.....and dark mate! A full test of our driving skills and all with Full Damage. Only the bravest need apply :)

I loved it last weekend, you get this illusion that there is so much more going on because of the spray, when PLAY and Lavandel had their incidents I honestly thought, specially PLAY's incident when I approached the section and Cobani slammed on the brakes and spray everywhere I could have swore there were 2 car's at least involved, Same with Lavndel's, the rooster tail still settling down made me think there was another car on the other side of the track,

I would like to see the time change slowed down, there wasn't enough laps passed in the dark,

I would like to see the time change slowed down, there wasn't enough laps passed in the dark,

If I am setting the room up I can tweak that. I was trying to achieve as close as possible to assimilate 24 hrs passing in 13 laps but there seems no science to it. The adjustment of 0-60 seems to be something you need to play with on a trial an error basis. Last week I set time change to 16, so maybe something like 18-20 might work better

its all cool to try for it, maybe after the 24hr when this becomes a monthly 4 hour again we should try for the full 24 hours, but 13 laps we should try to cove 12 hours time change, then once those values are sorted I would assume you half it or double it depending on what the scheduled distances are,

...and dark of course! 👍

Approximately what lap times did you get last week when it was dark and wet/raining?

My fastest was a 9:29:XXX averaged 9:30:500 I think I backed off to a 9:36 in the dark, in the next 3 hours I should have all results and write up finalized,

Dave, was that also in the wet, or was it dry/dark?

that was all laps for me apart from laps 1 (start), 7 or 8 (pitstop) 10 - 12 (incident's and pitstops and tire bungle)

I am yet to finish viewing the replay, I will post everyone's fastest lap's in final overview,

RACE RECAP

Track conditions at start, 90% surface water, weather getting worse,

QUALIFYING Gadget tries an unusual new form for qualifying, confuses some people, Knukken takes pole by miles while the rest of the field scramble for position,
Pole eventually given to Davidb due to Knuk's departure,

Qualifying order for race

Davidb,
Lavandel,
Play117,
I-was-ere,
WIDFO,
Gadget334,
Cobani,
Ejiff_Emro,
TDZdave,
ANFD,

RACE Knukkens departure and some issues with I-was's connection left the field a little scrambled, This takes a while to sort out,

Davidb Leads the field through the esses and takes the green, with the windscreen wiper's on fast and head lights ablaze for the whole field

Ejiff goes straight on at the first turn before the race start, forgetting to change from slicks to wets,

Davidb loses his advantage of Pole position by running wide at turn 3 intermediate tires were to blame, WIDFO follows him through the gravel, Lavandel takes the lead,

I-was goes off at the hairpin trying to avoid a collision with another car, Davidb and TDZdave follow him through the gravel, leaving them in 6th, 7th and 9th, Ejiff still struggles on slicks,

Gatget tries a new line exiting the chicane, replay shows its not fast and he rethinks his strategy,

Running order leading into the Nord section, Lavandel shadowed by his countryman Play, small gap back to Cobani, who has a few car lengths on WIDFO and TDZdave, Davidb, ANFD, Gadget and I-was are left scrambling while Ejiff gently tries to fight his way through the condition's,

Gadget hits the Nordschleife pit wall taking damage and becoming the first victim of the Nurburgring's nasty side, I-was also has damage, unknown as to how it was attained,

WIDFO runs wide at the high speed exit of Hocheichen, giving TDZdave the scare of his life, but gets away unharmed, rejoins almost right behind TDZdave,

I-was-ere has a huge moment on the lead up to Aremburg at over 250KPH sending him into the gravel, gets away without more damage,

PLAY117 Spins on the exit of Ex-Muhle and takes damage, causing Cobani, TDZdave and WIDFO to take evasive action, PLAY does the right thing and waits for the majority of the field to come through before rejoining the action in 8th place 👍 to PLAY,

running order through Klosteral,
Lavandel looking at home in front with a handy gap over Cobani with TDZdave right behind him, WIDFO 3 car lengths behind, another gap to Davidb hanging on quite well on the intermediate tire though its not recommended in these extreme condition's and ANFD keeping him in check, With a large gap back to Gadget, PLAY and I-was who are together in limp mode,

Lavandel spins on the exit of hohe acht, gap evaporates and Cobani takes extreme caution coming up to Lavandel and jumps on the brakes hard, TDZdave nearly runs into the back of him, Lavandel rejoins 8th after waiting for the whole field to go through to rejoin safely, 👍 another good decision made by another Swede, well done,

I-Was gives the high speed right hander coming up to the carousel hairpin a nice clout and takes more damage,

WIDFO runs a little wide for comfort in the lead up to the Carousel, followed by almost missing the groove in the Carousel, costing him time to TDZdave who is almost wearing Cobani as a Jacket,

Lavandel gives a wall a hard lick unsighted,

TDZdave misses the groove in Schwalbenschwanz, WIDFO runs wider but both still keep it on the tar,

Tiergarten, Cobani pulls a few car length's over TDZdave, with a bigger gap back to WIDFO in 3rd, who has gapped Davidb on intermediates and gapped ANFD, Gadget and PLAY lead the damaged cars, while I-was and Lavandel's cars struggle back to the pits leaving Ejiff begging for mercy,

Final corner, Cobani is hesitant on attacking it, catching TDZdave by surprise, TDZdave then goes into attack mode and gives Cobani a Bump down the start straight, Cobani not looking to fight or take damage gives up first position,

ANFD loses control in the final corner complex, taking heavy damage, he leads the damaged cars to pit at the end of the lap, PLAY and Gadget continue around with their minor damage

Davidb is feeling brave and continues around for another lap on intermediates,

WIDFO drops a wheel into the gravel at turn 4, recovers from the minor incident,

TDZdave rounds the hairpin as Cobani runs wide allowing WIDFO to catch up as I-was and Lavandel enter the pits, and Ejiff still pleading for mercy rounds the carousel,

I-was and Lavandel exit the pits after being serviced for damage as TDZdave leads the field into the Nodschleife section once again,

Gadget remains persistent onhis new line through the chicane, only loses time,

Aremburg, TDZdave holds a 5 second lead over Cobani, 2 seconds back is Widfo and 3 seconds behind him is Davidb, PLAY maintains a 6 second gap behind David and has dropped Gadget, while ANFD and I-was try to regain tome lost in the pits and Lavandel takes more damage unsighted on the GP circuit,

I-was takes more heavy damage in the Hoheichen complex, will lose a heap of time limping back to the pits,

Carousel, TDZ maintains a 7 second lead over Cobani, another 7 seconds back to WIDFO, 5 second gap over Davidb, with PLAY reeling him in, Gadget may be regreting not pitting as ANFD pulls him in at a radical rate of knots, I-was and Lavandel are in limp mode as finally at 17m.27s into the race Ejiff gets to the pits and applies the correct shoes on the car,

PLAY has a big moment on the exit of Brunnchen, almost collects Davidb, manages to recover without further damage, Chooses to continue to battle on another lap without pitting for minor damage to both front wheels,

Lap 4, TDZdave maintains a steady pace hitting all his , marks, Cobani follows behind a fair way back and holds a gap over WIDFO, PLAY takes 4th after Davidb hits the wall in the Hatzenbach complex, Gadget remains 5th nursing damage while ANFD continues to punch away at the conditions, Lavandel, and I-was are struggling with heavy damage once again while Ejiff continues to plug away at what time was lost on the first lap,

I-was also hits the barrier through Hatzenbach, then again at Flugplatz and again at Kallenhard putting him back into limp mode for another lap,

ANFD spins upon entering the Schwalbenschwanz complex, takes damage, luckily he was on his own and near the end of the lap and enter's the pits immediately, ,

Davidb pits at the beginning of lap 5, submits defeat to the conditions and gets rain tires, rejoins behind Gadget,

I-was suffer's connection issues before finishing lap 4, unfortunately we were kind of expecting it,

Cobani slides into the wall taking minor damage to the rear of the car at Ex-Muhle,

Ejiff takes minor damage, unsighted,

ANFD has a high speed off at schwedenkruez spins all the way to Aremburg, Takes severe damage,

TDZdave crosses the start stripe to begin lap 6, With Cobani coming through the Final complex in second, WIDFO some distance back after some minor mistakes in third exits Dottinger Hohe and onto the back straight, After slowly taking nibbles of time out of WIDFO Play makes a mistake through the Carousel and loses all he has gained in a car already with damage, But is just entering Dottinger Hohe and doing a fastastic job of carrying the damaged car through these conditions, Gadget also dealing with damage enter's the Schwalbenschwanz complex as Davidb exits Wippermann some distance back, ANFD is carrying a heavily damaged car through the high speed section of Kesselchen, while Lavandel is making up lost ground through Ex-Muhle, while Ejiff still paying for the tire bungle on lap 1 powers through the Schuemacher esses,

Cobani hits the pit wall of the Nordschleife taking slightly more damage,

WIDFO runs wide and hits the wall on the exit of Hohe Acht, followed by another off through the Schwalbenschwanz complex taking more damage, tail lights are now visible for Play117, WIDFO heads for the pits, and exits just in front of Gadget,

1 hour point
TDZdave leads,
Cobani +28.569 (still carrying damage)
WIDFO +1.07.031 (enter's pit lane)
Play117 +1.15,228 (carrying damge passes WIDFO in pit lane)
Gadget +2.05.542 (still nursing damage)
Davidb +2.24.846 (has pitted once for tires and damage)
ANFD + 6.09.785
Lavandel +6.45.344
Ejiff + 1 lap

Ejiff nursing Damage gets caught by the leader TDZdave through the high speed Kesselchen curves, TDZdave touches the grass as a result of being blinded by the spray, luckily doesn't hit the wall or Ejiff, Ejiff gets off the track and yields position 👍 great work Ejiff,

WIDFO takes heavy damage at Kallenhard, allowing Gadget to get passed for 4th place,

Play117 takes more damage at the exit of Wehrseifen,

Lavandel takes minor damage on the final corner, Chooses to battle through,

Davidb suffer's disconnection after fighting the element's with his new tires to almost catch WIDFO and Gadget,

Lavandel and Ejiff take heavy damage unsighted,

Lap 8, TDZdave decides to pit for fuel and Fresh rubber, allowing Ejiff to regain his lap, Cobani follows TDZdave into the pits or be it 30 seconds back even still Cobani retakes the lead for around 10 seconds,
Play117 chooses not to pit this time around and continues for another lap and takes Cobani for second place, Gadget takes heavy damage unsighted and WIDFO catches him, they draft down the straight and both also pit, WIDFO having just pitted a lap before retakes Gadget for forth,

Thus brings us to lap 8, I will complete the rest over the next 24 hours, as for now there is a corvette to smoke up,

You can add me to the list Gadget334, but I'm not certain because this weekend my wife is free from work (she's a nurse 👍 ) and she might want to do something else than listening to my engine-sound from the PS3.

When it comes to the timeprogression in the game, it's rather simple really, but can get easy to lose oneself in maths...

Here's a rundown...

When set to 1 you will have one minute pass in-game for every minute of RL time.
Set to 10 and you will have 10 minutes pass for every 1 minute of RL time.

So - To get a full 24hr cycle in 2hrs you need to set it to 12.
Why?
Simple - you need 24hrs to go in 2hrs gives: 24 divided by 2 equals 12.
More math?
2hrs = 120mins.
120x12(timeprogression)=1440mins
1440mins=24hrs (24x60=1440)

I hope that made sense to you all.

You know I was thinking about that myself and wondered if the Time setting was a straight multiplier and your post confirms it. In that case maybe we run Saturday as a 'real time' 12 hours race that (for example) starts at 20:00 and ends at 0800. In that case Time Progression needs to be set to '6' right Lav.

Hope u can make it Sat. What about your other Octane Racing teamates, Play127 and ???

I hope to make it, depends on work commitments, this week I hope to pick up where I started and go again,

Ok, so far the list of drivers hoping to race on the weekend are:-

Gadget334
I-was-ere
Rosenlarden
ANFD
TDZDave
Davidb_165
Lavandel

Anymore for anymore?

OK, to compliment Dave's write up, here is my photo report of last Saturday evening epic weather dominated race.

Nuumlrburgring24h_14_zpsa4398852.jpg

The cars form on the grid for the rolling start. 100% wet and raining hard.

Nuumlrburgring24h_15_zpsc917a45a.jpg

Davidb_165 (#18) leads the two ‘chromed’ Team Octane Racing cars of Lavandel (#13) and Play117(#57) around the GP loop on the first lap followed by WIDFO’s Red GTR (#63).
In 5th was Gadget334’s Yellow GTR (#34), then Cobani (#28), TDZ-4-12-14-88 (Violet Chrome #72), ANFD (Light Blue #17) and Ejiff_Emro (Dark Blue #96)

Nuumlrburgring24h_16_zpsb46e7fff.jpg

A few corners later after the 100% wet conditions cause Davidb, Cobani and others to take trips through the kitty litter, it’s the Octane Racing Cars leading the pack from myself (Gadget334)……..........

Nuumlrburgring24h_17_zpsb6795fc3.jpg

…….just momentarily before I also make a mistake accelerating out of the chicane which ultimately drops me down to 8th ahead only of Ejiff_Emro who’d had his own off track excursions bought about in no doubt by starting the race on RM tyres, when all but Davidb_165 (Inters) had opted for full wets.

Nuumlrburgring24h_18_zps6ab2102e.jpg

It would turn out to be a very long and treacherous tip toe lap for Ejiff_Emro in order to pit and change to more appropriate rubber.

Nuumlrburgring24h_19_zps90091857.jpg

A spin from 2nd place Play117 allows Cobani into 2nd, and also promotes Dave and WIDFO a place. Very fair driving from Play in waiting until it is safe to turn his car around and rejoin the track means he is 8th before getting under way again albeit with slight front right car damage.

Nuumlrburgring24h_20_zps7f9750d7.jpg

A kilometer later the Lavandel also drops it, handing the lead to Cobani’s orange GTR. The very wet conditions catching out some very experienced drivers. Again, Lavandel also shows great respect for the other driver in being careful to restart safely, but this means he also drops to 8th.

Nuumlrburgring24h_22_zpsdb6e824e.jpg

Dave passes Cobani for the lead as they cross the line to complete the first lap.

Nuumlrburgring24h_23_zpsd6d77b4d.jpg

ANFD pits to repair rear wheel damage, as does Lavandel. Jeff is still miles back skating around on his slicks.

Nuumlrburgring24h_24_zps98e8bc73.jpg

Lap 5
Play puts a wheel in the gravel on the entry to the GP hairpin causing him to get all crossed up for the next 50 metres.

Nuumlrburgring24h_25_zps4bd836ce.jpg

Lap 6
Darkness starts to descend on the track. Rain still falling, and TDZDave now leading Cobani by 17 seconds. By Lap 8 the track finally starts to dry as the sun comes up.

Nuumlrburgring24h_27_zps1df8f965.jpg

Lap 11
Daylight and with the track drying to 61% most cars are on Inters including leader TDZDave. But suddenly with just 2 laps to go and a lead of over 2 minutes signs of loss of concentration from our leader starts to show, first running wide at the GP Hairpin…..and then more seriously snapping sideways and spearing into the wall a kilometre into the Nordschleife causing heaving body and engine damage.

Nuumlrburgring24h_29_zps908c65d5.jpg

Meanwhile Gadget and Cobani pit on the penultimate lap and they both opt for RM tyres with the track at 56% and the sun drying it fast……but not fast enough.

Nuumlrburgring24h_30_zpsf7b2fa26.jpg

There is barely a few second between them but both cars are sliding all over the place. Gadget takes 3rd on the GP Circuit while Cobani has his 3rd off track excursion in 6 corners.

Nuumlrburgring24h_26_zps03362e95.jpg

TDZDave makes a more serious mistake snapping sideways and spearing into the wall a kilometre into the Nordschleife causing heaving body and engine damage.
..and then another trip into the wall to damage the other front corner. Car now appears to be handling like a crab and Play is now starting to eat into that 2 mins lead.

Nuumlrburgring24h_28_zps8ff1e55f.jpg

Gadget now in 3rd holding off Cobani in the background. Both are struggling to stay on the tarmac on their slicks.

Nuumlrburgring24h_33_zps2ce2161e.jpg

At the end of 12th lap, with Cobani heading to pits with damage but stay on RM’s, ANFD streaks past to move up to 4th.
Meanwhile upfront Play continues to catch leader TDZDave at around 5-6 seconds per SECTOR, but it probably still won’t be enough to overhaul the lead.

Nuumlrburgring24h_31_zpsbcdc2103.jpg

Lap 13 (final)
TDZDave pits to repair damage. But….disaster strikes again. He doesn’t notice that with the track now at 52% the default tyres fitted to his car are Racing Hards, when the Inters are clearly more suitable as proven by Gadget and Cobani’s experiment. He drives straight into the kitty litter at the end of the pit straight. Can Play close down a 1:12 secs gap on the last lap? TDZDave has no choice other than to try and slide around the last lap and hope its enough to secure the win.

Nuumlrburgring24h_34_zps26f70e7b.jpg

Meanwhile, Lavandel continues to show great racing courtesy pulling offline to allow ANFD to lap him.

Nuumlrburgring24h_32_zps35d19f9f.jpg

The last lap is a disaster for long time leader TDZDave, and after countless brushes with the barrier, and damage to 3 corners and the engine, TDZDave concedes the lead he’d held since lap 2 and Play passes with a 1/3rd of a lap remaining. He eventually wins by 20.9 seconds

Nuumlrburgring24h_35_zpsea76a56e.jpg

It’s been a challenging race for Efiff_Emro following the disastrous tyre choice at the start of the race, but credit to him for sticking with it and eventually bringing it home in 6th.

Apologies to i-was-ere who doesn't feature in this report or my pics because he was invisible to me in lobby and race, therefore nothing showed in my replay of results.

I dearly hope I can make it this week, I'm starting a new job and I'm expected to knock off around 3 hours before race start, Its going to be a 2hr sprint race for me to get home in time, hopefully I don't muck up the last 10KM home like I did last weekend, I will try notify you on my mobile if I can make it or not,

👍 great pictures gadget, I just wish you had more of me and Cobani through the last 2 sector's, that really was an incredible battle,

You know I was thinking about that myself and wondered if the Time setting was a straight multiplier and your post confirms it. Your maths depends on how long you want those 12 hours to take in RL?
If you want a race lasting 2 hours and in-game time to from 20:00 - 08:00, you are correct in your maths. Set Timeprogression to 6 (same as 12 but only half the in-game time racing resulting in 6).

The other problem is figuring out how many laps because you can't, afaik, set a time on the race. So far I think you can be fairly sure you run about 13 laps in 2 hours. In bad weatherconditions, I simply don't know due to my inexperience in heavy rain.

I guess you guys have better knowledge when it comes to laptimes during rain.

When it comes to Play's participation and our 3rd member "the-burre", they can only speak for themselves, but I'm quite certain they're very interested in signing up.
The-Burre's steeringwheel broke, however, but we've managed to get another buddy of mine to lend his wheel to The-Burre. This is supposed to happen sometime later this evening (thursday).

Hopefully all three of us can participate for saturday's practice :sly:

I would establish 9:40 as the base lap time, it was capable by everyone during the last event,

Amazing contributions to this thread Dave and Gadget.
Looks like a Hollywood script! :)

I will miss the sequel though :(

Have fun gentlemen,
Cheers
