Caterham and Gravity messed up!

I drove the Caterham recently and its totally ubsurd and unrealistic... the GT4 physics model for gravity is so unaccurate that the car flies.... even on the softest suspension setting it bounces everywhere (especially Nur) and i simply cannot drive it as fast as it could if it were realistic... Polyphony have assumed that the mass affects the gravitational acceleration on the car...
Ive always noticed this problem for all the cars that they tend to jump for a little longer and higher than they would in real life (eg. Nurburgring)... but on the Caterham this is multiplied and its so frustracting... i cant drive it round nur on any setting without it being on 1 wheel doing the long straight at one point in time, so unrealistic... it also wheelies everywhere (on S Tyres) when it hits any bump...

totally dissapointed with GT4 physics...

While GT4 physics are far from perfect and car do tend to travel a bit higher and further than they should, its not that far out with the Caterham.

They will get silly air at times and maintaining traction is an issue..

...as this one taking off at the 'ring shows.

This lap is also worth looking at...

...watch how seriously bumps effect the car and this is a restrained lap (the driver had only 5 laps experience with the 'ring at the time of this lap).

Give this set-up a go and see if it makes a difference....

...but at a little over 300kgs the Caterham is going to be very sensitive to bumps, etc. GT4 may exaggerate it, but I can assure you from actual experience on anything but the smoothest tracks, cars twice this weight will struggle to maintain traction.

Thats nothing compared to how it is in GT4.... if you look carefully on a Nurburgring replay the wheels and coming off the ground all the time... it doesnt happen in real life or it would be seriously dangerous..

I'm not disputing that they are not identical (and I quite clearly stated that in the real world video the car is not being driven at 10/10ths), but you would never drive the car the same way in the real world that you would in GT, and a Caterham Superlight is seriously dangerous if not handled correctly in the real world.

Well said, Scaff.

I must admit, I ended up suing R tyres on the Caterham at first. I'm more comfortable on S tyres now, but it took a long time and a few hundred miles driving in the car... I think the main Caterham I use (I have one in every colour) has about 700.xx miles on the clock from practiceing...

👍

I was gonna say something similar to this (except for the Regards part). Nobody would be crazy enough to drive a Caterham at Gran Turismo speeds in real-life, and if they did, they probably would wind up injured or dead eventually.

Why oh why does my go-kart skip and slide so much? I thought they were supposed to grip like hell? :D

While the amplitude of the jumps may be absurd, the actual reaction to the bumps really isn't...

I love the Caterham. Used to drive it around the Nurb a lot, working on refining technique and learning how to avoid/deal with bumps.
