Canes Vs Oilers

Just watched game 1.

Probably the best hockey game I have seen in a long long time. Great saves by Ward, some awesome goals. Rolli is out, who knows how long..?

If Rolli comes back, this series will be intense. Just the first game was out of control, who saw carolina comeback and score 4 straight goals then one with half a min left...to win it...?

Nuts.

Anyways, Ive been rooting for Carolina since NYR and BUFF are out.

Comments..?

The Oilers blew a 3 goal lead. Roloson goes out late after the Oilers tie it back up, and then poor Ty Conklin screws up behind his net with 30 seconds left. I feel bad for the guy. He probably feels so terrible right now. It was a great game, a shame it had to end the way it did.

^ I agree.

McTavish just said Rolli is out for the series. Conklin has got to come up big. Ward is now extremely confident..this is huge for Carolina.

It wasn't totally Conklin's fault. Jason Smith fumbled the puck, though Ty was probably a little too slow getting back in the net. I also thought that Brind'amour gave him a shove behind the net on the way to scoring the winning goal. Oh well, with Roloson out, the Oilers are pretty much screwed.

Well from the looks of it, Conklin was just trying to push it up the boards behind him, not knowing that Smith was right there, so when Conklin passed it, it just bounced right off Smith's stick because it was much too hard. I don't believe it was in any way Smith's fault. Roloson out for the series is definitely huge, although one could argue that aside from a couple big saves he's made in every series, the Oilers defence has been what has made Roloson look so great. And we see what happens when their defence has lapses, such as tonite from late 2nd period to the end, and also 3rd period of Game 3 right through Game 4 against Anaheim.

Hopefully the oilers beat up bergeron for his craptastic play tonight.

He was a factor in the first go ahead goal and then rolli's injury.

Why hit a guy INTO your goaltender??

'Tis a good question, one I am sure he's no answer to. But wasn't it Staios' mistake at the blue line that lead to Carolina's go ahead goal? :odd: I do agree though, Bergeron had a terrible game for Edmonton tonight.

Staios did mess up, but a good, at least an NHL defenseman, would have backed up to the redline when noticing that Staios his partner had pinched in at the blueline and was getting rushed by an oposing player. Even if your on a powerplay. If you watch the play, Bergeron just stands there staring at his linemate until the carolina player is gone. Thats unacceptable for stanley cup finals..
It just went to show why they dropped 3 goals in a row..
Don Cherry also said soemthing about this during coaches corner...hahah.

Im really psyched for this series though, I hope the rolli episode doesnt bring edm down too much and they continue to battle, theyre a good team who was not supposed to be there.

Don Cherry pointed out that Bergeron was "picking his nose", when he should have been backpedalling on the play where Williams scored.

Also, checking a player into your own goaltender is generally not a good idea 👎

I guess I don't have to state who I'm rooting for, here.
Anyway, I caught the third period. I don't think Edmonton was at its' best, but at the same time I think Carolina also got lucky a couple times. Sad to see Rollie get hit, I really hope he'll be able to return.

On a slightly different note, that has got to have been Don Cherry's most out-there suit I've seen yet.

Oh definately. Somehow, he can wear the most feminine thing in the world, and still make it manly.

Game 2: Edmonton PWNED. Craig McTavish can't be happy. He might need to kick some ass after that.

Ala anchorman:

Boy, that escalated quickly... I mean, that really got out of hand fast.
It jumped up a notch.
It did, didn't it?
Yeah, Ward got the shutout. And then that hit from behind?!
I saw that. He CRUSHED Ladd. Or was that a dive?
Yeah, Ladd turned his back on him at the last moment, but Laraque kept going.
I've been meaning to talk to him about that. He should find yourself a himself or a relative close by. Lay low for a while, because he's probably wanted by everyone in Carolina....

Game was a blowout, didnt expec that.

Wow...Just watched the 4th game....Edmonton's hopes are getting slimmer. Certainly not the outcome I was expecting tonight. They'll be in Canes territory next game. Man am I disappointed.

The Hurricanes are a better team than the Oilers, I expected them to win and they did.

The Oilers can't seem to manage to shoot the puck. Ward gives up rebounds, if the Oilers would stop passing around looking for that perfect goal and just put some bodies in the front and throw the puck at the net, as they've done earlier in the playoffs they'd probably be doing better.

Thats what I was thinking. They don't shoot whenever they get a chance, they pass and wait till they make sure they have the perfect shot! I always find myself yelling "Shoot mother 🤬 er!" at the TV screen. At this point being 3-1 Canes, the Oilers need to take a shot every chance they get! They seem to wait too damn long before taking a shot, as what Don Cherry pointed out earlier tonight.

They're obviously trying to copy Carolina's style of making the perfect pass and one-timing. However, they aren't as skilled as Carolina, so it doesn't work for them. Edmonton needs to swarm the net and stuff in rebounds--Cam Ward gives them up pretty easily. The Oilers need to score dirty goals, and not try to immitate Jari Kurri and Wayne Gretzky.

Carolina's got this one in the bag as long as they skate, something they didn't do in Game 3 (and look what happened :dopey:).

That's a negative on it being Carolina's night. It was a pretty good game, you could say that Carolina should be thankful that their powerplay can score. I loved that Edmonton scored the winner short-handed, heh.

Drat. Huge giveaway. Oh well, it's somewhat sweeter to win when you can feel the crowd deflating and leaving early to beat the traffic ;)

What an awesome game. That turnover really sucked. Who makes a blind and extremely slow pass across ice in their own zone infront of the net..?
Just dump the damn thing up the ice, they were already getting pressured...horrible play.
Anyone see ward take a swing at Staios after the ot goal? Pretty interesting.

Its going to be hard for Carolina to win in EDM for gm 6. That arena will be CRAZY.
