I bought GT4 today, any advice on the best car to get with about 15,000 credits? :boggled:
Thanks.

Extra Info: I bought a used RX-7 but I'm struggling.

Well don't you start out with 10,000? Oh well, look in the historic car section and the used car section and find a good car that has good specs, good looking in your opinion.
You'll find a good one in there for about 10,000 cr.

My suggestions are either the Mitsubishi Galant '89 or Lancer Evo '92. They're both 4WD, so you can use them for rallying once you have the licenses, and they have over 200 HP each for unde 10,000 Cr.

Or you coul'd do all the licenses (except the s one) and get the nismo by completing the ia license, then you could go to special condition events and easily win the second race and sell the car for alot of money.
But thats the lazy mans way(guilty BTW)

What d'ya take me for? A worker? Pah!

If you buy a Civic, and win the Civic race at Honda (5 easy races), then you will win a car worth 95,000 Cr (Honda Civic MUGEN Motul Race Car) and then you can repeat this to make lots of money in no time, that's how i "started" my career.

Use that RX-7 (if it's a 90's model) to race in the Japanese 90's Cup, and make easy cash that way...if you have some talent.

Honda CRX '90 or Mirage Cyborg '97 would also be good choices, since they qualify for the Compact cups as well as other races, while most other cars with some horsepower wouldn't (i've compiled quite the list on such 10,000cr. budget cars by now, will try to make it into a little faq/summary sometime). Both are quite competitive in the lower-bhp races.

In the US/NTSC version, there should also be a 202 BHP '97 MR2 G-Limited in the used car section, very nice starter car as well.

Sometimes there's also a 270 BHP Subaru Impreza WRX 4WD '94/'95 amazingly cheap at 9700ish credits, but that's probably not available quite from Day 1.

Lancer '92 would get the quick money fastest (thru Capri Easy) though, of course.

PS. By the way, I may be wrong but it seems you can not start GT4 with an American or European car (the totally uncompetitive Panda in the PAL version excepted). From what I've seen so far, it always has to be Japanese at first, so you couldn't start in the Euro or American events right away.

Once this is done you could go and buy a RX8 any year and get it to around 300hp and do the nra-RX8 club race in the mazda hall, get the Concept race car and do it a couple times and you should have over a million credit to spend because it is a 256,000cr car to sell. The race car looks like the Mazda 787B race car.

To be honest, depending on what model of RX-7 you bought, it's not the car's fault that you're struggling, but the "Biological Interface"'s fault.

You should practice more on your driving and racing skills. 👍
There is no substitute for learning the tracks.
Every bend, hairpin, kink and curve.
When you can run clean laps you'll find it's pretty easy to progress.

An unmodified RX-7 (FC) should easily obliterate the competition in the Sunday Cup and FR Challenge events in Beginner Hall without any difficulty at all, which should earn a little cash for you and 2 prize cars.
It should also do pretty well against the Renault 5 Turbo in the Easy Tarmac Rallies in Special Conditions hall which'll also earn cash and prize cars.
You might have to modify it slightly to compete with the cars in the Group "RE" event in the Mazda manufacturers specific races though.

An RX-7 (FD) should make things even easier. ;)

Can you let us know which one of the many RX-7s you bought?

In terms of buying a car during week 1, you're right, there's only the Fiat Panda & MG F from Europe available in that week (this is true for NTSC U/C version too) and no American vehicles, and if you've not transferred cash, then the MG is out of reach of the 10,000Cr budget. 👍
However, if you do the Domestic B licence tests, and get all bronze medals, this burns 17 days (16 licence tests and a day for receiving the very European VW Lupo 1.4 prizecar) putting you into week 3, where there are a few more European models available (Fiat Panda, Mercedes-Benz A160 Avantgarde, Peugeot 206 S16, Mercedes-Benz SLK 230 Kompressor & BMW M Coupe) although you'll still only be able to afford the Fiat!!! There's also a Ford Taurus SHO available in week 3, but it's also beyond the 10K budget.

For 15k you should be able to get an Evo from the late 90s. (I think)

An Evo IV would go a long way, it is really easy to drive, quite light compared to most cars, and adding tune ups makes it nigh unstoppable in the Japan car cup. For the same money, you can get a good R32 Skyline or an RX7 from the early 90s. The Late 80s RX7 models isn't too good, but its good enough to get past the beginner racers. I always bought the yellow RX7 from the 90s in week 2 or 3, it always appeared and was always the car i bought that opened up the professional league for me.

My recommendation (which mimic's MacBaby's post below) for a first car is to purchase a Honda Civic.

If the RX-7 that you have is from the 90's, its a good car too once you get used to it.

In addition, check out this link to some other recent posts in regard to starting the game in GT Mode. See my post # 15 for a discussion of a nice Honda Civic to buy.

Good luck, and enjoy the racing!

Took the words right out of my mouth. An RX7 (any RX7) should decimate most early competition available! Sounds like the OP is lacking skill, assuming he's just started and is doing the Sunday Cup or something like that. If he or she can't compete in an RX7 at this stage, no other car below $15,000 is gonna solve this problem.

Aside from the above mentioned started cars, I would like to mention the Silvia K's. Either the mid 80's or early 90's model.

They are very well balanced cars that won't punish you too bad while learning the physics of the game.

They also have a lot of potential if you take the time to build it right.

Another good starter car is the Nissan Skyline GTS-t Type M (R32) '89

This car is available in the Historic Car lot quite a number of times for $8,347

This Skyline is rear wheel driven (FR), and is very forgiving for the beginner racer. Do the oil change for $50 and slap on a sport exhaust system for $1,550, and you should be able to win the Sunday Cup races (in the Beginner Events) against most competition.

If you go to your friendly Nissan dealer and spend $1,250 for a racing chip, $1,600 for the sport intercooler, and perform the stage 1 weight reduction for $1,100, you will get a nice handling car that can take down most cars in the FR Challenge in the Beginner Events. I think even a beginner driver can turn the Aids down to 3/3/3 and do quite well in this car.

You can win $1,500 in each of the five races in the FR Challenge, and then you will be rewarded with a Nissan Skyline 2000GT-B S54A '67 for your efforts, which can be sold for $5,057

But doing that completely wipes out the fun of starting the game from scratch!

True, but it gives you a lot more cars to choose from, and more performance parts are available. If the player wants to start from scratch, he could use the money later on.

Actually, I'm thinking of restarting myself.

I've got one out of left field for the person. I feel it's better than the Civic as a starter car and you are left with spare money to actually MODIFY it!! However, you need to have a little bit of driving talent to go this path.

'97 Toyota Starlet Glanza V can be bought in Week 1 in the late '90's car lot for just over 5,000cr (about 5,020 or something like that). On top of that, you can add the racing chip (1,000cr) and then the remaining 3,900cr can be used on a combination of exhaust and intercooler. You make as much power as the Civic with lots more torque in a lighter package. 👍

Otherwise, you can get the Lancer GSR Evo 1 for about 8500cr and decimate anything for the first few races but you will need to get used to driving an AWD package.

I just started a new game and here's what i did.

I bought the '92 Lancer Evo form the Used Car Lot II(only left with 4xxcr!!!)and won the Sunday Cup,sold the prize car,got the A license, upgraded the evo with a Sports exhaust, won the Capri Rally easy easily, and Now I'm Rich!!!!

I've already upgraded to a Carbon R however...:)
