Can you use a flashdrive on PS2?

Been wanting GT4 recently and might consider buying a PS2, but I really don't feel like cashing out for a memory unit.

But you can't save games on it. You'll need a memory card for that.

Memory cards are not expensive. They are down to around $5 plus shipping, and maybe even cheaper in a shop.
