Cars That Deserve a GT Racing Conversion?

I had an interesting idea. What cars that don't have a racing version desperately need one, or at least in their time didn't get the opportunity to have a conversion performed on them?

I'll start, the Jaguar F-Type is still not homologated for racing, even thought the time is perfect for Jaguar to introduce a racing edition based on the SVR.

Post an optional rendering if there is one available:

Can i do it the other way around? If so then the Honda HSV-010 GT as a road car:

It bothers me a bit that they never made a road going version.

This might be a weird one but i kinda want to see a BMW I8 in a GT3 or Touring Car style:

Something like this:

I wouldn't mind if they took both the Petrol and Electric engine out and slapped a more powerful one in to fit within the regulations.

DTM

Alfa Romeo Giulia (Seriously, why haven't they done this yet?)

If Mustangs ever participate in GT3, I like to think they will be badged as Saleens, similar to how GT3 Corvettes are badged as Callaways.

Would love to see Saleen back in GT racing. Would be especially awesome if they made a modern replacement/equivalent of the RRR Widebody Mustang to race at Le Mans again. And with current GTE Pro rules, there's no doubt it'd look quite spectacular.

I had a crazy idea when I was buying a new copy of GT4 yesterday, and that's if Renault made a successor to the Espace F1. Basically they could've taken the Renault Avantime, loaded it with F1 technology and the 3.0 850HP V10 from the Renault R23 and giving it a livery similar to Mild Seven.

The issue with concepts is that it makes you drool over the possibilities... Which may or may not happen!

Amazing that the RX-7(GT300) was a GT car for the longest time and the S2000 never got the call to be a GT300 race car.

I tell you, even a base S2000 still looks fresh.
Honda-S2000-2.jpg

This, so much.

Despite my bias towards the S2000, I never understood why it didn't get a call-up to GT300, as it wouldn't been a perfect candidate at the time. And as you say, even 18 years after it's release, it still looks contemporary, and to think 2009 was when it ceased production is also mad , as the AP2's still look modern.

Well, I originally against the idea of the current Challenger going into GT3, but then I was reminded that the Bentley Continental has done it. So, if a Bentley can do GT racing; I don't see why not a Challenger. Plus, I think it would be pretty cool to see it hit the circuits again as a break from all of the Challenger's recent craziness with drag racing.

I also kinda wish that the Ford Focus RS could still be in WRC.

The RS rally livery oddly enough looks good on the Mustang. I never imagined that.

I really wish that Mazda would make a comeback to WRC with the Mazda 3. I'd absolutely love to see how that would turn out.

An Opel DTM comeback would be pretty damn awesome as well.

I really wish there was a GT3 race car based off the Spyker C8. It would have fit into the series very well.

I'm surprised why there has never been a GT500 race car variant of the LF-A. I think it would have made more sense than keeping the outdated SC around for a couple more years.

I know what you mean, would just generally be great to have more of Spyker in GT racing. The best racing version of the C8 we have/had was the C8 GT2R, which rather obviously raced to GT2 specs.

Otherwise, I'd love to see a GT3 version of their current car; the C8 Preliator;

Or perhaps, even more so, a GT LM version, which no doubt would look even better.

That is unbelievably precious of JLR. They just come across as arrogant now, with McGovern belittling aftermarket tuners recently. He's not that wrong, but then OE isn't going to be as broad in its remit either.
