I think not
This thread is inspired by Route_66’s ‘200 A-spec points’ thread in the GT4 forum and my aim is to put together a similar database of challenging races for GT5 for those times when none of your friends are racing online, the public lobbies aren’t doing it for you and you fancy a good close race.

Unfortunately, GT5 has no difficulty rating like GT4 did with A-spec points making it very difficult to know whether you will be lapping the other cars after 2 minutes or losing 10 seconds every split to the AI rabbit who flies off out front.

What I would like is for people to post any close races they have had with the AI so that others can try them out and have some good close races themselves. Please only post races that gave you close wheel to wheel races for the entire duration of the race but not where you had to cheat (ramming, cutting chicanes etc) in order to stand any chance of winning. The idea is races should be difficult but ultimately winnable. Some rules for posting:

1.) Please post your findings in the following format: – Class – Event – Race – Car – Tyres - Any modifications to the car (including oil change).
E.g. Expert – Historic Race Car Cup – Cote D’Azur – Lamborghini Countach LP400 ’74 – Racing Medium – All modifications including oil change and wing

2.) Please only post events that are possible to win and which you have tested yourself (ie no stock cappuccino in the dream car event) but avoid those which are not overly challenging. Obviously some people will find some combinations easier than others but the aim is to give people an idea of more challenging combos

3.) This is not a bragging thread, please no ‘OMFG, I did the fiat 500 in the PD cup and won by 2 million light years, you must be really bad’
type posts. If you think a race is too easy, please try to be constructive in your feedback as to why it is and maybe suggest an alternative for people.

4.) No spam, GT vs Forza, pointless posts containing only a picture etc etc and please try to keep it on topic

Extreme - FGT Championship - Fuji Circuit - Formula Gran Turismo - Racing Soft - Oil Change

For some reason, I can only get up to 2nd and 1st place speeds away with a 5+ second gap.

Expert - Historic Race Car Cup - Deep Forest Raceway - '69 Camaro RM - Racing Soft - All Mods, Oil Change, RM

Expert - Historic Race Car Cup - Cote D'Azur - '69 Camaro RM - Racing Soft - All Mods, Oil Change, RM

Had to block 1 or more 2J's on both races, very intense.

Great idea for a thread, think it's going to difficult to 'balance' , except for a few known races like the historic ... most races can be easy/impossible depending upon your car choices - and then very dependent upon driver skill level too.

Anyway, my favourites so far are:
British lightweight, London - Caterham fireblade... tune to taste :)
Extreme, German dtm, nurberg gp... Audi A4, untuned

( one thought, perhaps what we should be looking for is where PD give us a close field of AI cars, then difficultly will really be what car you chose for the race... the issue I have, many times you are only fighting the top 2 AI cars max)

Exactly right. What I am looking for is choices of car that make the race very difficult without being impossible. You are right that driver skill plays a big part but if a race is generally tough for people, it may prove fairly tight even for the best drivers, especially seeing as they can do things like go for slightly less grippy tyres etc.

Interesting that the A4 can run in the DTM, what tyres did you do that with?

Extreme - Schwarzald B Race, 1 Lap Nurburgring.

Car: VW Golf MK1 '76, Fully Tuned, Racing Soft Tyres.

The trick on this race is to get a big enough lead to maintain 1st on the long race. :) Adjust your transmission appropriately.

I am wondering how the B spec Prize for the Historic races, ( light weight Alpha) would go in the A Spec races.

PD should impliment Scaling of XP points when using a lesser car.

I used an upgraded version of this on A spec and it one fairly comfortably, except for Le Sarthe which involved a lot of blocking on the straight  I might have a look into just how stock it can be and still be competitive

I just wanted to start a new thread about this and the search brought me here.

i would like to add:
Race:
Historic Race Car Cup - Deep Forest Raceway

Car:
Ferrari 330 race car, stock (given Racing Hard tires from the dealership), no aids.

Deepforest is half highspeed and half twisted road. You have to gain as much as you can on the twisted sector because you can't (shouldn't) do anything on the highspeed sector. The last corner helped a bit because most of the AI slowed down there..

Dream Car Championship (extreme)
Car : Mclaren F1 (stock) Racing Hard tyres.

This however is only going to be a challenge if the XJ-9 is present in the series. It is more than doable, I did this myself.

Racing Soft? Seriously. I don't think I've ever use anything but Racing Hard on RM, LMP and Super GT race cars and have no trouble winning (albeit sometime close enough to lose) and Sport Medium/Soft (although I prefer to stick to Comfort Soft or Sport Hard) on production cars.

I do approve the one on Schwarzwald Liga B. :) And the MKI GTi... Edit: Sorry, just read now: no pics.
