Each tablet contains 200mg of caffeine (that's more than an 16 ounce monster/rockstar)

A 36 tablet container at Kroger costs 5 bucks...extremely easy to buy/get ahold of.

Reccomended dosage every 3-4 hours...safe as coffee.

Anyone see this going downhill?

Another site to satisfy your informative needs: http://www.novartis.com/consumerhealth/OTC/NoDoz.shtml

Funny the warnings given on that site are...
"...too much caffeine may cause nervousness, irritability, sleeplessness, and occasionally, rapid heart beat."
"Do not use as substitute for sleep."

I'll admit, I've taken the stuff while trying to write a paper. I do not recommend it (writing the paper late and taking this stuff). I've never been so wired in all my life and I had a screaming headache when it wore off. Lets just saying drinking Coke or coffee and listening to some good rock is a better way of staying up than taking this stuff.

You shouldn't need a prescription for that. You should know what you're taking and know the consequences before you put it into your body.

I'm trying to remember if it was Philip K. Dick or Spider Robinson who pointed out in a satirical feature that Caffeine, in similar forms to Cocaine, can be just as deadly.

Lovely little story. Wherein he purported a fictional world where people had caffeine smuggling, shooting up with it, caffeine withdrawal symptoms, etcetera... and the drug-cop who's the main protagonist walks into a Mickey D's and orders a burger, fries, and a large Coke. Right before he eats, he peels it open and snorts it. (Coke used to be legal, y'know...)

Um... I'd imagine if it's to the point where you pop caffeine pills over making coffee you have a problem to start with. :dopey:

The culprit was a dose of two dozen No-Doz tablets.
I'd probably keel over too, or wished I did, if I drank 12 cups of coffee.

The Not Smart got done weeded out.

I use them occasionally in the mornings as a substitute for a cup of coffee. I like it - it doesn't annihilate my stomache like coffee can.

I carry a bottle in the car, and one in the site trailer. I've been taking No-doz/Vivarin since I was a senior in High school. For those counting, that was 1989 (nearly 20 yars). I've pulled multiple all-nighters while ingesting these.

I've OD'd once that I can recall. I was irritable, shaky and couldn't deal with sunlight. I puked up breakfast, but other than that, I was fine. I can honestly say that in the past 18 years, I have ingested 300-400mg of caffeine a day on the average.

This kid wanted to mess himself up. To honestly think that you could ingest 24 tablets (4800 mg) of caffeine and not cause serious harm, is blame that should lie on his parents.

This all comes back to my theory that we should take the warning labels off everything and let it sort itself out.

I don't get withdrawal symptoms, I don't need a jolt on Sunday morning. I do it simply to be fully alert all day long. Ever work in an office and feel sleepy at 2:00/2:30 in the afternoon? Pop one and it hits you like you need to be. No coffee stains on your teeth. No sugar, no need to hit the bathroom in 20 minutes.

I'm currently at a record high for caffeine ingestion. Most days see me turning the screws on the ride in to work. One No-Doz with a Red Bull (sugar free) and one in the afternoon. Keeps me cranking till about 9pm when I go to bed. Get up at 4am and start moving. My wife needs her coffee, I'll take a No-doz.

Now as soon as this is legally available OTC, I'm there.

Back when I was in the Navy, I used No-DoZ/Vivarin with a Mt. Dew every morning.
The "Breakfast of Champions".
Now I just drink coffee. Never more than two cups in a day of Caffinated.

Mmmm...Mt. Dew, nectar of the Gods.

But I'm with you I pretty much just drink coffee now, it doesn't really even affect me anymore but I really like the taste so I think that's why I continue to drink it every morning.

What's the difference in No-Doz and Vivarin?
Color and packaging. No-Doz is white, Vivarin is yellow. No-Doz comes in a bottle, Vivarin comes in metal and foil packaging.

I can say with some authority, gained from extensive use of each, that neither one is better than the other.

I must confess to preferring my caffeine in liquid form, generally around a half-dozen double espresso's a day does me just fine, a busy day at work can see that double mind you.

I can stand coffee with milk in it, so espresso gives me all the taste I need without the numerous toilet trips that a regular cup would have. Its one of the reasons I love working in our Italian office, over there even the vending machine manage to make good espresso.

[Quickly pulls NoDoz bottle from middle desk drawer (which also has allergy/sinus meds, cough drops, throat spray, nose spray, Tylenol 8-Hour, hand lotion, hand sanitizer, and Stridex face wipes)] Reading the instructions you shouldn't take more than 1/2 to 1 caplet more than every 3-4 hours. How much did this guy take? 24? Problem solved if you ask me. Heck, if he did that with the coffee equivelant I'm not sure whether it would be the caffeeine OD or the water intoxication that would kill him first.

I don't like the taste of coffee and this is the same amount of caffeine. Plus, it takes effect much quicker than sipping my way through a caffeinated beverage, although it isn't unusual to take one with a Diet Mt. Dew. I'm usually up until 10 or 11 and then get up between 4:00 and 4:30. I could go to bed earlier, but then I wouldn't get to watch my favorite TV shows. With that little sleep a 40 mile drive on the interstate can be a dangerous thing.

I stop all known caffeine intake by noon though, so that on the few occasions I want to go to bed at 8 I can.

One thing to remember, and I don't know how many times I can say this, anything can kill if you take enough of it.
