I know there's quite a few of you on here, so I thought I'd ask for some journalist tips.

As some of you may or may not know, I'm going to the Flame & Thunder/Gymkhana GRID final next weekend at Santa Pod Raceway. The Santa Pod important people are holding a 'Roving Reporter Competition'. The information about the contest is in a Facebook note. I'll quote it here so you don't have to find the Facebook page and then look through their notes.

Santa Pod Raceway Important Peoples
Santa Pod Raceway is offering budding young journalists the opportunity to report on the forthcoming Flame & Thunder show on Sat October 27th and win a VIP day for all their family at any major event during 2013 with hotel accommodation. After a packed race season, the team at Santa Pod Raceway are looking forward to finishing things in style. The annual Flame and Thunder event at the famous Northamptonshire venue will do just that – and best of all, everyone’s invited!

Flame and Thunder is unique in its mix of drag race action and wholesome family fun. Expect to see the fastest Top Fuel demos, Jet-Powered drag cars and bikes strutting their stuff on the quarter mile, but you can also bank on a packed itinerary of stuff for kids of all ages to enjoy, making this event a fantastic day out for the whole clan – particularly as kids under the age of 16 get in absolutely free!*

Get your pens at the ready and send us your report on all the action from your day out at the “Pod”! Entries are split into 2 age categories – (Under 10yrs) and (10 – 16yrs). Why not take some interesting photos to go with your report. Entries to be submitted by post or email by November 30th 2012. The winning articles will be published on the Santa Pod website and in one of the official event show guides next year. The prize for each age category will consist of a family VIP pass to any major event in 2013 with hospitality and one night’s hotel accommodation included plus a Santa Pod Raceway goody bag . A professional photograph of the winner and their family will also be taken on the day as a souvenir of the VIP day out!

Now, my writing abilities are very good, but I know that once I set my mind to reporting about the shenanigans of the Flame & Thunder/Gymkhana GRID weekend, I'll get writers' block. So what things should I include? What should I leave out? Should I write formal or informal? Add some comedy, leave it out? I'd like to report more on motorsport events I go to, so any tips you have for me will be handy in the future too.

Well, for your informal/formal, and your comedy/no comedy, you should bear in mind who you are writing for. If you're writing for teens, they will appreciate some humour. If you are writing for adults, they may prefer a more formal tone in your report.

Hope this helps! :)
