I have a Lite-On LTR-48125W 48x12x48 CD-RW and Nero Burning Rom 5.5.8.3. I've been trying to burn some files to a CD and all I get is problems. When I'm burning it gets stuck usually around 7% and then after aboutr 10 minutes without moving of 7% I get an error saying it couldn't burn. I've wasted about 3 CDs trying to do this now and it is really getting on my nerve. I've looked for different drivers for my burner with no such luck. I'm burning at 48x if that helps in anyway...

I've had similar problems. My problem was that my audio files were too high of a bitrate for normal CD's, and since I don't have a special CD-Burner(industrial), I couldn't burn them. So I had to lower the .wav files to standard CD bitrates(grrr), but anywho, that solved my problem which sounds like it's similar for you.

Are you trying to burn an audioCD, VCD, SVCD, SACD, MixCD, DataCD, BootCD? Please be more specific....

if you are burning games? or ISO's.. its recommended that you use the slowest speed. or else your buffer will overrun and mess up.. I had the same problem with NERO and that solved it

Also, you'll want to be sure that your hard drive is defragged and error free. Do you leave the computer alone when you're burning, or do you do other stuff with the burning program running in the background? That can cause all kinds of trouble.

I'm trying to burn a Data CD. It failed again so I'll attach a pic of the error I get.

I'm not burning a game or ISO. I've succesffuly burned one copy at 40x, I just need to burn the another copy - which failed. :(

Here is the error I get:

I found this on a newsgroup, try it out.

Double-checking my IDE controller setting,
the DVD-ROM drive was indeed set to PIO mode, with no option to change.

Doing a little research online, apparently this is a known issue with
Windows XP and some CDROM and DVD-ROM drives "losing" their DMA setting
and reverting to PIO mode, with no option to change.

To fix it I did the following:

1. Go into Device Manager, select (in my case) "Secondary IDE Channel",
right click, and "Uninstall.

2. Reboot.

3. IDE channel and associated devices are redetected upon restart.

4. Go back into Device Manager. In the "Advanced" tab, your device will
still probably read as "PIO Mode". Select "DMA if available".

5. Reboot again.

6. Go into Device Manager for a 3rd time to verify that the device is
now set to DMA.

Voila!

Just burned a disc on the fly at 32x with no problems at all.

No clue what causes the drive to lose its identity, but apparently this
can happen sporadically.

How nice.

That's good, but I 've found that problems that magically disappear will often magically reappear. :\

...anmd now that VZ mentions it, I have had trouble with DMA before.

I think it has something to do with large files. The file I wanted to burn was 404mb. I usually handles large files pretty good, but I've never burned a 404mb file before...

I had a problem somewhat like that. I couldnt get a cd to copy. All I did was update to the latest version (5.5.10.20 I think) and it worked just fine. Its up to 5.5.10.28 now I believe.

Hrmm, large file sizes... You could increase the swapspace or buffer space, whatever it's called. Either buffer or cache, I'm not sure which one is for which. I think cache is for copying and buffer is for burning from your hard drive, but I could be wrong. Anywho, it's in File> Preferences for Nero

I set the cache to 50mb and the Ultrabuffer to 75mb.
