It always depends on the other end as well. "The Internet is only as fast as the slowest link." I've downloaded single files at over 300kb/s before. But I've also downloaded them at less than 1kb/s.

It's pretty quick for me. I'd say faster than most, due to fairly well done web design (: You've done a good job on the current (first?) design to make it light weight and quick to load and build in a browser.

:( Its not fair!!! i had it for a year, at my apartment, and when i moved back home to save for my house, my parents don't have cable nor can they get it. I have called Time Warner a billion times, even talked to an Engineer that told me it wasn't practical... :( i miss my cable connection...

Ugh...please don't ever say that again. :(

Well, that's good to hear! :D It often seems a lot slower than most on my modem, and I worry about how it's affecting broadband connections. Hopefully it will only get faster when we move to our dedicated server, and our new layout I'm working on loads much quicker than our current design (I noticed a difference as soon as I started using it!).

Thanks... :) This is actually our third design in the history of the site, so I guess you could call the new one "GTP v4.0". :D

Wow, that's cool. I had started archiving my previous sites but eventually I decided that keeping that old stuff was pretty irrelivant. It's not like I'd use it again. I have no idea what "version" I'm on now, probably in the teens. (:

I've taken a few screenshots of the old designs for nostalgia sakes, and I've even got the very original saved on a CD-R. The second one is actually still online at the our first webhost. :)

Sorry guys - been in Newcastle overnight at an Xmas party.

The main thing I've noticed is not that the page access is faster, but that all the fiddly little graphics are loaded when the page appears, you don't have to wait for them to load up, so that's nice.

The really good thing is my favourite radio station, Melbourne's 3RRR, webcasts, and the streaming audio is pure - no more stuttering pauses you get from dial-up - so I've run the AV leads out of the laptop into the stereo. Fantastic.

You guys might like this station - it's a community station, but it's professional - they play a lot of alternative stuff that doesn't get played on the commercial stations.

It's at www.rrr.org.au - check it out

Cool, cool. The html file (actual page information) is relatively small, and that is the first file requested by your browser. That's why it appeared to load first with your dial up. Then from that file the browser determines what other files it needs to download. With cable, it's so fast that it appears to happen at the same time.

I'll be checking out the radio station.

It's about content, not method!

You don't refuse to read a book because you don't like the grade of paper - sheesh!

Actually ....

Ok, lets say the paper was so horrible that it gave you calises on your fingers and made you go cross-eyed. That's what using Real Media is like for me. Being a System Administrator, I look at things a different way. The last few times I've installed their software on someone's computer my thought was, "Holy CRAP! I can't believe someone wrote software this horrible!". It does things to your computer without asking. It installs all kinds of programs without asking. And the default settings are to add you to all their mailing lists, and the list of options is hidden. In my opinion, their marketing department had control over their software developers.

It is pretty bad for that. It takes forever to install because you have to keep changing the default options. They should learn from something like WinAmp, which is really good in terms of user options.

I used to listen to that and Triple J when I was out there. Had RRR streaming for an hour now, pretty good. Not keen on the DJ (Cleah something), but good tunes.

Good shout vat_man! ;)

Cheers mate - good thing about that station is the diversity.

I know a few Sydney people who say it's a lot like JJJ was about 15 years ago.

There's a story from a few years ago from the RRR manager - Melbourne is the only city in Australia where JJJ hardly rates, and the RRR station manager gets a Xmas card every year from the JJJ Melbourne manager saying 'thanks for the ratings, bastard'.
