Car count? No, I don't think so.

If you've peeped at the official list you should know where this is going, and even if you haven't you should still be familiar with where this is about to go...

So we're told there are 800+ vehicles, right?

Unfortunately, there really aren't - it's more of a combined value that also (possibly primarily) accounts for duplicate vehicles. I'm not referring to different model years, or models with a slightly increased horsepower output nor am I referring to the same situation but with increased displacement...I'm talking about cars that are literally counted as two different models when they're not. In the Renault (Renault Sport) dealearship every single car is accounted for twice.

Why?

Apparently, there's a subsequent difference between a Latecia and a Clio that one has to go by the original factory-given name and the other a different name for a different market and somehow be two different models at the same time. Same goes for Mitsubishi with the 3000GT which is accounted for three times. :odd:

Now, surely these unnecessary duplicates could have been vetoed for more vehicles where they're actually needed (i.e Lamborghini, Ferrari, Chevrolet, etc...). I'm not going to say I feel cheated as a result (Okay, yes I am) but surely they didn't just half-ass the game just to get it out with the PSPGo?

Mmmm...they really should release some DLC for extra cars, tracks and modes. They can let a small Sony studio do that easly.

It doesn't really matter if you think about it. Its just when the reality set in it made us all feel like fools after the E3 announcement of 800 cars. GT5 has 950 cars, now we should wonder how many new cars in there.

Even still, we have a lot of cars for a PSP game...

I do agree, to an extent, but I'm just happy we have the game - I love it, it's a game that truly is portable (e.g. simple yet still has tons of re-play value in my opinion).

Both of which are true, I love it and have already gone through several battery charges (the longest I've been on my PSP since GGXX) but my main gripe with it is at this point it's more of a refurbished GT4 as opposed to something it could have been.

...All I keep thinking is "This is what delayed GT5?"

Nothing about this game reminds me of GT4 other than the car and track list, nothing else. I do not think this is why GT5 is taking longer, They are adding full car damage PLUS roll over to all car models. I blame Forza 3 for the prolonged release. See how I avoided saying delayed? But PD is massive team and I doubt the entire team had things to do all the time. Like all games they are made in parts, once the physic, graphics and code are in place its tweaking and adjusting content. The teams have plenty of members to work on other things.

yaywalter don't hold your breath on that one.....
