Well I didn't make these and I don't do 3D CG so I honestly don't know. I imagine if you have good software and know how to use it you could crank out something like this in a week or so.

I'm not a 3D guy, as I stated before, but I do my share of Photoshop. Purple is one of my favorite colors, but I don't believe McLaren has purple in their spray room. Here's my rendition.

They are EXTREAMLY difficult to do to such a level of detail. The paint is HARD to get reproduced like that.

I think you would have been able to have your F1 in any colour in the PPG catalogue! I know that a number of the supercar makers do this, including Lamborghini. I know exactly what colour I will have my Murcielago in...

Yes, the GTR version (only 5 made, one for each car that finished in the top 10 in the 1993 Le Mans race), in McLaren Orange. Can't argue with that!

Actually I was looking at the red one in that picture. The GTR version doesn't really interest me all that much. But now that I know it's SOOO rare, that makes it a little different ...

As far as I know, one of the 5 is owned by McLaren, and another by David Price, of Dave Price Racing (DPR), who ran a couple of the cars. I know that the GTR that broke the 0-100-0 World Record was Dave Price's. (Interestingly that record is now held by a Caterham Superlight R500)

To make the 3D models? I don't know that downloading an app and "trying to do it" would get you very far. The people that make quality 3D models go to school for several years to get good at it.

But ... Maya 3D Studio might be a place to start.

You can get decent. I do furnature designs on 3dSM, and they are fairly decent.

I have tried cars (reproducing that is...) it is way harder than trying to invent your own.
