Cendyne DVD+r/+rw Burner From Office Max..........Can't read audio disc at all????

I'm stumped, maybe someone can help. This damn thing can read and write data cd, dvd's but can't read audio. Haven't tried to write audio yet either. I do plan to do that today. The problem is that when you put the cd in the drive, no files pop up on windows explorer and it doesn't autoplay. I don't know what to do, because this is the second unit that I have got from office max that does the same thing as the first.

Can you hear the Writer spinning the disc?

If you can, then it means that it means that the writer itself is okay, but the laser is more then likely burnt out, thats what happened to my HP CD-Writer...

When you put the disc in, does the drive label change to "Audio CD"? If so, the computer is recognising the disc. You should then be able to right-click the disc and choose "Play". This will commence playing. If you get no sound, it's because the sound cable is not connected from the CD drive to your sound card. Check this by plugging headphones straight into the jack on the front of the drive.

ACK!, I saw: "This damn thing can read and write data cd, dvd's but can't read audio." and thought he said that it can't read and write data CD's and dvd's.

I need to stop speed reading.

It doesn't say audio disc. It just says dvd/cd-rw drive. I can't push play in the right click menu it isn't there. and the cable is not hooked up. Do I have to hook that up in order for it to read audio?

No. The two are completely separate. It sounds like your drive is not recognising the Audio CD. In which case you have little recourse. I would go to the vendor's web site and see if there is a firmware upgrade. If not, then back to the shop for a refund, or a swap for another vendor's drive.
