Can't find that Christmas Present :(

So my brother wanted a LEGO Technic crane, and when I ended up at the store all of them were taken, my mother went ahead and bought a LEGO Star Wars ship that's 2 thirds the size of the crane. My brother was really, really, anticipating the crane now I'm afraid he'll be disappointed on Christmas. Help out guys, what are some suggestions to brighten the mood on Christmas day when he doesn't get what he wanted. (We looked through every store and no one sells it anymore :yuck:). It isn't his only present but his other ones aren't as anticipated as the Lego.

What else does he like next to the crane? You could combine a couple of things behind the crane. Did you check online, too?

It's too late to go online, but he did get a little robot bug thing, and a RC car which isn't anything too amazing.

You could try finding something a bit more epic than the crane. It's a possibility that it may not be sold out due to its epicness.

Did you try Toys"R"Us? They at least still stock it online, and the store locator lists 13 stores in the Vancouver area. Phone numbers are also listed ;)

Give him an orange and tell him he was lucky not to get coal. ;)

Na, kidding. Have you tried going on the Lego site and finding a list of local retailers or are you shopping just online?

It was Toys R Us that had that kit in stock, (when I mean in stock, I mean they had billions of the damn thing), now they have nothing except for giant Lego Technic stuff, and Star Wars stuff, which I don't really care about). So we check all Toys R Us and they say "That kit is waay to recent none of our stores have it it's just getting shipped now", (sure it is, when you had it all this time...)

Also, when you say "every store", was that literal or only pertaining to the big-box stores? Google led me to Kaboodles...

Kaboodles is Western Canada's largest independent retailer of Lego! We have everything from Bionicles and Star Wars to Creator/Designer, Knights Kingdom, and Mindstorms. Come check out our huge selection!

Have you given Meccano (and the like) a shot? Far more variations as far as building goes, and cranes are right up their alley as well.

Big Box^
THE KIT MODEL IS 8067 not 8053.

They DO have it in stock, because I've seen it there last month, and it isn't a new item that has never been shipped as the lady said.

Good call. I've been there when I was younger, they literally have everything, I'll go check.

Return the Star wars ship and build the text: ''You will get the crane tomorrow'', in LEGO and wrap that. Then buy the crane somewhere online. I remember my parents doing a similar thing when I was young and they didn't find the thing I wanted.

I agree, the Technic set is way better than Star Wars Lego. Just do something clever to delay it like leepangfu suggested.

I can't believe no shops have that crane in stock over there, here I have seen that set everywhere.

Good luck going out today if you are. I just did quick for some chocolate and holy! Never understood how people could leave everything to the last minute...

Do you have a Toy Traders near wherever you are? They have a ton of Lego out my way as that was a friend of mine job for a while in high school  he got paid to make Lego displays all day. If not then try looking for little shops instead of big box places. Oh and if your really brave and want it bad enough then you could try Walmart today. During Christmas season they get $300 000 in orders per night to restock shelves so by chance they may have gotten one.
