Buy disc in US, live in Canada. Problem?

As the title suggests I live in Canada but want to buy a copy of GT6 in the States since I'll be there on launch day. Saves me taxes too.

Any problem with this with regard to weird region recognition / locking issues?

I did search but found nothing.

PS3's aren't region locked so you won't run into any problems

Edit: BayneHamlin1121 already beat me to it :P

Buying DLC will run into problems, as it's a US copy of the game, any codes have to be used on a US account, and all DLC will have to be bought on a US account to work with that, but the disc will work on any ps3

The game disc itself shouldn't be a problem as not only is the PS3 not region locked but because game copies sold in both Canada and the US are marked as NTSC. DLC might be an issue as it appears Region exclusive usually.

Is there any difference at all between a "US account" and a Canadian one? And even so, I don't see how that would make the slightest difference since the game disc is the exact same region for US and Canada. Should be perfectly fine. The disc is not American or Canadian so DLC downloaded anywhere in the region should not be a problem at all.

I don't think even DLC is locked. Since the U.S. and Canada are both countries in Region 1, they'll receive essentially the same copies of the game and DLC bought from either store should work on either game. I think.

Failing that, you can always make a U.S. PSN account...

EDIT: Tree'd

DLC is locked, Codes only work for the coutry they are released for, like you can;t use a canadian psn card on a US account and vice versa

This thread showed up just in time. I'm originally from the US but I'm studying abroad right now in England. Almost pre-ordered the Anniversary edition from Game with the steel book and all. But I don't want to miss out on any DLC so I'll wait till I get back to buy the US version.

Country doesn't matter, as long as the disc codes match.

BLES / BCES - Europe
BLUS / BCUS - USA
BLAS / BCAS - Asia
BLJM / BCJM - Japan
BLKS / BCKS - Hongkong

BC from Sony, BL from third party.

And then the number.

Numbers can differ, especially important in europe. If a german buys a UK game as example, it could cause problems.
But on the other hand, I as example can usually get DLC for french and austrian copies.

It won't be a problem with DLC it's a North American release not restricted to US or Canada

Not true. If you've got a US copy of the game, @Iso Octane, you'd then need a US PSN account for any DLC. It happened to me with GTPSP. While you're gonna get hit with our taxes, your safest bet would be to pre-order before leaving, and pick it up once you're back in Canuckistan. Or just not pre-order; I don't expect stores to have zero stock after the 6th.

Canada and the US share the same disc and the same DLC, even with separate PSN store, the content is exactly the same. DLC from either store will work with a "US" disc. As long as the disc and store use the same BCUS-xxxxx tag, they are compatible.

I have to admit that I am a bit frustrated that Sony leaked GT6 in advance for digital copies... I have to wait until Friday... :( and yet... that means Monday the 9th... Damn Postal service... :(

if I remember a special promotion from GT5 and the Schick razors, it only worked in the US. Technially speaking. Montreal exists in Missouri ;P

But I would recommend playing it safe nonetheless...

Going only on my own experience, I lived in a border town most of my life and have purchased the majority of my games in the U.S. while playing them in Canada with no issues. I also created a U.S. playstation account and bought PS gift cards stateside so I could save the taxes. Plus, DLC is cheaper in the U.S. as are most of the playstation network games.

A little off topic but anyone know if you could move a GT5 gamesave between disks from different countries/regions?

That's not true. Any US code will work on a Canadian account. I have tried and tested this many times. In fact just did last week when PS Plus went on sale for Black Friday on Amazon.com
