starting to make some good cars, and the next gen RWD Tiburon is very promising (thanks largely to it's drivetrain, at least for me).

Brand value, people. BRAND VALUE. It is an independent valuation of how much their NAME is worth to them. Coke has been number one since they started doing this. Consumer goods that are heavily publicised are bound to have high marks (beer, soda, fast food. In other words, consumption driven by advertising). You'll notice that Toyota and Ford made the list, while GM did not (while GM is much bigger, especially globally speaking, than Ford or Toyota). Interesting, no?

Well, GM has their brands split up more--and there is no "GM" brand. Ford and Toyota both sell trucks, vans, family cars, and performance cars--as Ford or Toyota. Ford/Lincoln/Mercury, and Toyota/Lexus, compared to (GM) Chevy/[Corvette]/Pontiac/Cadillac/Buick/GMC/Saturn/Oldsmobile (dead now, but still heavily invested in), besides the fact that Toyota and Ford are both Toyota and Ford everywhere, while GM is further split up into Vauxhall/Opel/Holden/Daewoo everywhere else, and this WAS a global Brand Value assessment.

As far as Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo go, you have to realize that both Sony and Microsoft sell a lot more than gaming consoles.

Not to mention GM's truck line (I'm taking big semis). They account for huge profits amoung the company.
