Yup, the VLN 'Solo' 4hr Enduro is on 16th Feb at 2030 GMT

And the Classic 24hr TEAM Race is the following weekend

Lavandel, you qualified for the event, you proved you can race clean and fair and not panic when you spun out on lap 1 and crash, plus I think your in the 24 hour race?

As TDZ said, take a look at the list of permitted cars at the start of this thread and choose one and practise in all weather conditions. Quite apart from being an illegal car for this series, your non race Scooby was hopelessly outgunned. Hope to see you 'redeem yourself' next weekend

Yup, I remember a good little tussle with you mid race as we fought over 2nd/3rd place. Need to check replay but think you drafted past on Dothinger and tried to follow u but you pulled away

Due to PSN anomalies, 3rd place i-was-ere (Yellow Team Motion Blue GTR#38) could not see the two cars ahead of him on the grid, the normal rolling start to the essess format didn’t go as planned, and through no fault of their own Play117 and Cobani inherited a 14 second lead even before the race had started.

Little mine inexperience there I saw the drivers list steady and Cobani begun accelerate behind me, I then thought it's was time to start the race. If you look at the first spilt time we got 11sec. advance. Next time I'm gonna use the chase cam to see down the field.💡

Actually I take some blame as Scott said he couldn't see u and Cobani and so it was predictable something like that might happen. And when I realised I started talking on comes to tell Scott (I-was-ere) to "Go go" before realising I'd switched my mic off for the race start and by the time I got it back on, you guys were already at the esses. Oh we are all learning as we go

Yea, you was like a stamp on me the first lap. And when you made a mistake on 2nd, I made one to little further away. It must have been my unconsciousness still wanted a battle. It lasted until 3rd when I picked up to much damage. good driving Cobani.👍 But greater by micantony who managed to hunt down the lead despite the uneven start.👍👍

Not wet at all. Despite constant light rain it never went beyond 10%

Thanks for the race report Gadget. I find that it's hard taking photos in the dark.

On the player visibility glitch, it will be an issue in future races because at end of Lap 1, I made an attempt to pass i-was-ere on the start of Dottinger Hohe while keeping 2-cars width away, because he have no idea I was alongside him due to me not being visible in his player list.

Now imagine one of us made a manoeuvre during that moment, and the one seeing both cars will take damage, while the other will keep running fine, in theory. He can't see me, so he can't be hit by me. To be proven in a future race.

GT5 sure have some wacky glitches

I manage to race i-was-ere in another room later on without issues. However in 2 separate races I cannot see AllenDK on track, must be our ISP not liking each-other.

You may be able to test the theory if you have the replay saved. I came together with iwas at the mini karussel because he couldn't see me and I took heavy damage and spun. It would be interesting to watch the replay from his bonnet cam and observe what gt5 does. Can't remember which lap but it must be about mid race. I certainly pitted straight after so that would help close in on it.

GT5 Network Problems, some pictures

Not blaming any of the drivers, because the issue lies solely with the network between drivers, and/or GT5 servers.

The 11-sec start gap building up between 2 and 3, due to player visibility.

David coming together with i-was-ere at the Mini Karusell...

Ended up like this. i-was-ere was not seen taking any damage, maybe because his car is already heavily damaged (from my replay). We will never know because we don't have his replay due to his disconnect.

Bob overtaking Gadget...

turned out like this, costing him a podium spot, due to his own over reaction, NOT due to network issue

Avoiding him like the plague because he can't see me (thanks to him for mentioning it at race start). Using the wider side of the track.

After the overtake, did not notice i-was-ere getting any slipstream boost from the Vette, because in his race the Vette don't exist. It's a piece of empty track in front

I may have a replay where 2 cars couldn't see each other yet ended up in the same section of track and having the weirdest crash I have seen, the game realizes both cars are on the same piece of tarmac from my camera position and literally throw's them out, one car goes into half second full 360 degree spins while the other almost clears the fence barrel rolling, then the car spinning straighten's up and the other car flying around does another barrel roll, lands on his wheels and continues racing right on his tail,

Two cars (that don't see each other) occupy the same spot on the track... will crash only when a 3rd observer sees them

Bringing us into quantum physics land and meeting Schrödinger's cat. They crashed (in your console) because you saw them dave. I think they should be still running fine in each of their own races oblivious to each other.

My understanding of these events is that its meant for us 24hr people to practice with the the rest of use, and pick up some extra Nurb enthusiast's along the way,

You need to check with Kurt but I believe so. Would be good to have a few more but remember maximum is 7 because plan is to enable each teams 'manager' to be able to watch race from lobby (on second PS3) and give his team live updates from the timing screen, plus there will be 2 eace stewards 'watching' live too. Add that lot up and you'd have the maximum 16 connections in the room.

Hopefully the interest in these practise races will hook in a couple more teams by 23rd Feb. get canvassing !!!

From what I understand the 24hr race, last year, was more popular due to one single fact...

It was free.

This one actuallly costs you an entrance fee and I think this has been decided on to weed out anyone who is not serious about his racing (even though 24hrs should weed out most fools).
Another problem might be to find 3 drivers and one manager "locally" since you need to be seated at the same place to switch drivers (something you cannot do online) because you only have one "driving PS3" connected while the 2nd PS3 is used by the team manager.

We were actually lucky to get 3 drivers together (I was last in) or we wouldn't be able to even qualify.

I am a bit surprised that so few teams participate, however, because this only happens once a year and should be a big thing even on GTPlanet, IMHO.

In any case.

See you guys on the 4hr training and during this weekend (my GF is working evenings this weekend which means more racingtime for me).

Yup it's once a year so worth the effort. One of my team is flying to Bristol from Amsterdam an the other two are over 100 miles away but we are all looking forward to a great weekend of GT5 fun. And let's be honest, the few is $50 between 4 so it's hardly going to break the bank. I understand the few as there will be carbon fibre trophies/Plaques for the podium positions so which obviously have to be paid for. Plus Kurt is not even racing himself so its good of him to plan, organise and adjudicate the whole thing.

I would but my "mates" are all bone heads and I would end up driving 24 hours straight, plus they wouldn't be fast enough, and if they were fast enough they wouldn't be patient enough, so they would just ruin the experience for everyone involved,

I left to tour Australia with the bands Sabaton and Nightwish early jan but my phone died the morning I left so i have had no internet at all other that a few minutes here and there which I used to pay bills etc.
