Please feel free to use my file, but I would ask you guys to post your results and printing methods/materials here. Would love to see what you all make of it, cheers mates, AussieStig

G'Day everyone,

Here are 4 Button overlays you might like to try out. The buttons have been named but I think they are fairly generic so they could apply to most games.

You may have to tweak the size a fraction, but it is fairly accurate. Just cut around the white dotted line and use good quality glossy or self adhesive paper.

Let me know what you think or have any ideas. If anyone tries one, please post a pic here.

Cheers mates, AussieStig

Very well done mate, it looks very cool. thank you for posting your finished result here I appreciate it a lot.

Cheers mate

Just thought I would post my own result, tried a test version of my overlay, it will be on glossy paper once I get around to getting some, but for now pretty cool I think.

Cheers

Hi AussieStig,
Changed the graphics to suit my own preference. Been a member a while but GT6 has got me reading forums some more. Love the overlay and think I have added a photo with your overlay on my home made seat rig.

Thanks for sharing. image.jpg

Hi AussieStig

This is a great way to easily and cheaply pimp up my G27!

I'm going to print out the plate when I get to work and take advantage of their fancy paper and colour copier!

Do you plan on making a similar plate for wheel itself, with labels for the 6 buttons or even a centre cap?

I don't own/use the any of the PC programs used for this but I think I could easily change the button labels with a dymo label maker to suit my button configuration.

Thanks again for sharing, will post a pic when I have installed this bad boy!

Hey PIP_36

Cheers mate, I am happy that you like the button overlay, yes I am working on something for the steering wheel buttons. When it's done I will post some more info here.

Look forward to seeing yours, I don't really offer this, but if you need some other text, send me a PM with what you are looking for and I will modify the overlay to suit your needs.

Let me know, cheers mate, AussieStig

Thanks for the kind offer mate, I may need to take you up on that!

However, in the mean time, could you spare some advice?

I tried printing off the pics as they are in the OP but they came out a little small, should I have downloaded the pics via the link you provided instead?

I was reluctant to download the zip file as I was using a work PC and didn't want to raise any flags.

I looked up 'gimp' and saw that it is a free program, I will download it once I get home and see if I can get the size right as well as having a go at changing the labels myself.

I am thinking of printing out a few of your templates with different button labels and then laminating them, that way I can change the plates depending on what game I am playing. Hopefully I can get them laminated (here at work) and make them stiff/durable enough for them to be interchanged every time I change games.

Thanks again for your offer of help and for sharing in the first place.

Will keep you posted mate...

No worries mate, I look forward to seeing/hearing from you. About the size of the overlay, the pictures here above might be under or oversized. The XCF file or Gimp file is exactly the right size. You can download the file there is nothing in it except for the XCF file. Gimp can be tricky if you havent used it before, but it does give you complete control over the file and all the layers used to make the overlay. If you need any help let me know, cheers for now, AussieStig.

Nice shift gate plate :) Where did you get it?

Hey Pilmat, ta mate, I made the plate by hand. I tried to make a real gated plate, but as I found out, the shift pattern and the amount of movement required doesn't lend itself to a practical solution. It may be possible, but I would suggest using a non metal material, as the shift mechanism is exposed and the metal shaft contacting the gate plate may over time result in filings falling into the mechanism.

The way I have it set up now, the shaft does not come in contact with the plate. I also have modded the shifter with a spacer under the spring holding the ball bearing in place, giving me a much more positive shift.

At the moment I am working on a sequential plate to slip over the shaft and mount to the aluminium plate I have now. I am really digging the idea of using a sequential shift lately. There arent many cars these days that have the H shift. But this way I can have both and that's cool.

Cheers mate, AussieStig
