Can The WRS Go From "Offline" To "Online" Mode?

I've thought about this for some time but never got around to actually posting the question...

So...does anyone have any ideas on how to transition the WRS from 'offline' to 'online' if/when the next release of GT offers online mode? If so, I'd like to hear your thoughts because I can't think of how it's going to be accomplished...if even possible!

Thanks for sharing!

Until GT:HD and/or GT5 come out all we can do for the moment is hypothesize but it is something that will need some thought. Perhaps it will still be the Weekly Race Series but you spend the week getting qualification times and then we have 2 separate races over the weekend (with a 12 hour difference) where people can race "live"??? Who knows...

The fact that people are going to need to buy a PS3 and the game before any of this is possible will mean it's gonna take some time for the current incarnation of the WRS to require modifying I suspect. We'll see what the general populous want though, no doubt the structure of WRS will change...nothing wrong with change though 👍

Maybe we should split into a live WRS like you explained and a WRS that's still on the computer, because there's probably some features only available in single player. For example, I like the fact that the GT4 WRS is different each week. Sometimes we have liscences, soon we may have a mission, here and there there are things you don't expect. In GT5/HD, there might be 1 lap magic generators, to pick opponents, and time, and such. There may be the ability to pick your opponents, which, in online mode, will most definately not be available with everyone else racing. Plus, time trials are the basis for the WRS now, and online time trials are kinda not online. So basically, we might need online and non-online to continue all these fun races we have.

I agree with MINICOOPER120, we'll definitly have two kinds of WRS. If something like that is even possible. I think it's not possible to have a realtime WRS, because the structure of the WRS itself is something that can't be done "live".
I think that, besides WRS, we'll have a normal online racing, nothing else. The WRS will remain the same, if you ask me...

I think its gonna be a problem in the fact that, if you are playing some on the other side of the world. You will be getting horrible lag as i have had while playing online before joining here. :) :)

it'll probably be only far into halfway next year before any number of players will have access to ps3+gthd/5+web contact.
then, you'd still need gtp (or another more trivial gt4 board) to agree on what to do and when.
the time zone issue will be a major one afaimc. the time lag issue will also be one, but that'll all depend on broadband availability and cost.

personally i am sickened by the prices i hear of the platform, the game and the micropayments around the next generation of playing gran turismo. when ps3 becomes firstly available in holland it's supposed to cost €900 WTF!!!

Perhaps "trivial" to you, but for many these "trivial" sites that you speak of are what make up the GT community. Also, without these "trivial" sites there would be no Board Challenge.

BTW, how many times has GTP managed to beat these "trivial" sites in the Board Challenge?

You should really take more care when posting. Your constant little jibes are getting you nowhere. :grumpy:

Steven can obviously talk for himself but I interpreted the word "trivial" to mean "smaller" boards and it never came across as "insignificant" or "inferior". Whatever the case...this is all very off-topic and if you have a problem with Steven then I'd prefer you took it up in PM or backchannel because his comment here is innocuous as far as I'm concerned 👍

As for the transition from GT4 to HD and/or GT5. I think some of you guys who've been around for a lot longer than myself might have some useful ideas as to how this might run. Kent, CFM, Small_Fryz and yourself were all around when WRS-GT3 went to WRS-GT4 and could perhaps give some useful ideas on how this transition might work best.

Thanks for reminding me:crazy: :ouch:

At least personally i beat a few aye:sly:

Seriously though im suprised you even cared what he said Jerry.

Trivial matters keeps me from concentrating too much on the more significant ones, Dion.

great news is, GT HD will have hosted challenges. i kind of see WRS fitting perfetcly to this. off course, our buddy list will be huge with all the drivers around here. i think GT HD with GTP members will be great... i don´t see the WRS dying, just changing. Full-grid racers! real time!

god, can´t wait...

when i said 'trivial' i had some pun intended, meaning gtp is great and the other boards are a little less great. that is all.
if my choice of words sometimes seems inappriopriate, please remember english is not my mothertongue.
if my sense of humour sometimes seems inappriopriate, well that's just me :)
colb', thanks for the support - though i don't know what inoccuous means.
