Let me 1st start off by saying I have been researching wheels for a few weeks. My main issues are:
1) Can't decide if I want a wheel (Fanatec) for use with Xbox 360 or just PS3. I play my 360 way more then my PS3. Mainly due to online playing I just enjoy it better on 360. But when GT5 comes I will be basically playing only that racing game. Unless Forza 3 ends up being better. But that is an unknown factor right now.
2) Money. I am willing to pony up for the Porsche 911 Turbo S Wheel - Clubsport edition that works with both systems but only if its worth it.
3) Never have owned a wheel before so not sure if the cost differences are worth it or if I would even notice a less quality wheel/pedals.

So there are a few options I have.

1) Wait for Logitech G25 to reduce in price with launch of G27. I am guessing I should be able to find a G25 for $150-$170 soon enough. WSP would be my stand $180
Total Cost: $329-$349 shipped

Thoughts:
*No 360 support
*Inferior wheel/pedals?
*Least expensive option

2) Porsche 911 GT3 RS Wheel - Clubsport edition - US $300 plus shifters $50 (why are shifters not included anyways?) plus RennSport wheel stand $130
Total Cost: Around $520 with shipping

Thoughts:
*No 360 support
*Great wheel and great pedals from all reviews I have read
*Worth an extra $150 to $170?

3) Porsche 911 Turbo S Wheel - Clubsport edition-US $480 plus RennSport wheel stand
Total Cost: Around $640 with shipping

Thoughts:
*360 Supported
*Best wheel and pedals
*Pretty pricey-Wife may shoot me :sly:
*Is it worth $120 for 360 support

Ok ladies and gents. What do you all think? Please try to place yourself in a newbies shoes. Should I go entry level and upgrade later if its something I really dig? Or go all out right away? Anyone think Fanatec may have a new wheel coming for GT5? Please share any thoughts/ideas you may have with me. If this post seems kind of "all over" the place sorry. I can't decide what to do. Its actually been giving me sleepless nights thinking so much on this.

Just had to make the exact same choices :)

I decided to go with your option 1.
I don't care about the 360
Got the G25 for 188 with taxes and shipped and the WSP for 178 (tax+ship) -> the price was good for me (and my wife ;)).
But in your option 2, do you have the shifter for that price ???
A last thing : I'm not sure I would be patient enough for the fanatec but the pedals look great

On Fanatec's website they sell the shifters for $50. I already had that included in the total price. I think if they shifters were already included for $300 that is the route I would take. Mind if I ask where you found your G25? New, used, or reburb?

I bought it here :
G25
The price changes very often. Was lower last sunday and now it's up again.
You can make a "price alert" and they will try to make a better price.

Thanks for sharing. I will keep an eye on this site. Looks like they are currently out of stock.

I has the same decisions to make. I already have a MS wheel, which is ok, but its no G25/27. I also have an old GT Force wheel from the PS2 days. Still works well with GT5:P.

Well I found the the Fanatec wheels to be way over priced. Costs to much, plus they dont include everything you need, like shifters. I feel like your paying more for the Porsche name on the wheel, then the wheel itself.

I'm a bigger GT fan then Forza, really couldnt get into Forza, mainly cause it doesnt have that GT feel I've been used to since GT1. So I put my focus on that. What will I play more? Forza, or GT5. Hands down its GT5. Another point for the G25/27.

Then I had to ask myself about other driving games. What system will or do I want to play them on? And the answer is... either one. So if I went with the G25/27, I 'd just get all the multiplatform games on the PS3. That just leaves one game in the dark, Forza. Which isn't a total lost cause I still have the MS wheel.

So I decided to go with the G25/27 wheel. I already bought a Wheelstand Pro, and I can say I'm very happy with it. I found it more adjustable then the Fanatac one. It works from the sofa or my racing seat.

Now I just had to choose between the G25 or the G27. I'm way more leaning towards the G27. First of all its new, and not 3 year old tech. I dig the bigger wheel, more buttons, adjustable pedals, better gearing, and an over all better shifter. The only thing it looses is the stick sequential. Which isnt a total loss, cause if I want to use sequential, I have the paddles.

Verdict = G27 w/ Wheelstand Pro.

I'm in the same predicament although 360 support is not a factor for me. I'm racing against people that use TSWs. I'm not willing to spend that kind of money but I want to be competitive.

So it boils down to the GT3 RS Clubsport and the G25/27. I'm most interested in opinions of those who have used both and which wheel gives them the fastest lap times. I've seen it both ways - some have said they're faster with the GT3, some say they're faster with the G25.

It's a tough call. I don't mind paying a little more and waiting on the GT3 if I'm faster with it. But a $150 GT25 would be very tempting. What a dilemma.

Hmmm everything I have read on the G27 does not convince me to want it more over the G25, besides the gears. Maybe I will have to take a look at some more pre/reviews of it. Only place I saw a video of it was at simracingtv. Any other sites that have a video of it?

Buy Fanatec Turbo S, you can play PC, PS3 and Xobx 360, worth the money ! Buy it and you will enjoy it for next 10 years.. Since its best multi platform you will never complain

I own DFP, G25 and now RS wheel. I love RS wheel and Clubposrt combo out of anything I own. With Shifter, Peddals, and the extreemly accurate feedback of RS wheel its like day and night with G25.. And back in day G25 is almost same money. Now I will buy the TURBO S pure edition. That way I will get 100% full support for Xbox and PS3. RS works with PS3 but you need to change date to 2008
In the end, sure its bit pricey, but for the quality its best bang for the money on the market today!

Thanks for your input. I appreciate it.

G25 is an option as a cheaper wheel.

Fanatec wheel and pedals is better for all sims I have tried so far including GT 5 Prologue. If you have the money and want the best consumer level priced wheel available go for the Turbo S club sport.

G25 is a bit cheaper so if you don´t see yourself racing that much it´s an option. It´s quite a good wheel still even if it´s not up to par :)

Some questions. Will the Fanatec wheels be compatible with GT5? Will the fanatec wheels and CSP work with WSP? Thanks for any help.

I can't vouch for Fanatec wheels as I haven't used any of them before, but if you're on a budget, just get the DF GT.

IMO if you're looking to mainly play GT5, then thats the best value wheel you can get since its reasonably priced and has some nice touches like the dial which I found to be quite useful at times.

I got mine and now Im hooked on GT5P. Never will I go back to the controller again haha!! Only downside is the lack of clutch and H-gear. But if you can live with that (i think many people can, me included) then the DF GT is all you need.

Hmm I never even thought of taking a look at the DF GT. I will take a look at that option.

Ok I have decided to wait and see how I like the Forza 3 demo. Hopefully we get news around the same time as the demo release of Forza 3 on when GT5 may release.
If I like Forza 3 I will be going with Porsche 911 Turbo S Wheel - Clubsport edition.
If I dislike Forza 3 then it will be Porsche 911 GT3 RS Wheel - Clubsport edition since I don't for see any other exclusive racing titles coming for the Xbox 360.
Of course this is my plan as of right now :-) This could all change later.

BTW I did find out that you can get a Fantec wheel to work with the WSP but its a hassle. Any one have any personal experience with this?

The answer to your question is: any decent FFB wheel is much, much better than none.

The differences between the wheels is less significant. The G25 is a great wheel, better than the Fanatec in some ways, not as good in other ways. I have both & still enjoy the G25 as much as the Fanatec. You won't be making a mistake whichevr way you decided.

With regards to the cost: if you play racing sims a lot, & aren't really strapped for cash, I think it's worth spending $100 - 150 more for what you want, because you're going to get a lot of use out of it.

One final point: I would strongly suggest a Playseat cockpit. Makes more of a difference than the difference between the two wheels (Logitech or Fanatec) IMO.

Now I am seriouisly considering just getting the G25 and see how I like it. I have never had a wheel. Don't think I need to go all out. Only thing holding me back are the pedals. CSP's look so nice.

The CSPs are definitely a high quality product - they are much more substantial in construction than the G25s. However, the G25 pedals work extremely well & I'm not sure in actual use whether the CSPs make that much difference. I think the difference in the feel of the wheels is more significant.

I will say this: the Fanatec wheels have a smoother, more "production" car look & feel to them, the G25 looks & feels more "raw" & "custom".

In the end, you will be very happy with either...
