Caterham Seven Fireblade- why......?

Now, I know this may seem a silly question to some people but what is the point of having the Caterham Seven in GT mode? I purchased one and whenever I tried to enter any events it simply said "The Caterham Seven Fireblade is a special car. You can not use it in this competition" or something similar.

If it is only designed to be raced in Arcade mode, why not just make it a default car in Arcade mode from the start.....?

The point? Time trials, it's a trackday car after all. I admit that it's a bit of a shock to pay a small fortune for it and then not be able to race it but there's not much you can do to help it. The reason to why it can't be raced is the amount of detail in the cabin and the driver, the PS2 couldn't render both it and the other five cars.

Ah, so that's why.....

I wasn't aware that you can't race with it in Arcade mode, though, thought it was just in GT mode.

It's totally ridiculous. I know how you feel. I wanted to race this one so bad....and also the Plymouth Prowler....but noooo.... can't be done. 👎:(:grumpy:

It especially sucks if you follow GT racing on ESPN like I do, and they allow Caterhams to race against "regular" cars like Acuras, Mazdas, etc. You get GT4 and think "COOL" :grumpy: but the Caterham cannot be raced. 👎 :yuck:

the caterham seven fireblade in real life isnt allowed to race in alot of races because the power to weight ratio is so insane that it beats supercars and costs less.
the thing only has about 200 hp

I'm in agreement over that. Although I didn't buy the Caterham, I tried racing the prowler and was disappointed that I couldn't do it. I don't know why, it's not a "special" car as it's a road released beast, but yet you can have the Buick Special which is fully restored and modified before you can go even more crazy with it and have that race in most of the competitions.

Always a 👎 for me with that. Just like my missing 32hp.

The Caterham is a great car - ranks up there with the Suzuki GSX/R4 thingy, but you're right about the PS2 not being able to render a live open cockpit driver (hence the roof up on MX-5s and Shelby Cobras) as well as 5 other cars.

I guess the Caterham will be a proper car once GT5 hits the shelves... makes me wonder if they're going to feature the Elfin MS8 Clubman too as a rival...

Nah, "detailed cockpit and no roof whatsoever" is the key. And then there's the Auto Union but the exception proves the rule.

you have a roof on your MX-5?? how come i don't have one??

When you race the MX5 the roof is up. When you time trial it it's down.

I think the biggest problem with the Caterham isn't that you can't race it, it's that the gears have been modelled terribly with yawning gaps when you change gear. It's a bike engined car, the gearshifts should be almost instant.

Yeah, but it is still mated to a transmission and a driveshaft and a differential, whereas a bike drives only one wheel via a chain... That's why the upshifts. If it was that easy, Ferrari would have done so years ago, LOL.

Erm... thats pretty irrelevant actually, as well as being wrong.

Bike engined kit car gearshifts are still very quick indeed, regardless of not having a chain final drive. Have a look at this video of a Fireblade engined Locost :

Erm... no. Firstly there isn't a bike engine big enough or torquey enough to power 1000kg+ of Ferrari. Secondly, motorcycle gearboxes aren't up to transmitting the sort of torque a large engine produces. Thirdly, in a car they're rough as anything and as a general rule road car manufacturers try and make their gearboxes as smooth and easy to use as possible.

ahh
i thought it was because it has a bike engine in it!

What makes a "special" car is the amount of driver and interior detail while it's running. Prowler, Caterham, Model T, the 1800's Benzes, I think the Leno tank car. All of these have extra things going on with them graphically, and the PS2 isn't up to keeping up wth all that and other cars, too. Yes, the F1 (oops! Formula Gran Turismo!) and some LeMans series cars are open cars, but they don't have as complete a driver and interior model. Also pretty sneaky how the roadsters have the top up in races, top down in solo sessions.

It was probably done as a modeling exercise in preparation for the PS3 and GT5, although there are indications that GT4 was intended to be a PS3 game but the console never showed.

The thing is though I never got why they didnt make the prowler have a top up in races.Due to being a Prowler fan I was very upset.

For fun.

I don't know about the others, but what the hell was the point of that post?!?!!? :irked: Wow, 666 views, wow 666 = devil. When it's 666 replies I might (and very vaguely might) consider caring but when you've got threads with 10000+ views and over the 2000 post mark, 666 views isn't interesting at all.

Now, BTT and not posting for the sake of it, what is more of a letdown to the people here, not being able to race the Caterham or not being able to race the Prowler??

I'm not snapping dude (the whole post would've been in CAPS LOCK if I was snappy!!), I am seriously asking what was the excitement in seeing a post with 666 views is?? If it's because of the devil, like I said, it's not a big deal.

I'll let it go at that and let you contemplate my last question, what's worse to you, not being able to drive the Caterham or not being to drive the Prowler?

I would have to say I'm more disappointed at not driving the Caterham, having been in one in real life, albeit the stock version, it is such fun! It pulls so easily thanks to its super light weight, and it handles as if its on rails! Having tried it in time trial mode, I can see the potential, it just would have been fun to test it against other cars.

Joe

True track day car, not for competing versus other cars in gt mode as they ususally get
ranked by horse power. This car would be way too good in 300 bhp class.

capable of archiving over 285 mph in max speed setup and can be tuned for any track to compete against GT2 and GT1 class vehicless at timetrials.

I remember when I first bought the caterham. I spent soooo much money and time upgrading it, and I couldn't wait 'till I started racing it. I got pissed. all that money down the drain.:ouch:
